“The dignified Erlang Illustrious Sacred True Lord!” Maudgalyayana dodged Yang Jian’s attack once again, darting right in front of him to ask coldly, “Back in the day, you were the only man in all of Heaven capable of suppressing Sun Wukong, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven and King of Ten Thousand Demons. But look at you now. What a chaotic mess your state of mind has become!”
“Demonic monk! Cease your incessant nonsense! Slaying evil spirits like you is the inherent duty of us Immortal Beings!”
“Hahaha!” Finding a flaw in Yang Jian’s defense, Maudgalyayana struck him squarely in the chest with his palm.
Yang Jian let out a muffled groan and staggered back several steps.
“Yang Jian! If they truly considered you one of their own, why have they never set your mother free?! They are holding Fairy Yunhua hostage—what exactly are they so afraid of?” Maudgalyayana closed in on Yang Jian again, his voice echoing. “With your cultivation as an Almighty Cultivator, killing the Jade Emperor, who only possesses the cultivation of a Great Luo Golden Immortal, would be as easy as reaching into a bag. So what are you afraid of?”
“I… I…” Yang Jian’s body trembled slightly, unable to utter a single word.
“If they throw your state of mind into such disarray, how can you ever become a Heavenly Venerable?” Maudgalyayana slowly extended a hand toward Erlang Shen and offered, “Bring your Suffering and join the Ultimate Darkness. Let the whole world feel our Suffering.”
Yang Jian froze, his eyes becoming somewhat glazed over.
Yes, Maudgalyayana was right.
He slowly reached out his hand toward Maudgalyayana.
But right at that moment, a sharp beam of sword energy flashed past.
Maudgalyayana’s expression changed, and he hastily jerked his hand back, but he was still a step too slow to dodge completely. Half of his palm was sliced off.
Yang Jian immediately snapped out of his daze and stumbled back several steps.
A one-armed youth from Fusang stood off to the side, wielding a demonic blade. It was none other than Ibaraki Doji.
“All this endless rambling is far too noisy,” Ibaraki Doji said slowly. “Three-Eyed, let me ask you—can you still distinguish who the enemy is?”
“Ah, I…” Yang Jian was momentarily at a loss for words, unable to speak.
“If the enemy truly wanted to recruit you, would they do it in a situation like this?” Ibaraki Doji continued. “Three-Eyed, you should be asking yourself what they are so afraid of. Why do they not dare to face you in a direct confrontation, but instead try to persuade you to defect? I do not care where your mother is right now. If you have any problems, you can take them up with your boss, instead of betraying him right here.”
Erlang Shen thought for a brief moment, then let out a sigh. “Little demon, you are right. Although I do not have a boss, this matter truly cannot be handled like this. For now, let us just enjoy a good slaughter together.”
Ibaraki Doji snorted coldly and took his place beside Yang Jian. “Three-Eyed, if I hear you call me ‘little demon’ one more time, I will cut you down as well.”
Yang Jian gave a faint smile and replied, “No harm done. I am being called ‘Three-Eyed’ by you as well, am I not?”
The two of them, with their morale renewed, faced off against Maudgalyayana.
Maudgalyayana furrowed his brows slightly, glaring viciously at Ibaraki.
If not for this demon causing trouble, he could have won without a fight and plunged Erlang Shen into the Ultimate Darkness.
Pondering for a moment, he spoke again, “Ibaraki… is there Suffering in your heart?”
“There is.”
Ibaraki nodded and instantly blinked right next to Maudgalyayana. A long blade flew toward Maudgalyayana’s neck with terrifying speed. Maudgalyayana immediately dodged backward, but a bloody gash was still drawn across his throat.
Following the strike, Ibaraki shot a cold look at Maudgalyayana and declared, “I was born a freak, and I have endured every kind of torture since childhood. Right now, my heart is absolutely filled with Suffering, yet I simply refuse to be manipulated by you. What can you possibly do about it?”
Maudgalyayana gritted his teeth fiercely, knowing that a battle was completely unavoidable now.
…
The Black and White Impermanence stood back-to-back, having slaughtered dozens of monks surrounding them. By now, they were already feeling rather exhausted.
Not only were these monks incredibly tough physically, but they also possessed bizarre protective spells. When they focused entirely on defense, breaking through was exceedingly difficult.
The White Impermanence, Xie Bi’an, let out a bitter smile and asked, “How many are left?”
“According to the plan, there are one thousand nine hundred and forty-four left,” the Black Impermanence said coldly.
“That many?!” Xie Bi’an was stunned. “Weren’t we supposed to kill a thousand each? How do you still have over nineteen hundred left?”
“I counted yours as well.”
Xie Bi’an was instantly displeased upon hearing this. “Oh my god, Old Eight, there is seriously something wrong with your head! I killed plenty of people just now! Open your eyes and look closely!”
As the two of them bickered, they suddenly noticed a black-robed monk who, much like themselves, was currently doing his utmost to butcher the celestial generals brought by Nezha.
The monk carved out a path of blood and arrived right in front of the Black and White Impermanence. More than half his hair was gone, exposing his entire forehead, and his body was as withered and gaunt as a wooden carving.
“Ah!” The man opened his mouth in a grin, revealing his few remaining teeth. “The Black and White Impermanence, right?”
The Black Impermanence took a cold step forward, shielding the White Impermanence behind him. “Who are you?”
“A pleasure to meet you!” The gaunt monk continuously cupped his hands in greeting, his face covered in an obsequious smile. “I slaughtered dozens of celestial soldiers and generals along the way, and I have finally encountered some figures of real status. My Buddha truly treats me well.”
“Old Eight, something isn’t right about this guy.” The White Impermanence frowned, staring intently at the man before them as he whispered to the Black Impermanence. “Be careful.”
The Black Impermanence nodded. His Soul-Hooking Chain had already begun writhing around his body, and a terrifying, heaven-shaking murderous aura gradually radiated outward.
“Ah! Are we getting started already?” The monk stripped off his clothes, exposing a completely emaciated upper torso.
It was only then that the two of them noticed a thick layer of scars covering the man’s body. They wrapped around his lean frame like a suit of armor.
The scars completely blanketed every inch of his skin, making it look as though he had healed only to be injured again, and injured only to heal again.
Ultimately, it had grown into this grotesque appearance.
“This humble monk is lacking in talent. My dharma name is Mahakasyapa, and I am the First Ascetic Monk sitting under Mahakala.”
The Black Impermanence immediately grew interested in this individual. “Ascetic monk? Old Xie, leave this one to me. Go somewhere else.”
“Nonsense! You’re supposed to call me ‘Seventh Brother’, what is this ‘Old Xie’ garbage?” Despite his complaining, Xie Bi’an still looked at Fan Wujiu with a face full of concern. “Old Eight, if this guy is one of the Top Ten Disciples of the Buddha, he is definitely at the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm or higher. Both of us are merely True Immortals. Our chances of winning are slim enough as it is, yet you want to face him alone?”
Fan Wujiu chuckled coldly. “Old Xie, the moment this ascetic monk falls will be the moment I advance to become a Great Luo Golden Immortal.”
“Huh?!” Xie Bi’an was taken aback. “Old Eight, you have absolutely no martial virtue! Have you been secretly cultivating this whole time? Are you already just one step away from being a Great Luo Golden Immortal?”
The Black Impermanence curled his lip. “What is so strange about that? I simply used all the time you spent on your beauty routines to meditate instead.”
“You…” Xie Bi’an was so furious he was left speechless. “Ugh, whatever! Fight him if you want. I need to hurry up and find some opponents of my own, otherwise I am really going to be left in the dust by your cultivation.”
