KIHO clicked his tongue in frustration.

Solaris died.

[No– the blasted Moon God killed him.]

SNIFF.

Kiho’s heart was already broken by Solaris’ untimely death, but it got even more broken when he heard Winter and Julian cry.

Even Mikhail Denver looked shaken by what happened.

“It’s not your fault, Captain Denver,” Kiho said. If he wasn’t busy blocking Kyro’s Hellfire with his wall of ice, he would have patted the captain’s shoulder. “Focus on the fight. Don’t let Solaris’ sacrifice be put in vain.”

Mikhail Denver sniffled before responding in a cracked voice. “Yes, Your Grace.”

“You, too, boys,” Kiho said to Winter and Julian who were standing on his either sides. “Defend your lives for now and cry later.”

Winter and Julian, who were both supporting Kiho’s wall of ice with their own ice power, swallowed their sobs before responding to him.

“Yes, Dad.”

“Yes, Father.”

“Very well,” Kiho said, clicking his tongue when he noticed the cracks in their wall of ice. “Captain Denver, please protect my children.”

“Yes, Your Grace.”

Without asking questions, Mikhail Denver gently and quickly grabbed Winter and Julian who obediently followed the captain.

Kiho then transformed into his Black Serpent form.

After transforming several times recently, he finally got used to doing it without losing his mind.

And he was glad that he could turn back to his Beast God form at his will.

The Hellfire immediately melted the wall of ice that Kiho made, so he used his body as a Black Serpent to block it and protect everyone behind him.

[Argh!]

And it hurt.

His Beast God form was supposed to be sturdy. Even his scales were as tough as the Blue Dragon’s infamous blue scales. That was why he was confident that his beastly form could withstand the Hellfire.

But he was wrong.

“You foolish son of mine,” Kyro said in a disappointed voice while watching Kiho, in his Black Serpent form, fall to the ground while hissing in pain. “What made you think you could block the Hellfire without sustaining injury? If I had used more flame, then you would have died already.”

Kiho only hissed but, to be honest, he didn’t even have the energy to talk back.

When his body hit the floor, he had already returned to his human form.

His entire torso was burnt, and he had a large burn on his exposed stomach area as his shirt practically melted because of Kyro’s Hellfire.

His burns hurt like hell.

[If I wasn’t a Beast God, I would have died already.]

“Daddy!”

“Father!”

“Don’t come here!” Kiho used the remaining strength in his body to yell at his children. “Stay where you are!”

It was because he saw Kyro preparing a pretty large ball of Hellfire in his hand.

[Dammit!]

Kiho forced himself to stand up, causing every inch of his body to get strained even more. But he didn’t have time to worry about himself at the moment.

He raised his trembling hands in an attempt to create another wall of ice.

But the one he created this time collapsed easily with just the heat of the Hellfire.

Tsk!

Kiho was about to transform into his Black Serpent form again when, suddenly, Wixx appeared and stood in front of him.

“My sister won’t forgive me if I let you die, too,” Wixx said without looking back at him while raising his hands. It looked like the Red Phoenix was planning to use his red flame to block Kyro’s Hellfire. “Go. Aku Moonchester is trying to escape.”

Right.

Aku Moonchester had been so quiet that Kiho had almost forgotten about the emperor.

“Daddy…”

“Father…”

Kiho looked down and saw Winter and Julian looking up at all the burns scars on his bare torso.

His two boys were on the verge of crying again.

“I’m fine,” Kiho lied while patting Winter and Julian’s heads. “Don’t cry.”

The ground suddenly shook hard as something behind them exploded.

Kiho instinctively hugged Winter and Julian to protect his children from the debris flying around them.

But he actually didn’t have to do it.

When Kiho glanced at over his shoulder, he saw Mikhail Denver put up a barrier to keep them safe. “Thank you, Captain.”

“This is the only thing I can do for us,” Mikhail Denver said, gulping hard while watching the fight between Wixx and Kyro. “I’ll just get in the way of the Red Phoenix if I try to help him with his fight with the Moon God.”

