Legend Management Bureau Chapter 295
Trading with time[ … words ]

Everyone lay on the Legend equipment and began their descent.
They all closed their eyes, feeling their consciousness slowly drifting away.
Everyone had experienced this sensation to some extent before, so there was nothing surprising about it now.
But Du Yu felt something was off. He had descended into Legends so many times, yet he had never felt anything like this. It was as if a powerful force had sucked him in, pulling him far, far away.
When he opened his eyes again, sure enough, he had not entered the Legend. Instead, he found himself in the Cave of “Time”.
“Perfect…” Du Yu bit his lip slightly. “Let me ask you a question first! This will make me much more confident in my ‘plan’!”
Du Yu walked forward with familiar ease and knocked on the door. It swung open.
“Time” sat there motionless, just like last time.
Seeing Du Yu enter, he briefly raised his eyes to glance at him before lowering his head again.
“Ask away.”
Du Yu was about to speak but found himself in a dilemma. His mind was full of doubts, yet he could only ask a single question now. ‘What exactly should I ask to create a direct breakthrough?’
“Why are you silent? What do you want to ask?” The hoarse, grating voice of “Time” slowly drifted out.
Du Yu pondered for a long while before finally asking, “What is the reason ‘Saint’ wants to kill me?”
“Time” lowered his head slightly and remained silent for a long time before saying, “Ask a different question.”
“Why?!” Du Yu asked, feeling puzzled. “Can you not answer this one?!”
“No, I simply do not want to answer it for personal reasons.” “Time” chuckled darkly. “After all, I am under no obligation to do exactly as you demand. If there are questions I don’t wish to answer, you cannot force me.”
“Oh? Is that so?” Du Yu raised an eyebrow, sitting right down on the spot. “If that’s how we’re talking, I’m not leaving.”
“Not leaving…?” “Time” looked at Du Yu in confusion. “What are you trying to do?”
“I’ll keep you company when you meet your guests,” Du Yu said with a nonchalant expression. “It seems there are certain guests you don’t want me to see, so I’ll just wait here for them to see what kind of medicine you’re selling from your Gourd.”
The last time he had visited this Cave, Du Yu clearly remembered a particular sentence “Time” had said—
Upon seeing “Saint”, “Time” had stated, “Thank goodness it isn’t her.”
In that case, there were people that “Time” feared as well. Or rather, he was afraid of letting Du Yu see this person.
“Time” fell visibly silent, keeping his head down without a word. After a moment, he spoke. “Are you threatening me?”
“Did I not make myself clear?” Du Yu looked at “Time” in feigned confusion. “This is absolutely a threat. A naked threat, completely undisguised.”
“Time” paused for a moment before speaking again. “If I tell you the answer, what do you plan to do?”
“Old man, I never agreed to answer your questions. What I do is my own business. You can’t even leave this Cave, so stop worrying about it.”
“How about we make a deal?” “Time” slowly offered. “You answer my question, and I’ll answer yours.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Du Yu glared at “Time” with exasperation. “Aren’t you ‘Time’? ‘Saint’ said you know everything in the world, yet you don’t even know what I’m going to do? To think you actually want to make a deal with a mere Mortal like me?”
“Due to some special circumstances… I cannot see the variables caused by you and ‘Saint’. Therefore, when it comes to matters concerning the two of you, I only know what has already happened. I am completely unable to predict what has not yet occurred. The reason ‘Saint’ wants to kill you is actual, recorded history. I saw it, and I remembered it.” “Time” flashed a cunning smile and asked, “So, do you want to make this deal with me?”
Du Yu thought about it for a moment and felt there was nothing wrong with the offer. Answering one question wouldn’t kill him, and besides, he didn’t necessarily have to tell the truth.
“In that case, I will answer you—I plan to kill ‘Saint’.”
“Time’s” body noticeably trembled. He suddenly recalled that a long time ago, “Saint” had stood in the exact spot Du Yu was standing in now, vowing solemnly, “I plan to kill Du Yu.”
“Truly?!” “Time” cried out in shock. “You are going to kill ‘Saint’?!”
The shift in “Time’s” emotions was clearly caught by Du Yu.
‘Why would “Time” get so agitated hearing that I want to kill “Saint”?’
Du Yu decided to play along and beat him at his own game, so he said, “That’s right. ‘Saint’ has always wanted to kill me. I can’t tolerate it anymore and plan to fight back. Is that so hard to understand?”
“No…” “Time’s” long hair obscured his face, and his entire body trembled faintly. “It is not hard to understand… This makes perfect sense!”
“Exactly.” Du Yu nodded and demanded, “Now tell me, what is the reason ‘Saint’ wants to kill me?”
“Time” paused for a beat before answering. “Du Yu, in the near future… you will engage in a massive battle against someone. This great battle will be the beginning and the end of everything. The old world will be completely destroyed in this conflict, and the new world will raise its curtains from the ashes.”
