Legend Management Bureau Chapter 223
Premonition[ … words ]
[ … words ]
Du Yu smiled bitterly. Just as the Queen Mother of the West had said, whenever Lady Houtu used her Magical Power, she couldn’t resist the effects of the Meng Po Soup, and many less important things would slip from her memory.
Speaking of memories, Du Yu suddenly remembered something.
“Right, Sister Qianqiu, where is Qu Xi?”
Du Yu reached out to pat Dong Qianqiu’s shoulder, but his hand passed straight through it as if there were nothing there.
“Ah!”
He froze, hastily pulling his hand back.
“Hmm? What’s wrong?” Dong Qianqiu turned her head to look at him.
Du Yu carefully extended a finger to poke her again. He found that this time it didn’t pass through; instead, it landed solidly against her shoulder.
“Oh, n-nothing. I might have just imagined it.”
“Rest…” Du Yu sighed softly. “I promised Qu Xi that as soon as I got out of the Legend, I would help her with something. I’ll rest once all of this is truly finished.”
“Qu Xi is in her room,” Dong Qianqiu replied.
Du Yu nodded and took a few steps forward, but suddenly he felt that something was wrong.
His entire body became light and floaty, as if he were about to faint at any moment.
He reached out to support himself on a nearby chair, but his hand passed right through it, and he crashed heavily onto the floor.
“Du Yu!!”
Dong Qianqiu cried out in alarm, realizing he had already lost consciousness.
…
When Du Yu opened his eyes, he was startled to see numerous employees of the Legend Management Bureau surrounding him, staring down at him.
“Holy crap!” Du Yu yelled, rolling over and jumping out of bed. “What are you doing? Holding a wake for me?”
Dong Qianqiu looked at him with a face full of concern. “Are you okay, Du Yu?”
“Me? Of course I’m fine…”
Du Yu furrowed his brows slightly as an ominous feeling spread through his heart. The fact that he had fainted this time felt incredibly bizarre, as if something highly abnormal had happened.
Turning his head, he spotted Fan Xiaoguo holding a cup of milk tea, looking at him lazily.
“Eh?” Du Yu paused for a moment before breaking into a smile.
Fan Xiaoguo was back. It seemed everything was returning to normal.
The Seventh Lord and Eighth Lord should be sitting in the Impermanence Hall right now, casually chatting just like they used to.
“Why are you looking at me, Du Yu?” Fan Xiaoguo huffed in annoyance. “You promised I could drink milk tea every day. This doesn’t count as slacking off!”
“Haha, of course not,” Du Yu chuckled. “Is the Eighth Lord doing well?”
“Hmph, the ancestor is doing wonderfully.” Seeing Du Yu awake, Fan Xiaoguo relaxed a bit, though she pretended to be angry. “Since you’re awake, hurry up and get to work. The ancestor already found the person you asked us to look for earlier.”
“Find a person?” Du Yu frowned, asking in confusion. “What person?”
“Du Yu, are you asking for a beating?” Fan Xiaoguo stomped her foot. “Didn’t you ask us to help you find a Wrongful Death Great Pivot? We went through so much trouble, and you just forgot?”
“Ah! I didn’t forget! I didn’t! Did you find it?”
“Yeah!”
“Fantastic!” Du Yu reached out to grab his clothes, preparing to put them on and follow Fan Xiaoguo to take a look, but his hand passed right through the fabric.
“Eh?” Fan Xiaoguo, standing next to him, froze. “What’s wrong with you?”
Du Yu furrowed his brows slightly. “What do you mean, what’s wrong?”
“Your hand…” Fan Xiaoguo pointed at him, bewildered. “I just saw…”
“Oh, my eyes were playing tricks on me just now. I didn’t see clearly and grabbed empty air.”
“That’s not right!” Fan Xiaoguo exclaimed. “I swear I just saw your hand pass right through your clothes!”
Hearing her exclamation, the other people in the Legend Management Bureau gathered around.
“Passed through? How is that possible?” Du Yu gave a bitter smile. Taking a deep breath, he reached out to grab the clothes again.
This time, it didn’t pass through. His hand rested firmly on the fabric.
“See! How could it possibly pass through?” Du Yu laughed, picking up the clothes and putting them on.
“Whatever! I can’t be bothered to care! If you have time, go see that Great Pivot! I’m leaving!” Fan Xiaoguo curled her lip and walked off in a huff.
Seeing that Du Yu was awake, everyone naturally felt relieved. After exchanging a few pleasantries, they all returned to their posts.
Du Yu silently lowered his head and stared at his palm.
If his guess was correct, the worst possible outcome was about to arrive.
He didn’t have time to worry about anything else right now. He had to find Qu Xi immediately.
Arriving at Qu Xi’s room, Du Yu pushed the door open and walked right in, finding her reading a foreign book.
“Qu Xi!” Du Yu called out.
“Ah! Du Yu, you’re awake?” Qu Xi turned her head, looking at him with a smile.
