Du Yu gently waved his hand. The entire space abruptly shattered, and he returned to the vast starry galaxy.
In the days that followed, there was nothing left to do but wait.
He was waiting for the outcome of two gambles.
The first gamble was waiting for that chosen person to arrange everything, and then return to willingly become “Time.”
The second gamble was waiting for a dark storm cloud.
He did not know which of these two events would arrive first.
As long as either one happened, Du Yu would be the greatest winner in the world.
But if he lost either one, he would become the greatest loser.
Yet what Du Yu absolutely never expected was that both things would arrive at the exact same time, bringing him the exact outcome he had anticipated.
Sensing that something was wrong, the “Terminator” could only retreat continuously, backing away from the burning man before him.
“Hahahahahaha!” The moment he saw those dark clouds, Du Yu burst into uproarious laughter. “Is it finally here?! Am I finally no longer considered human?!”
The flames engulfing his body grew even more intense, having already invaded his internal organs at this point.
At some unknown point, he had stopped being a “human” and was instead recognized as a flame Nature Spirit.
Before Du Yu’s joyful expression could fade, a bolt of lightning as thick as a pillar of heaven violently slammed into his chest.
His entire body was sent flying, crashing heavily against the stone wall.
The “Terminator” looked over and saw a massive, gaping hole in Du Yu’s chest. His arms and head looked as though they were about to fall off, hanging limply from his body.
The power of this single lightning bolt was enough to obliterate any living creature.
“Cough, cough…” Du Yu coughed twice, revealing a bitter smile. “Such… such powerful heavenly punishment… Is this my retribution…?”
Suddenly, his flesh and blood rapidly regenerated, and the flames reignited.
He knew he would not die. Even if this lightning blasted him into fine powder, he would not perish.
The next bolt of lightning struck with blinding speed, hurtling straight toward Du Yu’s head.
In a brilliant flash of light, Du Yu’s head was completely shattered.
The “Terminator” widened his eyes in horror at the sight.
He watched as the flames on Du Yu’s body actually began to gradually extinguish.
But a second later, the fire flared up again. Du Yu’s neck stretched upward, and a brand-new head grew out to replace the old one.
“Hahahahaha!” Du Yu lay on the ground, laughing maniacally like a madman. “I can’t die!! What can you do to me?! Hahahahaha!!”
It was a completely deranged smile, yet also the smile of someone who had won a grand gamble.
Seven hundred thousand years of excruciating agony were finally about to leave him.
A full nine bolts of lightning, brimming with apocalyptic momentum, crashed down in continuous succession.
Aside from protecting the “Translation Talisman” in his abdomen, Du Yu simply allowed the heavenly lightning to blow him to pieces.
Compared to eternal, unending incineration, this heavenly lightning felt like nothing more than a mosquito bite—not only painless, but almost ticklish.
Once all the heavenly lightning had finished descending, Du Yu slowly stood back up, though his entire body was still wreathed in roaring flames.
The “Terminator” slowly stepped forward and asked, “Wasn’t that a ‘Shapeshifting Heavenly Tribulation’? Why are you still a ball of fire?”
Du Yu smiled faintly and said, “Because I cannot sit back down in this chair. This chair needs to be left for someone else.”
The “Terminator” sighed softly upon hearing this. “Did you choose me because, out of all the past generations of Du Yu, I am the one who loves A’xiang the most?”
“Yes.” Du Yu nodded. “I knew you would willingly become Time for A’xiang’s sake. You are not only the one who loves A’xiang the most among all the past iterations of Du Yu, but also the smartest. You know how to seek advantages and avoid harm, and you possess enough endurance to bide your time.”
The “Terminator” pondered for a moment before asking, “Can you tell me what exactly you plan to do?”
Du Yu didn’t say a word. Instead, he closed his eyes and pulled this most suitable candidate directly into his own inner world.
Here lay a vast, boundless galaxy.
With a gentle flick of his finger, he plucked out a fragment of space and time.
This was Du Yu’s former timeline.
Du Yu had spent a very long time rewinding this timeline back to the era before the great war.
In the projected image, “Mahakala,” the Ten Great Disciples, the Eighteen Arhats, and He Suoyi were all present. The only one missing from the scene was Du Yu himself.
It seemed the “reinforcements” would arrive at any moment.
“For every ‘Time,’ the early days are spent repairing their own timeline, while the subsequent days are dedicated to selecting a new ‘Time’.”
“And after the selection?” the “Terminator” asked.
“After the selection, the original ‘Time’ is liberated. They return to the specific day they chose and resume their lives, never wanting to come back here ever again.”
“Then how are you any different from them?” the “Terminator” pressed. “Right now, it looks like you are also going to return to your timeline, step right into that picture, and continue your life. Everything you’re doing seems exactly the same as all the past generations of ‘Time’.”
“I will come back,” Du Yu declared. “Even though you’ve become ‘Time,’ once I finish what I need to do, I will return to save you.”
“Save me…?” The “Terminator” paused, bewildered. “You and I are the exact same person. What makes you think you can save me?”
“Because all the other iterations of ‘Time’ are not as powerful as I am.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Du Yu waved his hand gently. An immense inferno erupted around his body, casting a radiant, fiery red glow across every fragment in the vast starry sky.
“I possess something the other iterations of ‘Time’ do not. Even if they returned to their timelines, it would be absolutely impossible for them to defeat ‘Mahakala’. At best, they would negotiate a truce with the various factions and live out their days just making do.”
“You have a way to defeat ‘Mahakala’?” the “Terminator” asked, skeptical yet intrigued.
“You could say that. Not only do I have a way to defeat ‘Mahakala,’ I have a way to eradicate him completely.”
“Eradicate…?” The corners of the “Terminator’s” lips curled up slightly. “If I’m not mistaken, to eradicate ‘Mahakala,’ you must first eradicate ‘You Si’. Are you playing me? If you want to eradicate ‘You Si,’ then you have to eliminate me!”
“So… you don’t want to become ‘Time’ anymore?”
“You…!” The “Terminator” was no ordinary man. He instantly deduced the entire sequence of events. He stepped forward, intending to argue the point, only to find himself tripping over the long hair at his feet.
Du Yu shook his head helplessly. “There’s no point in denying it. Your subconscious mind couldn’t bear to see A’xiang get hurt, so you willingly became ‘Time’.”
The “Terminator” stood stunned for a long time. He looked down at his long hair dragging on the ground and let out a defeated sigh. “Actually, I anticipated this outcome… But it doesn’t matter whether you lied to me or not. After all, I have become ‘Time’ much earlier than any of the others. I have plenty of time to accomplish far more. You thought you chose me, but in reality, I made you choose me…”
“Oh?” Du Yu chuckled. “You are very much like me, but not entirely the same. It looks like you’ve outsmarted me, but unfortunately… I’m a madman too.”
“Heh.” The “Terminator” sneered. “Regardless of whether you’re easy to deal with or not, this is no longer your territory. You can leave now.”
But no matter what spells the “Terminator” cast, he simply could not dispel the Du Yu standing before him.
“You… how are you…” The “Terminator” was thoroughly baffled. “Why are you still here?”
“Did I not tell you?” Du Yu smiled brightly, suppressing his excitement as he spoke. “I wanted you to become the new ‘Time,’ but I have absolutely no intention of giving up the title either. Just like you, I am still willing to serve as ‘Time.’ From this day forward, the two of us are both ‘Time’.”
