The Kings Mistress Chapter 112

Hot coals[ … words ]

[ … words ]

A large crowd had gathered around to watch and see what would happen next. Now that the mare was calm and the boar successfully subdued, it quickly dispersed too. Cassandra was already busy yelling at her servants for not doing their job.

She pushed the blame on them, that it was their fault for not checking to ensure the boar was dead before they brought it back to the lodge. Sierra simply stood there as she watched everyone getting back to their routines.

“A simple ’thank you’ would have been nice,” she muttered to herself as she headed back to the lodge.

“What would you like us to do with the boar, Princess Cassandra?” she overheard one of the servants as the princess.

“Just dump it, I have no use for it, not anymore,” she said in disgust as she turned to tend to her mare.

Sierra bit her lip as she turned back. She glanced at the wild boar and the servants who were at a loss. Everything else in her body told her not to, but she could not let it go to waste.

She walked over to Princess Cassandra.

“Where is she going?” Myra muttered to herself with a look of confusion from the side.

She was amongst the many who watched in stunned silence as Sierra worked her magic like a horse whisperer and killed a boar with her blade. Even Ida was worried for her too.

“Princess Cassandra, if you don’t mind,” Sierra startled her, she turned around looking at Sierra all annoyed.

“What do you want?” she grumbled.

“I will gladly take the wild boar off you if you have no need for it anymore,” Sierra explained, “It would be terrible to see it all go to waste.”

“Go to waste?”

“Wild boar meat is actually quite delicious,” Sierra explained with a smile.

She knew how insane it sounded to a princess who had likely never tasted anything that was ground in the wild. The look on Cassandra’s face said it all. Sierra knew exactly what to expect next too.

“If you want my trash, suit yourself,” Cassandra said as she pulled her mare away and left Sierra be.

Sierra kept the smile on her face until Cassandra turned away from her. She turned to the servants and was about to instruct them to bring it to the kitchens when Cassandra stopped them.

She did not even look back as she instructed the servants to leave the boar for Sierra to use.

“I’m sure you have servants to do the work for you?” Cassandra said with a grin as she walked away.

Sierra bit her lip. She chuckled as she shook her head and walked up to the wild boar’s carcass that was now strewn across the ground. The servants looked over at her with pity. They wanted to help, but knew better than to go against a direct order for their princess.

Ida came forward. Though she did not know how to help, she wanted to offer a helping hand. Sierra stopped her from getting too close, not wanting her to soil her clothes.

“But princess…”

“Don’t worry about me, I’ll be alright. My clothes are soiled already anyways,” Sierra replied without much thought.

Before anyone could say anything else, she bent down to pick up the wild boar and placed it over her shoulder. Everyone who stood to watch gasped in shock. Sierra was confused by it, but she paid them no mind.

“Ida, which way to the kitchen?” she asked her mid.

When she saw the shocked look on Ida’s face, Sierra worried if something was wrong.

“Is everything alright, Ida?”

“Princess, is it not… heavy?” Ida asked, as she came a little closer, wanting to relief some of the weight of the boar off her shoulders but did not know how to do so.

Sierra did not feel it very much. During her days in the army, she had to carry sacks of potatoes to train. To her, this was similar in weight so she did not pay it much mine.

“Not really, just lead the way, Ida. I might be strong but I can’t hold onto this forever either,” she chuckled.

“Yes! Sorry. This way, princess,”

Lucky for her, the kitchen was just a short distance away. Along the way, everyone turned and looked on in awe as Sierra carried the wild board across the yard. No one could keep their jaw closed.

After all, it was not every day someone got to see a princess carry a wild boar on their shoulders. By the time Sierra got to the kitchen, she was the talk of the town. The chefs, butchers, maids, and servants, all came out to see her.

All of them were in utter disbelief. Half of them thought they were dreaming. Sierra didn’t really understand what all the fuss was about.

“Let us help you, princess!” the butchers came forward and took the boar from her.

“Careful now, it’s heavy,” she said as she handed it over to them.

It took four men to carry it back into the kitchen. Sierra followed them in, which caused an even larger commotion.

“Did the princess just step into the kitchen?”

“Is that even allowed?”

“She’s… she ’s covered in blood!”

Sierra paid them no mind. She simply followed the butchers in to inform them how she wanted it cut. She also gathered some of the chefs and asked them to prepare a spice marinade.

“I’ll be back to marinate the minced meat once I’ve taken a bath and changed into a different set of clothes.”

“Princess Sierra, you want to come back here?” the chef thought he had misheard her.

“Yes, to complete the marination of course. Oh and please set up grills in the yard with hot coal,” Sierra added.

“Hot coal and grills?”

“Yes for the sausages and meat skewers of course,” Sierra replied as if it was the most logical thing, “I’ll leave you to it.”

With that, she returned to her room in the Celestial Lodge to bath and change, just as she had mentioned earlier. Ida helped her as per usual. She brought her a stronger soap to help wash off the blood from the boar.

Once she was presentable again, she left her room in a hurry. There was only limited sunlight left and Sierra wanted to get things started before the sky turned dark.

“Princess, you don’t have to do this on your own. Let the chefs handle it…” Ida said worriedly as Sierra hurried down the stairs.

Synopsis

Princess Sierra left her home kingdom behind to become the concubine of King Alistair. That is what everyone believes. That is what the official records state. That is what the marriage contract declares.

But here is the truth. Sierra is no princess.

She is the adopted daughter of a general, a knightess trained for battle, not for ballrooms. Her hands are more comfortable holding a sword than a silk fan. Her heart understands loyalty, duty, and sacrifice. It does not understand politics, lies, or pretending to be someone she is not.

Yet there she stands, dressed in royal silks, wearing a false crown, playing a role that was forced upon her. The real princess could not, or would not, accept this marriage. So threats were made. Arms were twisted. A knightess was threatened and given a false title to take the place of the woman who was supposed to be here.

Every day in King Alistair's court is a battle Sierra was never trained to fight. One wrong word could expose her. One suspicious glance could unravel everything. The servants watch. The nobles whisper. The truth waits like a blade hanging over her neck.

But fate has a cruel and wonderful sense of humor.

Despite all the odds, despite the lies stacked against them, despite the fact that she is not the woman he thinks she married, King Alistair falls hopelessly in love with her. Not with the false princess. Not with the title. With Sierra. The knightess. The fighter. The woman who never wanted any of this.

He looks at her like she hung the stars. He defends her against every whispering courtier. He gives her the one thing no one ever offered before. His heart.

And Sierra? She is falling too. Straight into the arms of a man who has no idea who she really is.

What will happen when her identity is revealed? Will their love survive the truth, or will the lies destroy everything they have built? The kingdom wants an answer. The court wants a scandal. Sierra just wants to know if love can be stronger than a crown.
