Legend Management Bureau Chapter 293
A good father[ … words ]

Du Yu stared wide-eyed at Western Queen Mother. After a long moment, he slowly said, “Big Cat, after hearing you put it that way, I suddenly realized this matter is rather serious.”
“Serious?” Western Queen Mother turned to look at Du Yu. “Serious how?”
“If we can think of this method, Saint can too,” Du Yu said with a solemn expression. “This race might just turn into a bloodbath…”
Everyone understood what Du Yu meant. If he sent people to assassinate Saint, Saint could easily do the same to him.
“Big Cat, even though your method is extremely unconventional and made my heart skip a beat when I heard it, thinking it over carefully… it really is a permanent solution,” Du Yu said slowly.
“This…” Zhan Qisheng frowned, feeling that something was wrong, though he couldn’t put his finger on exactly what. He scratched his head and said, “Old Du, if you do this… won’t you become just like Saint?”
“Old Zhan, you are wrong,” Du Yu replied. “I have never initiated harm against anyone. Saint is the one who has repeatedly targeted me. This is simply our first counterattack.”
Seeing that everyone’s expressions were still somewhat awkward, Du Yu added, “Don’t think of him as me. You can treat him as a completely different person. He is just an enemy who happens to know us very well. Even if you kill him, I won’t disappear.”
The group nodded, still looking troubled.
“Why?” Western Queen Mother asked.
“Because if Saint sees the Seven Holy Heroes coming to assassinate him, he will reach a conclusion—that the Seven Holy Heroes by my side are diminished. He can then take advantage of the situation and send the same people to assassinate me. This way, neither of us would cause a situation where we meet ourselves in a legend. When that happens, things will get incredibly dangerous.”
“I understand,” Zhi Nv nodded. “So you want to keep the Seven Holy Heroes by your side, and dispatch other assassins…”
“Exactly,” Du Yu nodded. “Right now, I only have one advantage over Saint, and that is numbers. After all, in Saint’s timeline, he only has the Seven Holy Heroes, but we are different.”
Du Yu turned his head and said slowly, “For this assassination mission, I will have to trouble Old Zhan, Ying Ning, and Zhi Nv.”
“Ying Ning can’t go!” Zhan Qisheng immediately protested. “Zhi Nv and I will be enough!”
“Don’t be like that, Old Zhan,” Du Yu said. “I know you’re worried about Ying Ning’s safety, but don’t forget, the opponent is just me. She won’t be in any danger.”
“So what if it’s you?” Zhan Qisheng replied grumpily. “Even if it is you, you must have plenty of life-saving measures, right? I suffered a loss the very first time we crossed paths. Now that you’ve absorbed Xing Tian, your strength is on a completely different level.”
“You don’t understand,” Du Yu argued. “It’s impossible for Saint to summon Xing Tian to possess him at will… If he truly summons Xing Tian, you guys should just run away. After some time passes, you can go back and kill him.”
As the two were arguing, Western Queen Mother suddenly interrupted them.
“Wait, you brat. Did you just say… Zhi Nv?” Western Queen Mother looked at Du Yu in confusion and asked, “Why would you choose Zhi Nv?”
“Ah! Crap!” Du Yu instantly covered his mouth. He suddenly remembered that Zhi Nv had been keeping the fact that she was a Great Pivot a secret from Western Queen Mother. Yet, he had accidentally let such an important secret slip.
He looked at Zhi Nv apologetically, but she just offered a bitter smile and shook her head. “Goddess, I can indeed enter the legends.”
Hearing this, Western Queen Mother’s expression turned slightly sorrowful. She gently reached out to stroke Zhi Nv’s hair and murmured, “Silly girl, did you… become a Great Pivot after all?”
“Yes, Goddess,” Zhi Nv nodded, then quickly added, “But it doesn’t matter. I am still me; there are no changes whatsoever.”
Western Queen Mother clearly wanted to say more, but sensing it wasn’t the right time, she could only sigh and say, “Since Zhi Nv is a Great Pivot, I have nothing more to say. The three of you will go this time.”
“Queen Mother!” Zhan Qisheng stood up, speaking anxiously. “Zhi Nv and I are enough. There’s really no need for Ying Ning to go!”
“Out of the question,” Western Queen Mother shook her head. “I have seen that vengeful spirit before; her cultivation is incredibly high. Not only will she not encounter any danger, but she can also guarantee your safety. The matter is settled.”
Since Western Queen Mother had made the ruling, no one dared to defy her. Zhan Qisheng had no choice but to agree.
Everyone went their separate ways to make their final preparations before their descent, leaving Du Yu alone in the conference room.
His mind was a mess right now. He had encountered far too many incomprehensible things lately, and he was completely clueless about how to make sense of them all.
If possible, he really wanted to calm down and think things through carefully.
Saint, Time, Xie Yujiao—what exactly was the connection between them?
Who in the world was You Si? And what was her mission?
What exactly had he done to make Saint want to kill him so desperately?
He suddenly remembered the monk from Tianzhu, Wa Rang, had once said that if he insisted on becoming an Operator, everyone in the world would die because of him. Could it be related to this as well?
