The Kings Mistress Chapter 93

Not prey, not meat[ … words ]

[ … words ]

“I’m not your prey, my love. Nor am I just a piece of meat.”

Alistair chuckled as he closed the distance between them. He gently caressed her cheek as he gazed into her eyes.

“You’re more like a smokey piece of meat. Takes a long time to perfect but comes out tasting so good,” his words were smooth like honey and Sierra was living for it.

She could not help but laugh.

“A Smokey piece of meat? Is that how the King of Drakin picks up women? With such sizzling lines?”

“It’s only reserved for those who are smoking hot,” he played along.

Both of them burst out laughing. Their laughter filled the void of silence, echoing into the night.

“I’m not even wearing anything that would count me as ’smoking hot’ so I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Sierra replied.

Alistair wrapped his hands around her waist. Their bodies were pressed against one another. She could not help but recall the last time they were this close. They were in her bathroom in Celestial Lodge and they ended up in a bath together.

“I’ve already seen what’s underneath,” he said in a low husky voice as he trailed his hand on the collar of her blouse, “And I think the description fits.”

Sierra grinned, she was getting cheeky.

“I think you should reserve your comments until you’ve seen everything,” she whispered in his ear, her hot breath warming his skin.

From the corner of her eye, Sierra noticed a series of flashing lights in the distance. It was a signal she had been waiting for. Realizing it was time for her to go, she removed herself from Alistair’s side and informed him she needed to go.

“Good night, my love,” she blew him a kiss and leaped off the roof, flying into the night sky.

Alistair was left standing there, dumbfounded for a few moments before coming to his senses. One day, he would know everything about her and he would have her in his embrace forever.

Sierra, on the other hand, made sure to fly out of sight before returning to the ground. Once her wings disappeared from her back, she walked out for the forest cover she was in and headed to the meeting point.

She had already scouted the location two nights before. Hence, even under the cover of darkness, she was able to find her way. When she arrived, a hooded figure was already waiting for her arrival.

There was also a carriage waiting for them. Upon getting there, Sierra and the hooded figure got onto the carriage. Once everyone was seated, the carriage driver whipped the horses and they were on their way. A small lamp light lit up the inside of the carriage.

“Did anyone follow you, Sierra?” Queen Roxine asked as she removed her hood.

She shook her head, “No, my Queen. I made sure of it.”

Roxine nodded, “You can address me as Roxine, Sierra. Spare the formalities, especially once we’re beyond the castle walls.”

Sierra nodded. There was a moment of silence between them. Sierra did not know what she could say or ask and it seemed like Roxine sensed it too.

“I’m sure you’re wondering where you’re going with me.”

“Yes.”

Roxine took a deep breath. It felt like she was mustering the courage to do so.

“I’m going to meet with someone,” she explained as she gripped the hems of her dress tightly as her eyes flickered over to Sierra, “And it is best if only you and I know about it. Do you understand what I’m trying to say?”

Sierra nodded without any hesitation. Roxine had helped her so much so far. It was the least she could do to repay the Queen’s kindness. To keep a secret on her behalf, how hard could it be?

After some time in the carriage, they arrived at their destination. The entire ride, Roxine seemed nervous and excited. Not wanting to pry into her matters, Sierra did not ask any further questions about it.

Instead, they talked about their home kingdoms.

“It has been so long since I’ve been able to visit,” Roxine lamented as they got off the carriage, “Perhaps one day, I will return and you can come and visit.”

“Sure,” Sierra said as she helped her off the carriage, “And in turn I’ll bring you around Cair when you visit too.”

Both women were all smiles as they got off the carriage. Sierra scanned their surroundings immediately. She quickly noticed a small group of people far ahead upfront. There was no forest cover around them as they were by a lake.

Sierra placed her hand on the hilt of her sword but Roxine gently placed her hand on hers and shook her head.

“They are not the enemy. They’re with the person I’m here to meet,” Roxine explained as she put up her hood.

A hand shot up amongst the group of people as one of them came towards them. As the person walked into the moonlight, their facial features became clearer. Roxine quickened her pace as she made her way over and Sierra followed closely behind.

She could see the smile on Roxine’s face, one she has never seen before. As she glanced over to take a better look at the person the Queen was meeting, she gasped in surprise. Not knowing what to say, Sierra kept silent and simply observed.

Roxine walked up to the person she has come all this way to meet and hugged them tightly before kissing them on the lips. Sierra was stunned. But the fact that this turned out to be a secret lovers rendezvous was not the main reason she was shocked.

She had not expected the Queen’s lover to be a woman.

“I missed you,” Roxine whispered to her lover when they parted lips.

“Me too.”

She glanced over to Sierra, then back at Roxine.

“Is she the knightess you spoke of?” She asked

Roxine nodded as she signaled Sierra to come forward. She walked over cautiously, still uncertain of what to make of the situation. Was this just a test the Queen had put in place? To test her loyalty perhaps?

Synopsis

Princess Sierra left her home kingdom behind to become the concubine of King Alistair. That is what everyone believes. That is what the official records state. That is what the marriage contract declares.

But here is the truth. Sierra is no princess.

She is the adopted daughter of a general, a knightess trained for battle, not for ballrooms. Her hands are more comfortable holding a sword than a silk fan. Her heart understands loyalty, duty, and sacrifice. It does not understand politics, lies, or pretending to be someone she is not.

Yet there she stands, dressed in royal silks, wearing a false crown, playing a role that was forced upon her. The real princess could not, or would not, accept this marriage. So threats were made. Arms were twisted. A knightess was threatened and given a false title to take the place of the woman who was supposed to be here.

Every day in King Alistair's court is a battle Sierra was never trained to fight. One wrong word could expose her. One suspicious glance could unravel everything. The servants watch. The nobles whisper. The truth waits like a blade hanging over her neck.

But fate has a cruel and wonderful sense of humor.

Despite all the odds, despite the lies stacked against them, despite the fact that she is not the woman he thinks she married, King Alistair falls hopelessly in love with her. Not with the false princess. Not with the title. With Sierra. The knightess. The fighter. The woman who never wanted any of this.

He looks at her like she hung the stars. He defends her against every whispering courtier. He gives her the one thing no one ever offered before. His heart.

And Sierra? She is falling too. Straight into the arms of a man who has no idea who she really is.

What will happen when her identity is revealed? Will their love survive the truth, or will the lies destroy everything they have built? The kingdom wants an answer. The court wants a scandal. Sierra just wants to know if love can be stronger than a crown.
