I Use Illusions To Control The Whole World Chapter 39
The traitor
“Retreat,” Su Mu’s calm voice rang out. “Retreat back to the room.”
Ye Fanyu was alarmed, “If we go back now, we’ll be attacked by villagers from both inside and outside. Wouldn’t that make us sitting ducks?”
Su Mu had neither the time nor the patience to explain. Just because Ye Fanyu didn’t follow his orders didn’t mean others wouldn’t. Yang Dongqing and the Viper Gang members immediately followed Su Mu’s command and retreated into the house.
Seeing this, Ye Fanyu’s face turned ugly. But there was no way he could face a group of villagers outside all by himself, so he had no choice but to follow and retreat inside. Just as he was about to shut the door, Su Mu stopped him.
“Don’t close the door. Lure them in, then head upstairs!”
Ye Fanyu was momentarily stunned, but he saw that Su Mu was already being escorted upstairs by the others. He finally understood Su Mu’s intention. The villagers could only enter from the main door and the first-floor bathroom window. If they were all drawn into the first floor, the group could escape by jumping out from the windows upstairs.
Ye Fanyu looked deeply at Su Mu’s back, then gave up on closing the door and quickly followed him upstairs.
Coming up with such an escape strategy wasn’t hard, but the truly impressive part was being able to calmly come up with it in such a short time under the pressure of being surrounded by hundreds of villagers. That was not something just anyone could do. Most people would panic in the face of danger and fail to make the right judgment in time.
Soon, the group reached the third floor, while the villagers who had flooded into the house could only climb the narrow staircase to follow. The staircase only allowed two people to pass side by side, which greatly reduced the threat. What made the villagers dangerous was their overwhelming numbers—if it were one-on-one, either Ye Fanyu or Yang Dongqing could defeat them. Now, with the terrain advantage, the threat was minimized.
Yang Dongqing didn’t hesitate. He stood alone at the stairwell, facing two villagers at a time. It wasn’t a serious threat to him—his steel-like Physical Body gave him strong survivability, making him the best person to stay behind.
One by one, the Viper Gang members jumped from the third-floor window onto the muddy ground outside the house. The infrastructure in Zhao Family Village was underdeveloped, and except for the main road, most areas were still mud. As long as one was in decent health, jumping from the third floor wouldn’t be a problem, let alone for the elite members of the Viper Gang.
If there was anyone in the group who might be in danger from jumping, it would probably be Su Mu and the only woman among them, Wang Li.
“I… I’m afraid of heights!” Wang Li, delicate and timid, squatted by the window, gripping the window frame tightly with both hands. One glance at the ground made her dizzy.
“Get the hell down!” Zhao Chaoyao, behind her, kicked her lightly on the waist.
“Ah!” she screamed sharply as she tumbled out the window and landed on the muddy ground.
“Chief, after you.” Zhao Chaoyao respectfully helped Su Mu to the window, then shouted to the Viper Gang members below, “Get ready to catch the Chief!”
“Yes!” The remaining eight members quickly formed a circle, took off their shirts, held hands tightly, and made a human net. They laid their shirts over their arms for added cushioning.
But Su Mu didn’t jump right away. Instead, he stood by the window, admiring the scenery.
“Hurry! I can’t hold them back much longer!” Yang Dongqing’s urgent shout finally prompted Su Mu to remove his tinted glasses. With his snakewood cane in hand, he lightly leaped from the window and landed steadily on the human net. Nearby, Wang Li, who had landed in a heap, could only stare in frustration, not daring to voice her anger.
Zhao Chaoyao and Ye Fanyu followed by jumping out of the window. Lastly came Yang Dongqing, covered in wounds.
As soon as he jumped, several muscular arms reached out from the window. A group of villagers crowded around it, roaring furiously.
“Hurry, this house won’t hold them off for long,” Ye Fanyu said, still shaken. He pointed to a nearby two-story building, “Let’s just hide in that house for now.”
“To the east side of the village.”
“What?” Ye Fanyu was stunned.
“I said, go to the east side of the village,” Su Mu repeated calmly.
“Mr. Su, why go all the way there? There’s a house right here we could use. Why go further?” Ye Fanyu was clearly confused.
Su Mu adjusted the arms of his glasses and slowly put on his tinted lenses, hiding his eyes. “Mr. Ye, your intelligence makes it hard for me to explain things to you. Just follow me.”
Ye Fanyu’s face darkened, his fists clenched. But given how calm and decisive Su Mu had been earlier, he chose to stay silent.
The group rushed toward the eastern part of the village, taking out a few scattered villagers along the way, and eventually reached their destination safely.
The eastern end of the village was remote and desolate. There was only a single, rundown shack with a thatched roof, so crude it couldn’t be more basic.
Standing before the shack, Ye Fanyu looked very displeased.
“Mr. Su, is this the place you chose? Putting aside whether we can even all fit in here, just look at the condition of this place—I’m not even sure it can…”
“Mr. Ye, I’m honestly surprised you’ve survived three Dream Worlds,” Su Mu interrupted flatly. He stood under a black umbrella, beside him was Zhao Chaoyao in a black suit, also holding an umbrella.
Since it was raining, it was only natural to use one.
Ye Fanyu’s expression turned even darker.
Su Mu continued at his own pace, “Remember what the village chief’s son said in the Time Silhouette? No? I figured you wouldn’t. He said that ever since you were locked up, that old mutt waited in front of your broken thatched house, not eating or drinking, and eventually died. ‘Where the hell am I going to get dog meat? I can give you a couple of dog bones at most!’ Does that ring a bell now?”
Ye Fanyu froze, “You’re saying… this rundown shack is Tingting’s home?!”
Su Mu nodded.
“You were stalling on the third floor earlier because you were searching for this place?”
Clap, clap, clap…
Su Mu smiled and clapped, “Mr. Ye, your comprehension is surprisingly sharp. I’m finally starting to believe you really did survive three Dream Worlds.”
“Heh…” Ye Fanyu gave a dry laugh.
“If I’m not mistaken, the key to clearing this nightmare lies in this thatched hut,” Su Mu pushed up his tinted glasses, then suddenly changed the subject, “But before that, we still need to find the one who secretly damaged the windows.”
At that, everyone’s expression turned serious. They looked at one another, and the only sound left was the light drizzle falling on their shoulders.
Ye Fanyu’s sharp gaze swept over the group and finally settled on the Viper Gang members, “Mr. Su, I think the traitor might be in your team.”