But the monk from Tianzhu had also mentioned He Suoyi. He had said that He Suoyi and he were cause and effect to each other. What did that mean?
Du Yu rubbed his forehead, utterly perplexed. It felt like all these questions were missing just one thread to tie them all together.
‘If I can meet Time again, I will ask him these questions,’ he thought to himself.
Du Yu stood up and slowly walked to the lobby. This was probably the first time he had been away from the Legend Management Bureau for so long. He hadn’t participated in any work for a full half-month, yet the place remained perfectly orderly. Many Voice Transmitters were actively using their voices to intervene in D-rank legends.
Du Yu then headed to the Legend Broadcasting Room, surprised to find it packed to the brim with people.
Qu Xi had grown skilled at her work in the Legend Broadcasting Room. At this moment, she was intervening in the legend of the Oil Seller Monopolizes the Courtesan. Du Yu stood to the side, watching with keen interest for a while. He noticed that in this version of the legend, the courtesan was a deeply insecure and cowardly girl. Qu Xi, currently acting as the courtesan’s personal maidservant, was busy teaching her the latest makeup techniques.
It was exactly like a massive beauty and makeup livestream, and it had drawn a huge audience.
Because Qu Xi was beautiful and possessed a gentle personality, many immortal beings and underworld messengers had flocked over out of admiration, quickly becoming her fans.
Word had it that the revenue for the Legend Broadcasting Room had been climbing steadily lately, and it was often so crowded that people had to line up just to get inside.
Du Yu figured it was about time to expand the broadcasting room—provided he actually made it back alive this time.
After observing the broadcasting room for a while, Du Yu made his way to where Dong Qianqiu worked. She was currently staring intently at the legend of Nuwa Repairs the Sky, carefully monitoring the issues surfacing within it.
“Sister Qianqiu…” Du Yu called out softly.
“Du Yu? Don’t you need to go get some rest?” Dong Qianqiu asked with genuine concern.
“No need,” Du Yu shook his head. “I just feel like it’s been a long time since we had a chat.”
“A chat?” Dong Qianqiu’s expression softened slightly. “What do you want to talk about?”
“I don’t know either,” Du Yu admitted. “I just feel frustrated and overwhelmed, so I wanted to find someone to talk to… maybe it’ll help me figure a few things out.”
“I see.” Dong Qianqiu nodded and turned her chair to face him. However, since she wasn’t much of a conversationalist, she couldn’t immediately think of a topic that would pique his interest. After a long, agonizing pause, she finally managed to force out a sentence, “Oh, right, Du Yu, do you know the root cause of the error in the two Super A-rank legends this time?”
“The root cause?” Du Yu thought for a moment before replying, “No clue.”
“It’s Goddess Houtu,” Dong Qianqiu explained. “When we intervened in the War God Xing Tian legend, we slightly altered Goddess Houtu. That was what led to all the subsequent events.”
“Oh?” Du Yu raised his eyebrows slightly. “Are you saying… we caused the error in the Super A-rank legends ourselves?”
“Yes.” Dong Qianqiu offered a small smile. “A tiny intervention ended up causing a Super A-rank error. Isn’t that fascinating?”
“Hah.” Du Yu chuckled softly. “Now that you mention it, it really is. No wonder you called me to say there was a legend error at the exact same time Goddess Houtu regained her memories. But what exactly did we do? How did we manage to make two legends crash at the same time?”
“The reason is actually quite simple…” Dong Qianqiu glanced at the documents in her hands and said, “Legends also have their hidden sides. After observing the legend of Water God Gonggong, we discovered that even though Gonggong is a tyrannical god whom everyone wishes dead, he is an undeniably good father.”
“A good father?” Du Yu was taken aback. “What do you mean?”
“Gonggong summoned the flood entirely for Houtu.” Dong Qianqiu flicked her finger, pulling up a virtual screen.
On the screen, a very young Houtu was holding Gonggong’s hand. In a sweet, childish voice, she asked, “Father, when is Mother coming back?”
Gonggong gazed at the distant flood, a profound sorrow brimming in his eyes.
“My little Tu, Mother is in the flood. Once the floodwaters recede, she will return.”
“Then when will the floodwaters recede?” Houtu asked.
“It will take a while longer. You just have to wait a bit,” Gonggong replied.
Dong Qianqiu pulled up another screen. In this footage, Houtu appeared to be around six or seven years old.
“Father, why hasn’t the flood receded yet?”
“Because this world is far too vast,” Gonggong told Houtu with utmost tenderness. “Give your mother a little more time. She will be back soon.”
“Father, did Mother forget about me?” Houtu asked, tears welling in her eyes. “I’m… I’m starting to forget what Mother looks like, too…”
“How could she?” Gonggong calmly reached out a hand, quietly increasing the intensity of the floodwaters. “Look, my little Tu. The flood is so fierce because your mother is trying her best to walk out of it.”
Watching this, Du Yu sighed repeatedly.
No wonder Gonggong caused the floods in China to constantly surge. No wonder he refused to stop, even when so many people tried to thwart him and crusade against him. If he stopped the floods, how could he possibly mend Houtu’s fragile, childish heart?
