He had already accumulated a considerable amount of frustration due to the retreat, and seeing a monster behaving so arrogantly now, how could he possibly restrain himself.
The fierce tiger beneath him roared loudly, its gaping mouth lunging at the monster.
Seeing this, the monster revealed a hint of a cold smile and surprisingly did not dodge, as if it had some trick up its sleeve.
Just as the tiger’s jaw was about to clamp down on him, a ghastly head grew out from behind the monster and bit into the tiger, causing blood to splatter everywhere instantly.
The tiger cried out in pain.
Tiger Tamer, Arhat sat atop the tiger, his heart aching as he watched it now mangled and bleeding, his anger growing as he swung his Golden Wheel at the monster’s head.
“Well met,” the demon laughed wildly, clashing his Crescent Shovel with him in a fierce battle.
No sooner had they crossed weapons than Tiger Tamer realized the newcomer’s ill intentions; the monster’s weapon was unique, and its martial skills were extraordinary, with demonic power seemingly boundless.
In less than thirty exchanges, he was gasping for breath, his frustration intensifying. Had it not been for his injuries from previous consecutive battles, he would not have been so disheveled.
The monster seized this opportunity to continually assault him, the Crescent Shovel in his hand moving divinely, fierce like a ferocious flood dragon.
Seeing this critical situation, the protectors around no longer stood by and joined the battle one after another in assistance.
However, upon seeing this, the monster showed no fear on his face; instead, he burst into laughter, saying, “You dare to face me?”
As he spoke, eight heads grew out from his back, ugly and fierce, biting in all directions, and anyone caught by his bite fell to the ground in unbearable pain.
Inside the huge mouth, sharp fangs gleamed with a green light, clearly venomous.
Tiger Tamer, Arhat glared furiously as the monster, smug, declared, “None of you will leave here alive today.”
“Delusional talk!” Tiger Tamer bellowed, transforming into Buddha, enveloped in Buddha’s Light and huge as a mountain, he threw a punch that stirred up wind and waves, churning the pond water into towering waves.
The Crystal Palace swayed continuously in Bibo Pond, the Old Dragon King hastily braced himself against a nearby table, complaining, “I told him not to go out and cause trouble, but he wouldn’t listen and insisted on clashing with the Buddhist Sect.”
In his words, frustration was evident, because by his nature, unless the Buddhist Sect directly attacked him, he was reluctant to provoke further conflict.
But now, his words had little effect in the Dragon Palace; after all, monsters revered the strong, and with the Nine-headed Insect being powerful and frequently leading troops, he quickly won everyone’s support.
Unknowingly, the great power of the Dragon Palace had fallen into his hands, leaving the Old Dragon King feeling helpless in decision-making and unable to influence the Nine-headed Insect’s intentions.
“Father, rest assured, my husband is a hero of this age, the Buddhist Sect is but a defeated foe, how could they possibly be his match?” Dragon Maiden said with eyes shining brilliantly.
Although Nine-headed Insect was not pleasant-looking, his extraordinary strength made him a prime choice in this era of survival of the fittest.
“Alas, you are naive! What do you know? The Buddhist Sect is not so easily dealt with. You are confused today, and doom will surely follow soon,” the Old Dragon King lamented.
“Why should Father scare me? I heard that even Maitreya Buddha took action this time and yet returned from Zhilei Mountain empty-handed. What is there to fear about such beings?” Dragon Maiden said with disdain.
She seldom ventured out of Bibo Pond and was naturally unaware of the true strength of the Buddhist Sect, assuming it was merely an empty reputation.
The Old Dragon King sighed sorrowfully, realizing that everything had slipped beyond his control.
Outside, the Nine-headed Insect was sent flying with a punch by Tiger Tamer, Arhat, only halting mid-air. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and revealed a ferocious smile, saying, “Now, that’s more like it.”
The pain seemed to make him even more vicious, and his terrifying eyes sparkled with excitement as he stared intently at the mountain-like figure of the Tiger Tamer, Arhat.
With a loud shout, the Nine-headed Insect moved like lightning, instantly appearing in front of Tiger Tamer with his weapon striking down like rain.
Huge noises echoed across the sky, the colossal waves and dust obscuring the vision of the crowd.
From that day forth, the news of a mystical monster ambushing the Buddhist Sect spread rapidly; everyone speculated about the audacious monster’s origins, daring to injure an Arhat of the Buddhist Sect.
The Buddhist Sect also pondered their karma but found the heavens clouded in chaos; this monster seemed to have an extraordinary origin, and even the Buddha, adept at divination, could not discern his trail.
At the bottom of Bibo Pond, the Nine-headed Insect, sipping fine wine, said to his father-in-law with a grin, “I’ve never been afraid of their celestial techniques.”
Watching the smug Nine-headed Insect, the Old Dragon King of Ten Thousand Saints fell silent for a long while before he finally spoke, “Who exactly are you?”
He felt he could not fully comprehend his son-in-law, having thought him to be merely a powerful yet nomadic wild demon, taken in only to guard and protect his domain.
But now, he felt he had been blind, mistakenly taking a ferocious tiger for a mere stray cat.
The skill to obscure heavenly secrets was exceptionally rare, and to have a method that even the Buddhist Sect could not track was even more remarkable; how could a wild demon possess such means?
“Who does father-in-law think his son-in-law is?” the Nine-headed Insect did not answer, but instead asked with a smile.
The Old Dragon King of Ten Thousand Saints fell silent. He lowered his aged eyes which briefly flickered with a sharp, cold light.
“What exactly do you want by being here?” he asked.
The Nine-headed Insect held his wine cup, slowly sipped from it, stretched and then chuckled, “Nothing much, merely driven by curiosity to see this place, and unexpectedly, I ended up becoming your son-in-law.”
The expression of the Old Dragon King of Ten Thousand Saints gradually softened. He sat down in a chair, took a drink of wine, and then slowly said, “Can you talk about your origins?”
“My origins… It’s better that father-in-law doesn’t know too much. However, since we are family, I will share a little,” he said.
“I’m all ears.”
“Luzhou in the North, Demon Court.”
At those words, as if struck by lightning, the Old Dragon King of Ten Thousand Saints suddenly stood up from his chair. Shaking slightly, he pointed at the Nine-headed Insect and stuttered, “You, you—”
“Haha, why should you react like this, father-in-law? Has the term become taboo?” the Nine-headed Insect chuckled, playing with his glass wine cup.
“Hold your tongue. I have never heard of any Demon Court, and you better not mention it again, or it could mean the lives of my entire family,” the Old Dragon King of Ten Thousand Saints said sternly.
“Rest assured, I am well aware, for we are merely a band of failures after all. Don’t worry, you are not our target. Besides, we are family now, and I wouldn’t betray you,” he reassured.
“You may leave now. I need some time to be alone,” the Old Dragon King of Ten Thousand Saints said tiredly.