“No time for small talk!” Du Yu immediately drew a Portal in the air before him. “Tell me everywhere you went that day. I’m going to change your past right now!”
“Eh?” Qu Xi paused. “Right now?”
“Yes!” Du Yu nodded. “Since I can’t be seen by my past self, you have to tell me where else you went besides the bus. Or just tell me where your house is, and I’ll go straight to your front door and kill Zhou Zhuangshi.”
“Why are you… in such a hurry?” Qu Xi asked.
“Don’t ask! In short, I’m racing against time right now!” Du Yu’s voice trembled slightly.
“I…” Qu Xi smiled and said slowly, “I’ve decided to keep this memory.”
“Hmm?” Du Yu acted as if he hadn’t heard clearly. “What did you say?”
“I don’t want to leave the Legend Management Bureau, and I don’t want to leave all of you,” Qu Xi explained. “You were right. My life in reality isn’t nearly as happy as it is here. I’ve decided to stay.”
“You’ve… decided to stay?” Du Yu asked.
“Yes. Didn’t you say that if you changed my past, I would disappear from here?” Qu Xi said with a smile. “If you were the only one who remembered me, you’d be very lonely, wouldn’t you?”
“I…”
Du Yu’s hands trembled slightly, unsure of how to answer.
“Actually, there are better ways to make me forget those painful memories.” Qu Xi offered Du Yu a seat, then spoke to him gently. “I can create many more happy memories here in the Legend Management Bureau, until that pain becomes too insignificant to mention.”
“Is that so…”
Du Yu finally broke into a smile, and the Portal subsequently closed.
“That’s wonderful… I’m so happy to see that you can let go of the past…”
As Du Yu kept smiling, a sorrowful expression soon crept onto his face.
“What’s wrong?” Qu Xi looked at him. “You say you’re happy, but your expression looks terribly sad.”
“No… I am very happy, but…” Du Yu raised his head to look at Qu Xi. “You don’t want me to be the only one in the world who remembers you, but what if… the situation was reversed?”
“The situation reversed?” Sensing that Du Yu had something weighing on his mind, Qu Xi closed her book and shifted her body to face him fully. “What do you mean? I don’t quite understand.”
“If one day, everyone forgot about me… would you feel lonely?” Du Yu asked.
“Haha!” Qu Xi burst out laughing, amused by his words. “What kind of nonsense is that? Why would everyone forget you? You’re standing right here alive and well, and there’s no reason for you to leave!”
Du Yu nodded silently. “Yes, I really don’t want to leave. But sometimes, things are out of our control.”
At that moment, the Green Brush resting on Qu Xi’s desk wobbled, and a girl sprang out with a soft swoosh.
It was Ying Ning.
“Du Yu, what are you blabbering about?” Ying Ning glared at him, puffing her cheeks. “I’m in the middle of learning foreign knowledge from Qu Xi. If you don’t have any real business, stop bothering us!”
Du Yu looked at Ying Ning and offered a gratified smile.
“That’s good, Ying Ning,” Du Yu nodded. “Qu Xi deciding to stay is probably largely thanks to you. You need to stay by her side and keep her company in the days to come.”
The two girls were slightly taken aback. They couldn’t help but feel that Du Yu was speaking very strangely today.
“What do you mean, in the days to come?” Ying Ning rolled her eyes at him. “Do I need you to tell me what to do?”
Du Yu ignored Ying Ning’s retort and instead asked Qu Xi, “Qu Xi, do you think… with your current abilities… you could defeat the Saint?”
“Me?” Qu Xi pondered carefully before answering, “Of course not… I’m probably not as smart as the Saint, nor am I as powerful.”
Du Yu nodded and then turned to Ying Ning. “Ying Ning, do you think you could defeat the Saint?”
Ying Ning let out a soft sigh. “I’d love to have a go at him, but I’m stuck inside this brush. I can’t go anywhere.”
Hearing this, Du Yu asked another question. “Then do you two think Zhan Qisheng could win against the Saint?”
The two of them exchanged a glance. Although they didn’t want to admit it, if they thought about it carefully, the Saint’s overall strength should be superior to Zhan Qisheng’s.
Even though neither of them spoke, Du Yu knew they already had their answer.
“Good.” Du Yu smiled and nodded. “I don’t mean anything else by asking this. I just want to say… none of you are a match for the Saint. No matter the situation, absolutely never risk challenging him, and never risk trying to break the traps he sets. His mind isn’t something ordinary people can see through. No matter how difficult things get, or how dire the situation becomes, you must never gamble with your own lives.”
“Why do I… not really understand…” Ying Ning said, glancing at Qu Xi. “Qu Xi, did you understand?”
“No…”
Du Yu stood up and opened the door. He cast a meaningful glance back at the two girls and said, “You will understand soon enough. Remember, none of you are a match for the Saint. So no matter what outrageous things he does, never risk your own lives. Please pass this exact message on to Zhan Qisheng for me.”
After saying his piece, Du Yu closed the door and quietly left.
He left behind only Qu Xi and Ying Ning, looking at each other in dismay, entirely speechless.
