Dressed in black casual clothes, Su Mu slowly stepped out of the car, immediately drawing the attention of many students. After all, it wasn’t common in District Thirteen for someone to arrive at school in a luxury car.
“Damn, that’s the latest model of the Thunder X600. Whose car is that? So extravagant.”
“Who else could it be? It’s Su Mu from Class 2, Grade 3,” someone replied mockingly, with a clear tone of jealousy.
“Su Mu? You mean that sickly guy with narcolepsy? I heard he’s always on sick leave. Someone even saw him pass out in class. Why’s he suddenly showing up at school today?”
“Shh! Keep your voice down! Do you have a death wish? Someone saw him getting close with the Viper Gang. Rumor has it he’s the gang’s young master.”
At the mention of the Viper Gang, the whispering students immediately fell silent, afraid to speak or even look Su Mu in the eye.
Leaning on a snake-patterned cane, Su Mu stepped through the school gates. The handle of the cane was crafted from gold and inlaid with brilliant diamonds. At its center was a tiny embedded clock, and the face of the clock, unsurprisingly, featured a mysterious ouroboros.
He walked slowly with the cane, as if a king inspecting his domain. His handsome face, tall and slender frame, pale skin, and the mysterious gaze hidden behind tea-colored glasses made him seem enveloped in a strange, noble aura.
But only Su Mu knew the truth. He wasn’t using the cane for show. With his current physical condition, he’d need it for the rest of his life.
Just as he approached the teaching building, a petite girl with ear-length hair wearing a dark blue school uniform came jogging over. She stopped abruptly in front of Su Mu, a blush already creeping up her fair face, and tightly clutched a pink letter in her hands.
“Su… Su Mu.” The girl’s large eyes sparkled nervously like stars, not daring to look him directly in the eyes.
She seemed to be quite popular at school. The moment she appeared, many students around them shifted their attention toward her.
“Isn’t that Jiang Yue, the class beauty from Class 2, Grade 3? Is that a love letter she’s holding? Is she going to confess to Su Mu?”
“Why is there always a girl confessing to Su Mu? This world is so unfair!” a male student groaned.
“Well, if you got picked up in a luxury car every day and looked that good, girls would confess to you too.”
The whispers around her made Jiang Yue’s face flush even redder. If the weather were any hotter, she might have started steaming.
“Su… Su Mu, is your health any better now?” Jiang Yue finally gathered the courage to ask.
Su Mu smiled gently. His voice was warm and magnetic. “Much better. Thanks for your concern.”
At once, the girl’s face turned even redder. She didn’t dare lift her head and kept staring at the tips of her shoes.
“T-That’s good… I… I…” She twisted the pink envelope nervously, stammering without being able to say anything clearly.
Thankfully, Su Mu helped her out. He pointed to the letter. “Is that for me?”
Jiang Yue’s small body trembled slightly, and like a spring suddenly released, she lifted her head and summoned all her courage to glance at Su Mu. But the moment she saw the soft smile at the corner of his mouth, all her courage vanished like a receding tide, and she immediately lowered her head again.
Yet with that last bit of bravery, she managed to raise her hands and offer the letter to him.
“Su Mu… I… I like you!!” she finally blurted out, still refusing to look up.
But unlike before, this time, as she lowered her head, she didn’t just see the tips of her shoes—she also caught sight of the snake-patterned cane, slightly tilted. The golden clock face at the top glinted under the sunlight, and the ouroboros engraved within seemed to come alive, burrowing directly into her mind.
In an instant, the shyness on Jiang Yue’s face vanished. Her expression became blank.
Then, an emotionless voice, cold like a robot’s, whispered, “Chief, Yang Dongqing arrived at school ten minutes ago.”
After speaking, Jiang Yue blinked, dazed for a moment, then returned to her previous shy and nervous self.
The smile at Su Mu’s lips grew even gentler. A glint of light flickered behind his tea-colored glasses. “I see.”
Jiang Yue nervously raised her head. “You… know? Then Su Mu, do you—”
“Thank you for telling me, Jiang Yue,” he interrupted. “But as students, I think we should prioritize our studies. Don’t you agree?”
Jiang Yue trembled. Her eyes began to water, her lips quivered, and tears started to well up. She looked up again.
Only to see Su Mu’s glasses slide slightly down, revealing a pair of deep, unreadable eyes. Under that gaze, Jiang Yue’s tears stopped like magic, a confused look appeared in her eyes, and she subconsciously nodded. “I think you’re right.”
“Then what are you waiting for? Go study.”
“Okay.”
Just like that, Jiang Yue walked away as if nothing had happened.
Her best friends immediately rushed over, crowding around her and bombarding her with questions.
“Well? Did it work? Did it?”
“I knew it! Su Mu definitely fell for you. Who doesn’t know you’re the class beauty?”
Jiang Yue smiled brightly at them. “No. I failed.”
Their chatter stopped instantly. They looked at her with shock and disbelief.
“You’re joking, right? How can you still smile if you failed? You’ve had a crush on Su Mu for ages. You just couldn’t find the chance because he was always on sick leave. You finally got your moment today. If it really didn’t work, how are you smiling? Shouldn’t you be crying by now?”

Her friends were even more stunned.
“For real?!”

“Come on, don’t mess around. I’m fine. Even though I was rejected, Su Mu told me something… and I think he’s right.”
“What did he say?”
Jiang Yue tucked her short hair behind her ear and smiled. “He said, we should prioritize our studies.”

Su Mu entered the teaching building. Classes hadn’t started yet, so the hallways were still lively with students laughing and joking.
Some had their arms around each other, chatting about where to hang out after school. Others were showing off new photobooks they had bought. One boy was teasing a girl by pulling her hair, and the girl was chasing him down the hall in mock anger.
The girl’s cheeks were flushed with frustration, shouting threats as she chased him. But the playful glint in her eyes made it clear she wasn’t truly angry.
The boy ran ahead, grinning with satisfaction at his successful prank.
Soon, he ran right toward Su Mu. Seeing someone in the way, he instinctively dodged and slowed down, brushing past him.
“Chief, Yang Dongqing is in the restroom,” the boy muttered in a low, rapid voice, so fast it almost sounded like an illusion.
The girl followed close behind, full of youthful energy.
But that lively spirit froze the moment she passed by Su Mu.
Her expression turned blank and emotionless, like a puppet under control. “Chief, Cui Hao and the others are extorting Yang Dongqing in the restroom.”
Then, as if nothing had happened, the girl returned to her animated self. “Don’t run! If you dare skip class, I’ll stab you with my pen!”
Su Mu’s expression didn’t change. He continued walking gracefully, leaning on his cane like a refined noble.
But he didn’t go back to the classroom.
Instead—he went to the restroom.
