The Broken Halo Chapter 162

Chapter 162: Seventh Dosage

“Who wants to come up first?”

The moment this question was asked, nearly every one of Simon’s classmates turned and looked at him.

After asking so many questions, getting a compliment from Researcher Mahan, and being the center of attention, everybody expected him to be the first to step out.

They thought he’d be eager, and even Researcher Mahan and Instructor Valdin thought Simon would be the first to step out.

But to their surprise, Simon stood with his arms folded and did not move an inch.

He calmly and indifferently stared at the laboratory bed, completely ignoring the gazes of his classmates, the class instructor, and the researcher.

’You expect me to be the first to step out? Absolutely not. I cannot 100% believe the words of Researcher Mahan where he said that they no longer have cases of death because of multiple advancements in their research.’

’Somebody else can step up and allow me to observe everything. Not me.’

Meanwhile, Instructor Valdin stared at Simon with a glint in his eye.

’Is he being cautious, or he’s just a coward?’

As for Researcher Mahan, he was slightly disappointed because he thought Simon was a kindred spirit who loved to research like he did.

’But turns out he’s not. What a shame. I could have offered him a position in the research department even though he’s a slave.’

Just as Researcher Mahan was about to shake his head, one of Simon’s classmates walked out, and Researcher Mahan’s eyes shone with slight surprise.

“Ohh.” He exclaimed softly.

“Hmm.” Instructor Valdin hummed softly also.

Simon was also taken aback and surprised because he did not expect this individual to be the first to step out.

“Good. Now, Sunless, please lay on the bed and don’t be afraid. It might hurt a little bit, but you won’t die. I can assure you of that.”

Sunless who was wearing a plain white mask with no eye opening nodded, then she walked to the bed.

She calmly lay on the bed, then Researcher Mahan looked at the other researchers who had been quietly watching the whole thing the whole time.

“Let’s get to work.”

The researcher’s nodded, then they approached Sunless and used thick belts to tie her wrists and ankles to the bed.

Even her chest and abdomen were tied by thick belts, and this caused some of her classmates to take a couple of steps back in fear.

“Did they not say its not dangerous?”

“Why so many belts?”

“Is she going to die?”

“I would rather face my father than be tied to that bed.”

Because of Simon, many of his classmates no longer had that fear to speak, and what encouraged it was the fact that Instructor Valdin was not reprimanding them.

His attention was solely on Sunless.

Meanwhile, Simon observed everything that was happening carefully with indifferent eyes and with folded arms.

A few seconds later, Sunless glanced in his direction, and though he could not see her face or eyes, he was certain that she was looking at him.

He frowned.

“Alright, Sunless. Now, I just want you to stay calm and don’t panic. You’ll be fine.” Researcher Mahan said, and Sunless shifted her gaze to the researcher with a red diagonal cross on his face.

She nodded without saying anything.

One of the researchers brought a black box with chaos runes on it, then she placed it on top of her palm in front of Researcher Mahan.

Researcher Mahan placed his right hand on the box, and the chaos runes lit up and the box opened with aclick.

Black fog was released from that tiny opening, and when Researcher Mahan fully opened the box, the dense black fog in the box could be seen by all.

A few moments later, the black fog dissipated, revealing seven syringes.

Each syringe was numbered using the roman numerals, and Researcher Mahan picked up the syringe with the number“I”on it.

What was inside the syringe seemed to be a black liquid that would randomly change from a liquid state to a gaseous state.

Researcher Mahan stood before Sunless with the syringe in his hand.

“Like I said, just be calm. I’ll inject you with the first dosage of Formula X.”

Sunless nodded without saying anything, then Researcher Mahan pierced her left arm with the needle.

The black substance which is Formula X was slowly injected into Sunless’ body, and Researcher Mahan observed her closely, not wanting to miss a thing.

After a minute, there was no reaction from Sunless, and Researcher Mahan nodded.

“Sixty seconds have gone by and no reaction. Her veins are normal. Her breathing is perfect. Her heart rate is okay. Her skin shows no sign of change, and there’s no discomfort.”

“From these signs, this shows that Initiate Sunless awakened a shadow affinity in her Coming of Age Rite. At the moment, her affinity grade is at least F rank.”

As Researcher Mahan spoke, the three other researchers in the lab aside from the female researcher wrote down everything Researcher Mahan said.

“Alright. Moving to the second dosage.”

Researcher Mahan took the second syringe with the inscription-IIon it, then he slowly injected Formula X into Sunless’ body.

Just like the first dose, there was no reaction or changes in Sunless body.

“Moving to the third dosage.”

He injected her again with the third dosage of Formula X, and once again, there was no reaction.

“Moving to the fourth dosage.”

He did the same thing, and he got the same result- still no reaction from Sunless’ body.

Instructor Valdin’s eyes flashed in the darkness of his robe and his body was slightly tense. Even Researcher Mahan also had a glint in his eyes.

“Moving to the fifth dosage.”

Once again, he injected her with Formula X, but there was still no reaction.

This time around, the gazes of Instructor Valdin, Researcher Mahan, and the other researchers were extraordinarily bright.

“Moving to the sixth dosage.”

Researcher Mahan inhaled then exhaled deeply, then he took the sixth syringe with the inscription-VI-on it.

He stared at Sunless with a flash of excitement in his eyes. He inhaled deeply once again, then he injected her with the Formula X.

Time went on and on, and after a minute, there was still no reaction from her body.

Researcher Mahan’s pupils trembled with excitement, and so did Instructor Valdin.

This meant that Sunless had an A grade shadow affinity.

Such a grade was rare and high in the clan and even in the entire demon realm, especially for a unique element like the shadow element.

“No reaction. Moving unto the seventh and final dosage.”

In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
