Legend Management Bureau Chapter 66
A robbery[ … words ]
[ … words ]
“What?!” The group’s eyes instantly widened.
Even Zhong Kui, who was standing to the side, pricked up his ears. He seemed eager to join the conversation, but it felt like no one wanted to pay him any attention.
“Second Master, you should come over too,” Du Yu said with a helpless smile.
Hearing Du Yu’s invitation, Zhong Kui hurriedly strode forward and asked, “You say the Legends Administration has a mole. Do you have any proof?!”
Du Yu glanced at Zhong Kui and replied, “Second Master, I know you have a fiery temper, but you aren’t unreasonable. Think about it carefully. If a minor detail from thousands of years ago was altered, an ordinary person naturally couldn’t have pulled it off. Only someone from the Legends Administration could intervene. Furthermore, an interference of this level doesn’t even require an Operator like me; any Voice Transmitter could do it.”
Realizing how classified Du Yu’s words were, Horse Face hastily covered his mouth. He pointed at the Charm Ghost nearby and whispered, “Watch your words, brother! There’s an outsider present!”
Du Yu shook his head and pushed Horse Face’s hand away. “Don’t worry, Brother Horse. Sister Charm Ghost is one of us.”
Seeing Du Yu vouch for her, the group dropped the issue and began pondering his words.
“I understand…” Xie Bi’an said slowly. “Brother Du, you’re saying someone transmitted a voice to King Zhuanlun and King Biancheng, using the tone of the Great Emperor of Mount Tai.”
Dong Qianqiu looked at Du Yu in confusion. “Although we currently have over a dozen Voice Transmitters… I still feel like the success rate of such a trick would be very low…”
“That’s true. For this scheme to succeed, there are two prerequisites,” Du Yu explained. “First, they had to target people who value loyalty and righteousness above all else, ensuring they would keep the Eastern Emperor’s words in their hearts for thousands of years. Second, they needed a special Voice Transmitter who could perfectly imitate the Eastern Emperor’s voice. With these elements combined, the success rate of this plan skyrocketed.”
Du Yu turned back to Dong Qianqiu. “Sister Qianqiu, the Voice Transmitters all have different abilities, and you should be familiar with all of them, right?”
“Yes… I recruited most of them myself. I know exactly what they can do,” Dong Qianqiu replied.
“Then is there anyone whose ability is imitating the voices of others?” Du Yu pressed.
“That… I don’t recall anyone having that ability,” she said, shaking her head.
“That doesn’t matter.” Du Yu had anticipated this possibility. “There are many ways to alter one’s voice, so it’s fine even if it’s not an innate ability. As long as you Netherworld Envoys lend me a hand, I’m confident we can root this person out today.”
“Kid…” Hearing Du Yu’s analysis, Zhong Kui couldn’t help but look at him with newfound respect. “Your deduction is quite solid… But you mentioned needing our help. What exactly do you need us to do?”
Du Yu’s expression grew solemn. “Currently, only we know about this. We can’t afford to alert the enemy. The mole in the Legends Administration can only see the past, not the present. They won’t know the outcome of our discussion here. Therefore, I need you all to storm the Legends Administration and apprehend all the staff before the mole can make a move, so we can interrogate them one by one.”
“What?!”
Expressions of utter shock appeared simultaneously on the faces of the Eight Great Netherworld Envoys.
“Little Du…” Xie Bi’an smiled bitterly. “Do you know how absurd this plan of yours is? Since ancient times, not even the Heavenly Court has dared to disrespect the Legends Administration…”
“I’ve heard about that,” Du Yu replied with a faint smile. “But Seventh Master, think about it carefully. This person is sinister and cunning, specializing in tampering with memories. If, after today, you suddenly remembered that Eighth Master was your mortal enemy, would you believe that memory or not?”
“That…” Listening to Du Yu’s scenario, Xie Bi’an felt a chill run down his spine. If memories were truly altered, it was entirely possible for close companions to instantly turn on each other in a bloody slaughter.
“If we are going to act, we must be decisive.” Du Yu looked at the group seriously. “Do you immortals have any kind of magical artifact… something that can prevent people from transmitting voices?”
“Yes, yes, yes, I have one right here!” General Gold shouted.
“That’s right, that’s right!” General Silver echoed.
“I have a Spirit-Locking Formation. It can seal the spiritual energy of anyone inside, making it impossible for anything to leak out.”
“That’s right, that’s right!”
“That’s perfect,” Du Yu declared. “This way, nothing can go wrong…”
“Wait, hold on! I’ve got a question!” Ox Head hurriedly raised his hand, seeing that everyone was on the verge of accepting this crazy plan. “If we do this, we’re gonna offend a lot of people… Is there any way we can keep a low profile?”
“That’s too easy. They do it in the movies all the time…”
…
Inside the normally operating Legends Administration, dozens of employees were bustling about. When they first joined, they never imagined that one day this organization could function without a Director, without an Assistant, and without an Operator, leaving only a group of low-level staff working their fingers to the bone.
“Crash!”
With a loud noise, the doors of the Legends Administration were kicked wide open.
A group of masked bandits armed with magical artifacts charged in. The leader roared, “Everyone, put your hands up! Nobody move!!”
