The Kings Mistress Chapter 227

New beginnings[ … words ]

[ … words ]

After the wedding ceremony was complete, the royal couple made their first official appearance together before the people of Cair. All the common folk and nobility were gathered in the town square to give their best wishes to the new couple.

An elaborate feast in the castle was prepared for all attending guests. Sierra and Alistair had a wonderful time with their friends and family.

“Are you tired, my sweetling?” Alistair whispered to Sierra as he watched her yawn.

They were making their way back to their Quarters. They’ve had a wonderful time drinking and entertaining their guests but it took a toll on them too.

“Beyond tired,” Sierra replied as she let out another yawn.

She could barely keep her eyes open. Alistair could not hide the slight disappointment in his eyes. Sierra took notice instantly.

“Did you have something in mind?” She asked, as she wrapped her arms around his and leaned on his shoulder.

As Alistair opened the door, a cheeky grin formed on his face. He pulled her into the room and quickly closed the door behind them. Sierra felt as if she almost had her breath snatched away.

Her back was pressed against the door. Alistair’s right palm rested on the door frame at eye level. Their faces were only less than three inches apart from each other. She gazed soulfully into his eyes as she felt her heart palpitating in her chest.

She could feel the rising heat in her cheeks.

But was that because of the alcohol?

Or something else?

Alistair carefully twirled a lock of her hair, “I might have something in mind…”

He trailed off as he leaned close to her, planting kisses on the side of her neck. His trail of kisses slowly made its way down to her shoulder and collar bone.

Sierra giggled as she wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned against his shoulder as she savored the moment. Before she could do anything else, Sierra gasped as Alistair whisked her into his arms and carried her to bed.

“Are you tired now, sweetling?” He mused as she leaned in close to his chest.

Sierra looked up at him as she reached out her hand to cup his face.

“Not anymore,” she replied with a smirk.

The next day, the newlywed couple woke up in each other’s arms. Alistair held Sierra close, not wanting to let go. Opal, who’d given the couple their privacy for the night the day before, found her way back into their room.

’Wake up, Sierra. It’s time to wake up,’ Opal’s voice rang in Sierra’s mind as she slithered over her sleeping form.

“Good morning to you too, Opal,” Alistair whispered as he reached out his hand to pet the snake.

Opal hissed in reply, as Sierra turned in her sleep. She slowly opened her eyes, only to be greeted with a kiss from her King.

“Good morning,” she mumbled, still half asleep.

She then turned to Opal and greeted her too. Seeing as the sun had shone almost all the way to the wall, Sierra knew they were likely going to be late. Their wedding might be over but there was still excitement to be had.

When they finally got dressed, the royal couple called for breakfast to be served in their room. Ida made sure everything was well taken care of.

“Is everything prepared for our journey, Ida?” Sierra asked as she began to dig into the honey-coated French toast she was having.

“It is, Your Majesty. Preparations at Drakewood Estate have all been completed. The custodians of the estate will meet you both upon arrival.”

In line with the union of their two Kingdoms, Cair and Drakin, Drakewood Estate had been built in record time to facilitate this new union of power. Sierra and Alistair felt that it would not be fair for them to rule from either capital, hence they established their own home on shared land between the two kingdoms.

As of their marriage union, both Kingdoms were united. But one did not become the other, or vice versa. They were now both jointly ruled by Queen Sierra and King Alistair.

Before leaving, Sierra said her goodbyes to her father and the Bancroft Family. She had put them in charge of affairs in the capital. Though their separation was not forever, there might be some time before they meet next.

“Take great care of yourselves, Your Majesties,” General Leon said as he bowed.

“You take care of yourself too, father,” Sierra said as she placed her hand on his shoulder.

She looked over to Lady Tessi and reminded her, “Make sure he gets the rest he needs.”

She didn’t want him to overwork himself.

“Of course, Your Majesty. Will do,” Lady Tessi replied with a smile and a curtsy.

Princess Myra and Taita were there too, to bid them farewell. They were leaving to return to their home kingdoms. Sierra could not bare to part with them, but she promised to keep in touch.

Vy and Dygo were leaving too. They were going to return to the Alterra Sector, where one of their homes was.

“You must visit us some time, Sierra, Alistair,” Vy said to them as she gave Sierra a tight hug.

“The same for the both of you,” Sierra quickly added, “I cannot wait to hear more about your adventures. If you don’t mind, I would love to go on some too!”

“Now now, have you already forgotten about me?” Alistair chuckled as he wrapped his arm around Sierra’s waist to pull her to him.

Vy and Sierra laughed.

“You can come along with us!” Sierra added.

“So I’m just an afterthought then?” Alistair sighed as he shook his head.

Sierra pulled him close, “What? Of course not! I already assumed that you were going to go with us. Why would you think you weren’t coming?”

“Oh come on now you too. Aren’t you embarrassed?” Cassandra scoffed from the side.

Everyone erupted into laughter as Sierra and Alistair blushed beet red. They had almost forgotten that there were others around.

Sierra walked over to Cassandra to say a few words. The two young women had respect for one another, and Sierra was eternally grateful to Cassandra.

“Thank you, for everything,” Sierra said with a smile.

“What for?”

“If you didn’t come looking for me, Alistair and I…” Sierra didn’t want to say any more than that, not wanting the negativity to ruin the day, “If you hadn’t told me, we wouldn’t be here now. So thank you, for everything.”

With that, Sierra and Alistair said their final goodbyes to their friends. They departed on horseback, making their way toward their new home. Sierra was riding on her horse, Midnight, while Macadamia trailed behind them. Alistair rode on his own horse.

“What should we do when we get there?” Alistair asked as a cool breeze blew past them.

Sierra smiled as she looked up at the beautiful blue sky above them, “I think a nice cup of wine would be good. Then perhaps a sparring session, what do you think?”

“A sparring session? In bed?” Alistair teased cheekily.

“Alistair!” Sierra gasped as she nudged him on the arm.

Both of them shared a good laugh, as they continued down their path towards their new life together.

Nothing could ever keep them apart.

Not anymore.

Synopsis

Princess Sierra left her home kingdom behind to become the concubine of King Alistair. That is what everyone believes. That is what the official records state. That is what the marriage contract declares.

But here is the truth. Sierra is no princess.

She is the adopted daughter of a general, a knightess trained for battle, not for ballrooms. Her hands are more comfortable holding a sword than a silk fan. Her heart understands loyalty, duty, and sacrifice. It does not understand politics, lies, or pretending to be someone she is not.

Yet there she stands, dressed in royal silks, wearing a false crown, playing a role that was forced upon her. The real princess could not, or would not, accept this marriage. So threats were made. Arms were twisted. A knightess was threatened and given a false title to take the place of the woman who was supposed to be here.

Every day in King Alistair's court is a battle Sierra was never trained to fight. One wrong word could expose her. One suspicious glance could unravel everything. The servants watch. The nobles whisper. The truth waits like a blade hanging over her neck.

But fate has a cruel and wonderful sense of humor.

Despite all the odds, despite the lies stacked against them, despite the fact that she is not the woman he thinks she married, King Alistair falls hopelessly in love with her. Not with the false princess. Not with the title. With Sierra. The knightess. The fighter. The woman who never wanted any of this.

He looks at her like she hung the stars. He defends her against every whispering courtier. He gives her the one thing no one ever offered before. His heart.

And Sierra? She is falling too. Straight into the arms of a man who has no idea who she really is.

What will happen when her identity is revealed? Will their love survive the truth, or will the lies destroy everything they have built? The kingdom wants an answer. The court wants a scandal. Sierra just wants to know if love can be stronger than a crown.
