Legend Management Bureau Chapter 311
A dust covered aura[ … words ]

Saint gripped his axe tightly, his eyes bursting with murderous intent as his hands gathered a terrifying power.
He knew the massive mountain before him was now their only breakthrough point.
Zhan Qisheng, Liu Ling, Shiranui Jinjiro, A Can, and A Kui surrounded Saint, blocking numerous attacks for him.
Seeing that Saint couldn’t be taken down quickly, the Dragon-Taming Arhat grew anxious. He continuously dispatched black-robed monks as reinforcements. If he weren’t currently entangled in a fierce battle with the Yan Emperor, he likely would have entered the fray himself long ago.
Zhan Qisheng panted heavily. His sleeves had been torn to shreds, revealing vigorous, muscular arms, and his original black garments were now stained with blood.
The blood was a mixture of bright crimson and pitch black.
It seemed both he and the opposing monks had sustained injuries; it was simply a matter of who could remain standing until the end.
Zhan Qisheng’s hand trembled slightly as he touched his chest. In the chaos of the melee, someone had slashed a shocking, grisly wound across his chest.
“Zhan Qisheng, don’t push yourself too hard,” Shiranui Jinjiro said, looking at him with concern. “Step back and regulate your breathing first!”
With that said, he prepared to launch himself forward again, but Liu Ling grabbed his wrist.
“What are you doing?” Zhan Qisheng asked, turning his head.
“Your condition is terrible, you can’t fight anymore,” Liu Ling said, swaying his body and breathing out the heavy scent of alcohol. “Saint finally managed to see you. Find a way to survive, and then go have a chat with him.”
“Saint… wants to chat with me?” Zhan Qisheng was somewhat bewildered.
“Yes,” Liu Ling nodded. “Over these past few decades that we’ve accompanied Saint, he’s brought you up countless times. He probably has a lot he wants to say to you.”
Zhan Qisheng had no idea that in Saint’s heart, Zhan Qisheng was the one person in the entire world who was most like him.
They were equally lonely, and both had experienced a moment where they believed they had everything, only to lose it all.
“He’s truly overthinking things,” Zhan Qisheng muttered with a frown. “I’m not risking my life like this for his sake, but so that I can bring Ying Ning back.”
Zhan Qisheng cast a glance at Ying Ning in the distance. She was fighting shoulder to shoulder with Zhi Nv, layers of ice crystals blooming across her body.
Seeing Ying Ning like this, a sudden wave of sorrow washed over Zhan Qisheng.
For some reason, he had the persistent feeling that he would never again hear Ying Ning personally say, “I forgive you.”
In the distance, Ying Ning repelled a monk, and her gaze just so happened to meet Zhan Qisheng’s.
Noticing that Zhan Qisheng was injured, Ying Ning’s expression instantly grew tense. She quickly turned to leave a few instructions with Zhi Nv, then soared through the air, landing right beside Zhan Qisheng.
“Little Zhan, what happened to you?!” Ying Ning cried, looking at him with a face full of worry.
Although Zhan Qisheng was covered in blood, his expression remained perfectly composed.
“Ying Ning…” Zhan Qisheng’s lips moved slightly, but the phrase “Have you forgiven me?” remained lodged in his throat, unable to be spoken.
“Don’t act tough when you’re hurt!” Ying Ning scolded. She reached out and formed an ice crystal, sending it flying toward Zhan Qisheng’s wound. The bleeding area rapidly froze over, and the bleeding stopped.
“Lady Ying Ning!” A Can called out. “Quickly, take Zhan Qisheng aside to rest. He nearly threw his life away just now.”
“I know that without you telling me!” Ying Ning scoffed in annoyance. She quickly supported Zhan Qisheng by the arm and led him toward a deserted area.
“I can’t…” Zhan Qisheng said, looking back at A Can and the others. “If I leave… they won’t be able to hold them off…”
“Leave everything to me,” Ying Ning said anxiously. “You still owe me a lot, and I’m waiting for you to pay me back slowly. Dying would be letting you off far too easily.”
Zhan Qisheng revealed a rare faint smile and replied, “I’ll pay you back.”
After helping Zhan Qisheng sit aside to meditate, Ying Ning scanned their surroundings with a stern expression. Although this place was some distance from the Battlefield, no one could guarantee that a monk wouldn’t launch a sudden sneak attack.
Upon realizing that no enemies had spotted them for the time being, Ying Ning breathed a sigh of relief. She then looked quietly at Zhan Qisheng, an involuntary ache welling up in her heart.
This man had always been like this, silently doing what he believed was right.
It was true five thousand years ago, and it was still true five thousand years later.
If Ying Ning hadn’t rushed over just now, Zhan Qisheng likely would have fought until his body perished and his soul dissipated.
“Why can’t you just open your mouth and ask me?” Ying Ning murmured to herself, a mournful look on her face. “Ask me what it is I truly desire most?”
Without Ying Ning’s assistance, Zhi Nv’s side gradually fell at a disadvantage once more.
The black-robed monks before them began to manifest their Arhat True Body one after another. Each of them manipulated a phantom Arhat, making their already considerable cultivation base even more formidable.
Zhi Nv’s flying shuttle danced continuously in the air, weaving various ropes and nets. While she had initially been able to trap most of the monks, she could now only stall them for a brief moment.
Just as Zhi Nv was unable to hold on any longer, Xie Yujiao descended from the sky again, unleashing a massive defensive Array Formation.
“Zhi Nv, watch out!”
Xie Yujiao shielded herself and Zhi Nv, cautiously watching the surrounding monks.
Seeing Xie Yujiao arrive to support her, Zhi Nv couldn’t help but sigh in relief. But a second later, she felt something was bizarre.
Because upon seeing Xie Yujiao, the numerous monks before them all ceased their offensive, standing perfectly still with their hands pressed together in prayer.
Zhi Nv knew that Xie Yujiao’s defensive Array Formation didn’t possess such immense power; it was something else entirely that was stopping the monks.
Something that Zhi Nv couldn’t fathom.
“Zhi Nv, are you alright?” Xie Yujiao asked urgently.
“I’m fine…” Zhi Nv slowly shook her head. “What about you?”
“I’m fine too…” Xie Yujiao said in confusion. “For some reason, these monks won’t attack me…”
“Won’t attack you?” Zhi Nv paused, taken aback. “What do you mean?”
“I don’t know either…” Xie Yujiao continued to watch the monks warily. “There might be some sort of treacherous plot. We can’t let our guard down!”
“A treacherous… plot?” Zhi Nv slowly narrowed her eyes. Her intuition told her that things weren’t that simple. These monks had a cultivation base far superior to Xie Yujiao’s. If they truly wanted to kill her, why bother resorting to plots and schemes?
The monks stood around them for a moment, simultaneously breaking into eerie smiles. They then bowed respectfully to Xie Yujiao before shifting the Battlefield, turning to attack the others instead.
This bizarre behavior was clearly seen by Zhi Nv. She knew with absolute certainty that the target of these monks’ bows wasn’t her, but Xie Yujiao standing right behind her.
‘But what’s going on here?’
Zhi Nv wanted to turn around and ask Xie Yujiao for a clear explanation, but she suddenly realized that Xie Yujiao had lowered her head, an eerie and oppressive aura now radiating from her body.
This aura felt as if it had been sealed in dust for a millennium, and now, it was erupting in its entirety.