The employees also never imagined that they would one day experience a robbery inside the Legends Administration…
“Hey, hey, hey…” the man in white wearing a Calabash Brother mask glanced at the man in black beside him, whispering urgently. “Why did you pull out your Lifebound artifact, the Soul-Reaping Chains? Isn’t everyone going to figure out who you are immediately?”
The man in black, wearing a Monkey King mask, coldly snorted and whispered back, “I don’t have as many fancy tricks as you do.”
“How is that okay?! If you don’t have any, just ask Second Brother for some!” the man in white retorted in annoyance. “What’s the point of bringing out your Lifebound artifact?! Who in the entire Underworld doesn’t recognize those Soul-Reaping Chains?!”
“Don’t just nag me… take a look at the big idiot behind you.” The man in black pointed to the side. “His two ox horns are literally pointing to the sky. What’s the difference whether he wears a mask or not?”
“Huh? You talking about me?!” the large man wearing a Pleasant Goat mask—yet sporting two massive ox horns—became instantly unhappy. “So what if I have horns? The artifact I’m using isn’t mine!”
“Your artifact indeed isn’t yours, it’s mine. So don’t you dare break it,” said a fat man standing nearby, wearing the mask of a beautiful maiden, his thick beard completely poking out from underneath.
Du Yu looked at this crew and couldn’t help but sigh. Expecting them to successfully conceal their identities was simply asking too much.
“Brothers! The Spirit-Locking Formation is complete!”
Two figures clad in blindingly bright gold and silver armor bounded in from outside. The glare radiating off them was so intense that no one could even make out what character masks they were wearing. Du Yu hurried over, grabbing them both as he demanded, “Why didn’t you two even change your clothes?”
“Change clothes? No one else changed their clothes, so why should we?”
“That’s right, that’s right!”
“The problem is that your outfits are way too conspicuous!” Du Yu groaned.
“You can’t say that. Are gold and silver really that conspicuous? Seventh and Eighth’s black and white are pretty conspicuous too!”
“That’s right, that’s right!”
“Stop mentioning Seventh and Eighth!” Du Yu slapped his hands over their mouths. He glanced back at the completely dumbfounded staff members before turning back and whispering fiercely, “We cannot blow our cover right now!”
“This… this is simply too humiliating…” Even though Cui Jue was wearing a mask, he felt an overwhelming sense of shame. He nudged Du Yu and muttered, “Stop wasting time… Let’s just get started.”
Hearing this, Du Yu released Generals Gold and Silver. He cleared his throat, stood up straight, and bellowed, “Uhm… this place has been taken over by us! If you want to live, step away from your monitors! Everyone, against the wall!”
The staff members were utterly stupefied in that moment.
Was this seriously a robbery?
A short man slowly stepped forward and addressed the group, “Venerable… Venerable Immortals…”
Du Yu took a look and recognized the approaching man as Little Jin, whom he had met before.
“What is it?” Du Yu demanded.
“Did you Venerables perhaps come to the wrong place…? This is the Legends Administration… We don’t have anything of value here… Plus, our Operator isn’t even in… Even if you wanted to interfere with the legends, you wouldn’t be able to.”
“We came here precisely because we know this is the Legends Administration. Cut the crap and stand to the side.” Du Yu waved Little Jin away. As he looked up, he noticed Little Qi in the distance slowly backing away. She was actually using an invisibility technique. If this girl managed to hide, he feared no one would ever be able to find her again.
“Little…!” Du Yu was just about to shout her name when he caught himself, hastily correcting his words, “Little brat! What do you think you’re doing?!”
Hearing Du Yu’s shout, Fan Wujiu instantly flew over to Little Qi and interrupted her technique.
Caught red-handed, Little Qi shivered in terror.
“Everyone, do not be afraid. We have no intention of hurting anyone. We only ask for your cooperation. Stand to the side, and we guarantee that no one’s soul will scatter today,” Xie Bi’an reassured the crowd.
Hearing this person’s gentle, malice-free tone, the crowd had no choice but to slowly put down their work and shuffle over to the wall.
Du Yu had a few of the Envoys secure everyone, then turned to Horse Face. “Brother Horse, come with me.”
Du Yu led him to Dong Qianqiu’s office, pushed the door open, and stepped inside. “Although there are quite a few people, we’re pressed for time. In a moment, I’ll have Sister Charm Ghost bring the employees in here one by one. The rest is up to you.”
Horse Face nodded. “Rest assured, Brother Du. If we really manage to root out the true culprit this time, it will be a monumental achievement. I will definitely give it my all.”
Du Yu went back out for a quick stroll, then pulled Dong Qianqiu aside and asked in a low voice, “Sister Qianqiu, help me take a look. Have we secured every single employee of the Legends Administration? Is there anyone missing?”
Dong Qianqiu replied softly, “I’ve already done a head count. They are indeed all here. Not a single one is missing.”
“That’s excellent.” Du Yu nodded. “We are definitely dragging this person out into the light today.”
With a clear division of labor, the group quickly brought the scene under control. Cui Jue, Zhong Kui, and Ox Head were in charge of guarding the employees. Generals Gold and Silver maintained the Spirit-Locking Formation, while the Black and White Guards confiscated everyone’s phones.
The Charm Ghost glanced over the clustered employees with a wicked smile. Pointing at Little Qi, she said, “Little girl, you’re up first. Come with me to see Brother Horse.”
“Ah?!” Little Qi shuddered in sheer terror. If she were still a mortal, she would have likely wet herself on the spot.
