“I think it’s going to be dinner with the King. Wouldn’t that be romantic?” Sierra commented as she gently tapped Myra’s hand.

The princess blushed instantly, averting her gaze as an undeniable smile appeared on her face. Myra was worried, what if she said something wrong? What if she makes a fool of herself. As her thoughts spiraled out of control, Myra could feel her heart pounding in her chest. Sweat droplets trickled down the side of her forehead.

Her footsteps became unbalanced. Sierra, who was holding her hand at the time, noticed the change instantly.

“Myra, Myra! Are you alright?” She asked, her voice filled with concern.

She could feel her pulse through her wrist, she knew something was wrong. Princess Cassandra happened to be nearby. She could not help but roll her eyes.

“Hmph. If you do want to faint, Princess Myra, I suggest you do so now. That way, another more… how should I put this? A more adequate princess can take your place for this evening’s events.”

Sierra’s eyebrow twitched as rage flooded through her body. She wanted to put Cassandra in her place then and there. However, that was secondary. At that moment, Myra’s condition was her top priority. Not saying a word, she helped Myra return to her room in Celestial Lodge and sat her down on the sofa.

She did not dignify Cassandra’s comments with so much as a reply. It was simply not worth the trouble. Ida and Myra’s maid ran to get them some iced towels, hoping to reduce the heat she had on her skin.

Sierra sat with her to make sure she was alright.

“I… I don’t think I can do this, Sierra,” Myra said between short breaths. Her heart was pounding in her ears and she could barely think straight.

Sierra gently touched her forehead as she reassured her friend, “You’re overthinking this. You’ll be fine. Everything will be alright.”

“But what if I say something I should not have? What if I accidentally spill the wine on him? If I anger him by accident, my Kingdom would be doomed!” She exclaimed as she covered her face with her hands, reading to burst into tears.

Sierra could not help but let out a laugh. Her laughter did not do anything to help Myra calm her nerves, in fact, it only brought her more confusion. When she finally simmered down, Sierra patted her on the back.

“Trust me, Myra. King Alistair is not what you think he is. He’s approachable, and most certainly would not doom your Kingdom just because of an accident.”

“You’re just saying that because you’re his favorite,” she sulked.

Sierra was caught off guard, “His favorite?”

When did she, a knightess from the Kingdom of Cair, become the King’s favorite? If anything, she was the one he liked to pick on. Ever since her arrival in Drakin, she seemed to have become his personal fool.

“If I’m his anything, I’m his jester,” Sierra scoffed as she folded her arms.

Returning to the topic at hand, Sierra reassured Myra that there was nothing to worry about. All she had to do was look pretty and await her rewards, it was as simple as that.

When the time came, Myra was summoned to the entrance of the Celestial Lodge. A gilded carriage arrived to receive Myra and bring her to receive her reward. All the princesses gathered at the entrance too, eager to catch a glimpse of the preferential treatment she was receiving.

Sierra did not fight with any of them. She had wished Myra the best of luck before she made her way down the stairs. Instead, she watched over everything from the second-floor window. She watched as Myra entered the carriage, with her maid in tow.

The chatter amongst the princesses filled the halls of the lodge.

“I thought you would be upset, Your Highness,” Ida commented in surprise.

Sierra smiled as they made their way back up to her room, “Why would I be upset?”

Once they were in the confines of the room, Ida grew a little bolder with her comments.

“Perhaps, ’jealous’ would be a better descriptor?”

She glanced over to her maid with narrowed eyes, “You’ve gotten bolder, Ida.”

The maid immediately got down to her knees, ready to apologize for her bold remarks when Sierra pulled her back up almost immediately.

“I was just joking, Ida! No need to be so serious,” she laughed.

“Am I right then, Princess?” Ida followed up. She was eager to know Sierra’s true thoughts.

“I…” Sierra was stumped.

She found herself unable to deny it. Ida had read her mind and her heart. A knock on the door interrupted their conversation. There was a messenger on the other end.

“Princess Sierra, there’s a message for you.”

Ida went down to receive the messenger at once. However, he refused to hand it over to the maid. Instead, he walked up the steps with her to personally deliver it into Sierra’s hands.

Realizing its importance, she opened it to read at once.

She scanned through the message swiftly, not wasting any time. Once she was done, Sierra walked over to the lit candle on her dressing table and reduced the paper to ashes.

She turned to the messenger and spoke, “Tell her, I will be there shortly.”

After the messenger left, Sierra prepared to leave. She had received a message from the

Queen, for them to meet in secret. To avoid any suspicion, she had Ida prepare everything for the rest of the night as per usual.

“I will be back as soon as I can.”

Ida nodded in reply, “Be safe, my princess.”

With her twin swords belted, Sierra tightened the laces on her boots before climbing out of her room window. In her casual attire, it was much easier for her to maneuver as she walked across the roof of the building to get to the side.

To give herself a bit of a head start, Sierra summoned her wings to give herself a little push into the distance as she made her way towards the Queen’s quarters. Unbeknownst to her and the Queen, despite their best efforts to conceal their meeting, their movements were closely monitored.

Synopsis

Princess Sierra left her home kingdom behind to become the concubine of King Alistair. That is what everyone believes. That is what the official records state. That is what the marriage contract declares.

But here is the truth. Sierra is no princess.

She is the adopted daughter of a general, a knightess trained for battle, not for ballrooms. Her hands are more comfortable holding a sword than a silk fan. Her heart understands loyalty, duty, and sacrifice. It does not understand politics, lies, or pretending to be someone she is not.

Yet there she stands, dressed in royal silks, wearing a false crown, playing a role that was forced upon her. The real princess could not, or would not, accept this marriage. So threats were made. Arms were twisted. A knightess was threatened and given a false title to take the place of the woman who was supposed to be here.

Every day in King Alistair's court is a battle Sierra was never trained to fight. One wrong word could expose her. One suspicious glance could unravel everything. The servants watch. The nobles whisper. The truth waits like a blade hanging over her neck.

But fate has a cruel and wonderful sense of humor.

Despite all the odds, despite the lies stacked against them, despite the fact that she is not the woman he thinks she married, King Alistair falls hopelessly in love with her. Not with the false princess. Not with the title. With Sierra. The knightess. The fighter. The woman who never wanted any of this.

He looks at her like she hung the stars. He defends her against every whispering courtier. He gives her the one thing no one ever offered before. His heart.

And Sierra? She is falling too. Straight into the arms of a man who has no idea who she really is.

What will happen when her identity is revealed? Will their love survive the truth, or will the lies destroy everything they have built? The kingdom wants an answer. The court wants a scandal. Sierra just wants to know if love can be stronger than a crown.
