The Kings Mistress Chapter 150

Place your trust in me[ … words ]

[ … words ]

Sierra looked down at her own hands. She didn’t want to leave her fate up to someone else to decide. It was time for her to take charge of her own future. If the truth was to be revealed, she wanted to play by her rules.

The trial had not gone the way she wanted, and yet she made it through. In the face of that, this was nothing. Whatever the outcome was, she would face it head-on. She had faith in herself.

Sierra curled her hand into a fist and brought it close to her heart. Fully aware of the potential consequences of her actions, she raised her free hand to get everyone’s attention.

“Your Majesty, my sincerest apologies but there’s something I would like to confess,” Sierra said with confidence.

Her voice was no longer shaking.

It was firm and full of confidence.

Everyone turned to see Sierra, stunned by her sudden statement. Even Alistair was caught off guard too. For the first time since he entered the throne room, their eyes met. Sierra’s gaze was one he had not seen before.

He had never seen such fire in her.

Princess Cassandra was stunned when she heard Sierra’s voice ring throughout the throne room. She had been eagerly anticipating the perfect moment to spill the truth. She fantasized about how things would play out.

But Sierra broke her train of thought. From her posture and confidence, Cassandra knew she had something up her sleeve. She watched on in silence as Sierra walked out of the crowd of royals around her and onto the red-carpeted walkway.

“Princess Sierra, do you have no care for the rules of the court? Interrupting the King in the middle of his declaration? Have you lost your mind?!” One of the ministers spoke out, his voice and tone filled with anger.

She recognized him. He was Lord Wimbly, the one who oversaw her case as the judge of her trial. He was a key member of Alistair’s royal court.

Sierra stood her ground. She bit her lip and stilled her palpitating heart.

“My sincerest apologies for the interruption. Trust me, I would not have done this if there was another solution… There is something I must say,” Sierra pleaded.

Before anyone else could say anything, Sierra got down on her knees and lowered her head. Everyone gasped in shock, realizing how serious she was taking the situation.

“Princess Sierra, what is it that you wish to say?” Alistair asked, his voice hinting at confusion.

What was she going to say?

She looked up at him, her eyes were filled with sorrow. At that moment, he wanted nothing more than to embrace her in his arms. But he couldn’t. His feet were rooted to the ground.

Through her eyes, he saw the message she wanted him to receive.

She was trying to apologize for what she was about to say.

Taking in a deep breath of air, Sierra confessed to all, “I have deceived everyone. I, Sierra, am not a princess of the Kingdom of Cair. I am… a knightess.”

“What?”

“Is this real?”

“She lied to all of us?”

Some of the ministers were instantly outraged by her confession. They called for her arrest at once, but without the King’s orders, no one dared to move. Sierra did not close her eyes and hunch her shoulders.

This time, she knelt with her back straightened, facing Alistair as she waited for what came next. Beyond this point, she knew not what would come.

Cassandra folded her arms and let out a sigh. Her perfect plan was ruined. To make matters worse, it was her who ruined her own plans. If she had not told Sierra anything, she might have gotten what she wanted.

But perhaps deep down, this was what she had assumed would happen all along.

“You always know how to ruin things for me, Sierra,” she muttered beneath her breath as she watched on.

Myra and Taita were shocked to learn the truth. Sierra had kept the truth, even from them. But they weren’t angry with her, they were worried about what was going to happen to her.

Alistair’s expression remained unreadable at first. Queen Roxine, who was seated on the throne behind him, was surprised by the development. She did not know why Sierra had chosen to reveal the information now.

After all, things were going their way.

’She must have a reason for doing so,’ she thought to herself.

She turned her attention to Alistair, wondering what he would do now.

After what felt like an eternity, Alistair relaxed his shoulders. A smile formed on his face. Sierra was confused. That was not just a smile, it was a grin.

“Your Majesty, did you know of this?” Lord Wimbly asked him, with the support of a few other ministers.

“No. I told no one,” Sierra responded with lightning speed before anyone else could.

She did not want anyone to be burdened by her faults. This was her burden to bear. Alistair clenched his jaw, he did not expect Sierra to do so. Even at the edge of chaos, she still chose to carry the burden herself, refusing to take anyone with her.

’Sweetling, when will you learn? When will you learn to depend on others to share the weight of the burden?’ Alistair thought to himself.

“That’s where you’re wrong, Knightess Sierra,” Alistair said as he folded his arms.

“I knew about your identity from the very beginning,” their eyes were locked on each other’s as he spoke, “I’ve been waiting to see when you would choose to confess the truth.”

Alistair walked down the steps towards Sierra, his eyes never left hers. Sierra was too stunned to move or speak. It took a few seconds to realize he was playing along with the narrative she was weaving.

“Honesty is an invaluable trait that I admire, the courage to speak up is another,” he said as he reached out his hand to her.

Instinctively, Sierra reached out her hand and placed it on his. The feeling was electric. Sierra rose to her feet, uncertain of what to say.

“But Your Majesty, this… this is treason!” Lord Wimbly accused Sierra while pointing at her.

Synopsis

Princess Sierra left her home kingdom behind to become the concubine of King Alistair. That is what everyone believes. That is what the official records state. That is what the marriage contract declares.

But here is the truth. Sierra is no princess.

She is the adopted daughter of a general, a knightess trained for battle, not for ballrooms. Her hands are more comfortable holding a sword than a silk fan. Her heart understands loyalty, duty, and sacrifice. It does not understand politics, lies, or pretending to be someone she is not.

Yet there she stands, dressed in royal silks, wearing a false crown, playing a role that was forced upon her. The real princess could not, or would not, accept this marriage. So threats were made. Arms were twisted. A knightess was threatened and given a false title to take the place of the woman who was supposed to be here.

Every day in King Alistair's court is a battle Sierra was never trained to fight. One wrong word could expose her. One suspicious glance could unravel everything. The servants watch. The nobles whisper. The truth waits like a blade hanging over her neck.

But fate has a cruel and wonderful sense of humor.

Despite all the odds, despite the lies stacked against them, despite the fact that she is not the woman he thinks she married, King Alistair falls hopelessly in love with her. Not with the false princess. Not with the title. With Sierra. The knightess. The fighter. The woman who never wanted any of this.

He looks at her like she hung the stars. He defends her against every whispering courtier. He gives her the one thing no one ever offered before. His heart.

And Sierra? She is falling too. Straight into the arms of a man who has no idea who she really is.

What will happen when her identity is revealed? Will their love survive the truth, or will the lies destroy everything they have built? The kingdom wants an answer. The court wants a scandal. Sierra just wants to know if love can be stronger than a crown.