“A massive battle?!” Du Yu was stunned. “A battle with who? Where will it take place? How long from now?”
“Time” cast a cold glance at Du Yu. “Only one question at a time. Those are my rules.”
“You!” Du Yu’s eyes widened, unable to suppress his rising anger. “You might as well have said nothing at all! Isn’t this just a scam? You left out all the important information. Are you expecting me to come back and ask you again and again to fill in the blanks?”
“Indeed,” “Time” replied. “You will have to ask time and time again. Only then will you uncover the true face of the entire matter. But do not forget the deal we made. Before you return next time, I want you to bring me the head of ‘Saint’.”
“Seriously, what is wrong with you?” Du Yu found he simply couldn’t comprehend the eccentric entity in front of him. “You’re clearly terrified of me staying here, yet you want me to keep coming back to ask you questions over and over?”
“You have to understand me.” “Time” gave a hollow smile. “Although I already know everything, I must tread carefully. If I give you all the ‘answers’ too early, I will lose my value, and then no one will need me anymore.”
Du Yu scoffed coldly, his face full of contempt.
“Fine, I won’t ask any more questions. We can still just chat casually, right?”
“That depends on what you want to talk about.”
“When ‘Saint’ wanted to kill me, you also gave him advice and schemed with him, didn’t you?” Du Yu asked, hitting the nail on the head.
“Time” suddenly raised his head and stared at Du Yu. Only after a long silence did he finally say, “Yes. I told you, I am impartial. I have always treated the two of you equally.”
“So you don’t actually care whether ‘Saint’ or I die. Your goal is quite simple: you just want to ensure that ‘Du Yu’ no longer exists in this world.” Du Yu chuckled. “Am I guessing correctly? Whether it’s me or ‘Saint’, as long as one of us can kill the other, it benefits you.”
“Time” offered a faint smile. “I don’t understand.”
“No, you understand perfectly.” Du Yu locked his gaze firmly onto “Time’s” eyes—even though they were hidden behind a veil of long hair.
“Time” let out a dry laugh. “I am ‘Time’. I exist in eternity, and I know everything under the heavens. Why would I make things difficult for you?”
“I’m not stupid,” Du Yu stated flatly. “From what I can guess, both ‘Saint’ and I are useful to you, but we also pose a threat. That’s why you want to eliminate both of us at any cost.”
“Haha.” “Time” laughed even louder. “Going by what you’re saying, when you and ‘Saint’ met here last time, I could have completely chosen not to interfere. Then you both would have simply passed out. Wouldn’t that have suited my desires even more?”
“That’s exactly where the problem lies.” Du Yu matched his smile. “The reason you stopped us was because you knew that no matter how fiercely we fought, we would at most knock each other unconscious. We could never actually take each other’s lives. You were afraid of us staying here, and even more terrified that the person who has yet to show up would see the two of us, right?”
The smile on “Time’s” face slowly froze. “As expected of you… you even figured that out?”
Du Yu stepped toward “Time” pace by pace, asking slowly, “I was just asking myself earlier: if I were you and wanted to eliminate two enemies at the same time, when would be the best moment to strike?”
“Time” raised his head slightly, exuding an aura of rot and decay.
Du Yu smirked. “I would choose to strike during this Legend. After all, you know the exact movements of both of us simultaneously. With just a little tampering, the lightest outcome for us would be remaining trapped in the Legend forever, and the worst-case scenario would be ending up with our Soul Scattered And Spirit Dispersed.”
“Ha… Hahahaha!” “Time” burst into boisterous laughter. “I really shouldn’t have underestimated you. You are much smarter than I remember. Is it because you’ve been guarding against ‘Saint’ for so long that your mind has grown sharper?”
“Old man, I consider myself to have no grievances or grudges with you, yet you want my life just as much as ‘Saint’ does. Logically speaking, you are also my enemy.” Du Yu continued to step closer to “Time”, then went on, “You should know just how troublesome an ‘enemy’ like me can be. Don’t you want to be ‘comrades-in-arms’ with me? Must we really just use each other and fight until one of us drops dead?”
“Comrades-in-arms?” “Time” was visibly taken aback for a second before replying, “Du Yu, it is time for you to wake up. If you can survive this Legend, then we will be ‘comrades-in-arms’. If you unfortunately die, then there is no longer any need for us to continue this conversation.”
“What do you mean…?” Du Yu suddenly felt his whole body become somewhat light and floaty, as if he were about to leave this place in an instant.
“Time” said, “Rest assured, after this Legend concludes, all the answers will slowly surface. If you truly wish to know everything, then find a way to survive.”
Hearing “Time” say this, a faint smile crept back onto Du Yu’s face. Because, at the very least, he had figured one thing out.
And right at that moment, with a sharp ‘whoosh’, his figure vanished without a trace.
