The Kings Mistress Chapter 157

Together again[ … words ]

He instantly recognized it to belong to Sierra and Vy. As the door to the room opened and both of them walked in, he locked eyes with Sierra. Realizing he was naked in the hot spring pool, Sierra immediately blocked Vy’s path and attempted to push her out of the room.

“What’s wrong?” Vy asked, a little confused by her actions.

“He’s awake, he’s…” Vy did not wait for her to finish, she leaned towards the side and saw Alistair waving at them.

“Oh Alistair, you’re up!” Vy waved back at him with a smile on her face.

“Vyrena, he’s… he’s…”

“I know,” she replied Sierra nonchalantly, “It’s not like I’ve never seen a man in the nude before.”

Realizing that it was likely best for them to spend some time alone together, Vy cleared her throat and backed away from the door.

“Since you’ve got company now, I’ll go look for Dygo. Remember to come for lunch later,” Vy said to her before taking her leave, but not before giving Sierra a wink.

Sierra thanked Vy and closed the door carefully. From behind, she could hear Alistair attempting to get out of the water.

“Don’t… don’t get out of the water!” She yelled without turning around.

She was already blushing as she walked backward further into the room, attempting to avoid any form of eye contact with Alistair. He seemingly did as she asked, resubmerging his torso into the water.

She quickly picked up a towel and the set of clothes she had laid out for him and handed them both to him without looking. She was just about to put them down on the side of the hot spring pool when he grabbed hold of her hand.

He leaned in close, next to her ear with a grin on his face. She could not see him, but she would feel it.

“I’m coming out of the water, hold these things for him, will you sweetling?”

He stepped out of the hot spring pool, with some of the water overflowing. Sierra stood extremely still, keeping her eyes straight. She looked back into the room. It did not take her long to notice a mirror, seemingly strategically placed to show her what was happening behind her.

She squinted her eyes shut, refusing to look.

Alistair could not help but chuckle. He took the towel from her hand and dried himself off. Then, he took the set of clothing in her hands and put them on. But despite his best efforts, he could not seem to wear it right.

“Sweetling, I’m going to need your help with this,” he said to her lovingly as he looked down at his waist.

“Help? With what?” Her voice was still shaking.

Amused yet a little annoyed by how shy she was, Alistair spun her around to face him. She tried to cover her face with her hands but he removed them too.

“Do you want me to go out in the nude?” He mused.

“No, no,” she responded immediately.

Lucky for Sierra, Alistair had worn the yukata correctly. All that was left was for her to tie the obi, a sash, around his waist. She took it from him, allowing it to unfurl in his hands. She had seen how Dygo had it worn around his yukata, so she knew how to knot it.

“Raise your arms,” she instructed Alistair and he did as she asked.

She carefully looped her arms around his waist, pulling the sash all-around a few rounds before securing it. Though she wasn’t sure if she had done it right, it looked as good as it could get.

“There,” She said with a sense of achievement as she took a step back.

Now, both of them were dressed in seemingly matching outfits. She had picked a dark blue yukata for him to wear, thinking it would match him well and it did. Sierra went back into the room and brought him a matching haori, an outer layer commonly worn over the yukata by most men.

“The weather here’s much colder, especially when you go out of the room,” she explained as she helped him put the haori on.

She was just about to get him some of the food she had brought back with her for him to eat, but Alistair could not wait for another second longer. He caught hold of her hand and pulled her into his embrace.

“I’ve missed you, sweetling,”

“I’ve missed you too,” she whispered.

She looked up at him, “Isn’t it bad luck or… what was it… against tradition for us to meet before the ceremony?”

Alistair smiled as he looked at her lovingly. Most of the time, he had seen her with her hair down. But right now, she had her hair tied into a single braid. It cascaded down her right shoulder, resting just above her chest.

But not all of her locks were braided, as some of them still framed her face. He carefully twirled a lock of her hair, before tucking it behind her ear. He was quick to notice the cherry blossom flower that was placed in her hair.

“You’re not my concubine, you’re going to be my paramount. Besides, there’s nothing traditional about us, is there?” He mused.

Sierra was captivated by the man before her. She could feel the warmth emanating from his body. What had her entranced was the way he looked at her. It was as if she was the only being in existence and he only had eyes for her.

Her heart palpitated in her chest.

“I guess…, that’s right.”

“So what gift have you prepared for me, the ruler of my heart?” He teased with a cheeky grin.

“Ruler of your heart? Who knew the King of Drakin was such a romantic,” Sierra chuckled, “Also, didn’t you just say traditions don’t apply to us? What present do you speak of?”

Both of them shared a laugh, amused by their own banter with one another.

Synopsis

Princess Sierra left her home kingdom behind to become the concubine of King Alistair. That is what everyone believes. That is what the official records state. That is what the marriage contract declares.

But here is the truth. Sierra is no princess.

She is the adopted daughter of a general, a knightess trained for battle, not for ballrooms. Her hands are more comfortable holding a sword than a silk fan. Her heart understands loyalty, duty, and sacrifice. It does not understand politics, lies, or pretending to be someone she is not.

Yet there she stands, dressed in royal silks, wearing a false crown, playing a role that was forced upon her. The real princess could not, or would not, accept this marriage. So threats were made. Arms were twisted. A knightess was threatened and given a false title to take the place of the woman who was supposed to be here.

Every day in King Alistair's court is a battle Sierra was never trained to fight. One wrong word could expose her. One suspicious glance could unravel everything. The servants watch. The nobles whisper. The truth waits like a blade hanging over her neck.

But fate has a cruel and wonderful sense of humor.

Despite all the odds, despite the lies stacked against them, despite the fact that she is not the woman he thinks she married, King Alistair falls hopelessly in love with her. Not with the false princess. Not with the title. With Sierra. The knightess. The fighter. The woman who never wanted any of this.

He looks at her like she hung the stars. He defends her against every whispering courtier. He gives her the one thing no one ever offered before. His heart.

And Sierra? She is falling too. Straight into the arms of a man who has no idea who she really is.

What will happen when her identity is revealed? Will their love survive the truth, or will the lies destroy everything they have built? The kingdom wants an answer. The court wants a scandal. Sierra just wants to know if love can be stronger than a crown.