That was a good decision.

Kiho looked up and saw Wixx release a huge wave of red flame that blocked Kyro’s Hellfire.

The Red Phoenix and the Moon God were both suspended in the air, and the two were also trying to push each other back with the gigantic and dangerous flames between them.

[We need to get out of here fast.]

Kiho immediately looked for Aku Moonchester in order to gauge what to do next.

[Ah, there he is.]

He found the emperor standing in the middle of a magic circle that he made while everyone was busy fighting for their lives.

It was a common magic circle, hence Kiho recognized it right away.

[A teleportation spell!]

And a long-distance one, at that.

Aku Moonchester, who met Kiho’s eyes, smiled arrogantly at him while his body was turning translucent. “See you later, Brother.”

Kiho hissed while removing his arms around Winter and Julian in order to chase after Aku Moonchester.

But, much to his shock, his children suddenly ran towards the emperor.

“Winter, Julian, come back here!” Kiho yelled while running after his children. But the large burn in his stomach suddenly started to feel like it was getting worse, so he was forced to stop running. Even so, he still dragged his legs in an attempt to follow his kids. “Winter! Julian! Stop!”

“I’m sorry, Dad!” Winter said loudly in an apologetic voice without looking at him. “But you have to get treated, so we’ll run after Aku Moonchester! I’m the only one who can kill him anyway! But I promise not to kill him until we figure out how to do it without you dying with him, Dad!”

“I’ll keep an eye on Winter and make sure to keep him alive, Father!” Julian yelled, bowing towards Kiho apologetically. “I’m sorry, Father!”

Winter and Julian then entered the magic circle.

Aku Moonchester, whose entire body was already translucent, just laughed and welcomed the kids before he disappeared.

The emperor vanished with Winter and Julian.

Kiho clutched his burning stomach, his vision starting to get blurry as he felt his consciousness fading away. “No…”

***

IT WAS a pandemonium.

When Tilly arrived at the palace with Luna, only chaos greeted her.

Wixx and Kyro were fighting mid-air with their flames.

And Kiho was unconscious on the floor.

“What happened to Kiho?” Tilly asked worriedly when she saw the captain kneeling on the ground while pressing his hands on her husband’s stomach. “Honey…”

She trailed off when she realized what Mikhail Denver was doing exactly.

The captain’s hands weren’t actually pressed against Kiho’s stomach. A red light was coming out of Mikhail Denver’s hands…

… and the captain was actually trying to extinguish the violent flame that was burning Kiho’s already burned skin.

“No,” Tilly said weakly, falling to her knees. “Kiho!”

As if seeing her husband in that horrible state wasn’t bad enough, she also realized one vital thing.

[Our children aren’t here…]

And then, she noticed that Captain Kiho gulped while staring at her mouth. [‘Ah, I’m not the only who’s hot and bothered here.’] She didn’t know if it was the alcohol in her system or her desperation to have a child… … but she suddenly felt like flirting with him. They were bound to get married and have a child together anyway. “Captain,” said Tilly as soon as she pulled the crab leg out of her mouth. “I can clearly see that we’re both attracted to each other. Shall we spend the night together?” Kiho remained pokerfaced but she saw panic cross his now glowing yellowish eyes. Ah, the captain was flustered. “My lady, you seem to be really drunk.” She walked towards him and when he didn’t move an inch, she stood in front of him and looked up at him with a grin. “Captain, are you the type of man who will only sleep with his betrothed?” “That seems to be the case, my lady.” He said that as if he was forcing the words out of his mouth. Plus, she could see in his eyes that he was conflicted– that it was hard for him to reject her. [‘Aw, I didn’t know that I have this kind of effect on my ex-husband.’] Or perhaps she just didn’t pay attention in the past. “Captain, I have a solution to your problem,” said Tilly in a playful voice. Then, she stood on her toes and whispered in Kiho’s ear. “Let’s get married.”
