Legend Management Bureau Chapter 405
Ancestral blessing[ … words ]
[ … words ]
The light gradually dimmed, and the transparent stone wall reverted back to ordinary stone, leaving behind only that line of incomprehensible text.
“Human nature…” Du Yu muttered to himself. “I have claimed to ‘save all living beings’ many times in the Legends. Is this the kind of person I am saving?”
His face looked somewhat strange, making it impossible to read his expression.
It took the old man a long time to recover his senses before asking Du Yu, “Young man, what exactly do you do?”
“Uncle… I…” Du Yu shook his head helplessly. “To be honest, I do not even know what I do anymore… It feels as if many things have lost their meaning…”
The old man stared at Du Yu’s expression, standing stunned for a long while before quickly reaching out a rough hand and slapping Du Yu across the face.
“Smack!”
The slap was not heavy, but it startled Du Yu.
The old man said with a worried face, “Young man, are you awake?”
“Yes! You were bewitched just now! Your eyes were glazed over, and you were talking to yourself. You were definitely bewitched!” The old man pointed at the text on the wall and declared, “Do not fall for the trick of this Great Immortal! How could you be bewitched just from seeing a little illusion? I encountered so many Great Immortals in the mountains just now and was not scared at all. Your constitution is just too weak!”
As if realizing something, Du Yu slowly nodded.
“Uncle… what you said seems to make sense…” He looked up at the text on the wall again, a trace of hesitation in his tone. “He wants to shake my resolve and hopes I will give up moving forward. Since that is the case, I absolutely cannot let him have his way…”
“Hey! Exactly, exactly!” the old man said happily. “We came here together, so we have to go back together.”
“Mhm.” Du Yu gave a bitter smile and nodded.
But the very next moment, he felt as if he had heard that phrase somewhere before.
At that time, the text on the stone wall flickered slightly and changed again.
The words for ‘human nature’ gradually twisted, and their strokes and radicals began to shift and recombine in midair, quickly forming two new words and changing the meaning of the sentence.
“Du Yu, do you understand yourself?”
“Myself…?” Du Yu became even more puzzled. “Time, what exactly are you trying to say?”
Then, a massive amount of text appeared on the walls, instantly covering the entire tunnel.
However, unlike the last time, not a single sentence repeated itself this time, and they were all questions.
“Du Yu, are you really an orphan?”
“Du Yu, do you remember the name of the orphanage that took you in?”
“Du Yu, what about your friends in the mortal realm?”
“Du Yu, when was the first time you met the Immortal Beings?”
“Du Yu, why did you die?”
“Du Yu, do you think everything is logical?”
Staring at the overwhelming barrage of inexplicable questions, Du Yu’s mind was in turmoil. But remembering the old man’s words, he quickly calmed himself and roared, “Time! If you have the guts, come out and face me! What is the point of sneaking around like this?!”
The distant Stone Door trembled slightly after Du Yu shouted those words.
Du Yu turned his head to look and noticed that the position of the Stone Door seemed to have shifted slightly. Gathering his courage, he walked forward, and the old man followed closely behind.
This time, the Stone Door did not move further away from them. Instead, with every step they took, it slowly drew closer and closer.
The scene here was exactly the same as in Du Yu’s memory.
An ancient Stone Door, covered in creeping vines.
At the base of the Stone Door was a circular mark, half inside the door and half outside.
Du Yu reached out and gently knocked on the door.
The Stone Door opened in response.
But to Du Yu’s surprise, the other side of the door was not Time sitting on a stone chair.
Instead, it was a very cozy-looking room. It looked like an apartment from around the 1990s, with a poster of F4 on the wall and an old-fashioned television sitting in the living room.
On the dining table, which was covered with a plastic tablecloth, sat a few brightly colored fruits.
As the two of them slowly stepped into the room, their path of retreat vanished behind them with a “Whoosh!”
“Huh?!” The old man was stunned. “What is this, are we not allowed to go back?”
Du Yu slowly walked further into the room. He knew he had never been here before, yet for some unknown reason, it felt incredibly familiar to him.
After a few steps, Du Yu’s gaze was drawn to an object.
On top of a chest of drawers rested a glass pane, and tucked underneath it were several somewhat blurry photographs.
The people in the photos were likely the owners of this home.
The photo placed right in the center was a family portrait of three.
It showed a married couple and a boy who looked about a year old.
Seeing this photograph, Du Yu plunged into complete bewilderment. A massive sense of dissonance erupted in his heart.
The man in the photo actually looked somewhat like him. He wore a bright, hearty smile while holding his wife close.
The wife’s face looked incredibly familiar, as if she were an acquaintance of Du Yu’s. She had a clean, sweet appearance and was holding a little boy in her arms.
The little boy seemed very mischievous, constantly reaching out to tug at their clothes.
Even so, the couple’s faces still brimmed with happy smiles.
“This woman… I think I have seen her somewhere…” Du Yu murmured to himself. “Her features look exactly like a friend of mine.”
“What did you say?! Is this your friend’s house?” the old man asked from the side.
“No… that is absolutely impossible…” Du Yu knew he had never descended to the 1990s, nor could he have made friends here. But who on earth did the wife look like?
Right at that moment, the two of them heard the sound of a key sliding into the lock from outside the room. Clearly, someone was about to enter.
“Oh no!” Du Yu grabbed the old man beside him. “Quick, hide!”
The two looked around nervously, but where was there a place to hide?
After a brief moment of thought, they could only run toward the bedroom.
But they had not taken many steps before their legs gave out, and both of them had to lean against the wall for support.
“What is going on…” the old man said in confusion. “Why am I so dizzy…”
Du Yu was also terribly dizzy. With no time to overthink, he gritted his teeth, entered the bedroom, and turned back to pull the old man inside.
They pushed the door almost shut, leaving only a tiny crack.
The next second, the front door opened, and four people walked in.
The leading man held a child in his arms, flashing a bright, hearty smile. Following closely behind him was a young woman.
These three people were evidently the family of three from the photograph.
But the fourth person to enter truly gave Du Yu and the old man a fright.
Because he was none other than Old Man Du himself, aged by more than twenty years. He was now white-haired, but he still looked vigorous.
“Dad, didn’t I tell you already?” The man placed the toddler on the sofa. “We are going to think over the baby’s name a bit more, so stop worrying about it.”
“That won’t do!” Old Man Du pulled a slip of paper from his pocket, upon which was drawn a character that looked like two little wings. “I am telling you, naming my grandson this is definitely the right choice! This is our ancestors blessing us, bestowing this character upon our Du family.”
