The Broken Halo Chapter 283

Chapter 283: I Am Actually…

It took Simon a while to organize his thoughts and to not fall too deeply when it came to his Balance Theory.

It was truly a terrifying theory the more he thought about it, and a part of him just hoped that his Balance Theory was actually wrong.

Cause if it was not, things would become a lot more difficult for him.

He exhaled deeply as he looked at the ceiling while leaning into his chair with his legs crossed.

’Now that I think about it, Zaglur said something about the Second Great War.’

—–

“And then the Second Great War between Earth and the Demon Realm. But for demons like me who have more information compared to the masses, we call the Second Great War the Great War of Demon Princes and Earth’s Demi-Gods.”

—–

His memory was excellent, and he could accurately recall Zaglur’s words back then.

He had not found it strange when Zaglur said that the Second Great War was not exactly the Second Great War between Earth and the Demon Realm, but the Great War of Demon Princes and Earth’s Demi-Gods.

Just like the name, Demon Princes were demons who were the next in line to the throne of a kingdom.

Simon thought that the reason why Zaglur mentioned the Demon Princes was because of the princes of the Kingdom of Death.

In fact, his focus was not on it at that time, and he didn’t even think about it that much when it was mentioned.

But now?

He knew that it was completely strange that Zaglur would call the Second Great War a war between the Demon Princes and Earth’s Demi-Gods.

What happened to the Demon Lords who were still alive after he killed the Demon King of Death?

Who were the Demon Princes Zaglur was referring to?

From what he read, it was definitely not the princes of the Kingdom of Death.

Simon frowned deeply, then he looked at the time on his Grave Mark.

’About one hour left… Hmm… If I still have time after reading these last two books, I’ll look for a book that talks about the Demon Princes of the Second Great War.’

’But I wouldn’t be surprised if I don’t find anything.’

Simon exhaled deeply again, then he looked down at the book on the demon realm’s economy and geopolitics.

He was about to pick up the book on geopolitics, but a black smoke suddenly shot out of his chest and Lilith appeared before him.

Simon calmly raised a brow at her sudden appearance.

“What is it?”

Lilith remained silent for a while, her golden draconic eyes staring at Simon’s sky-blue feline eyes for a seemingly long moment.

There was a strange tension in the air, but because none could see Lilith, nobody senses it.

Eventually, her lips parted open, and she spoke.

“Who are you?”

Simon raised his brows in confusion.

“I am Blackmoon, a slave and Initiate of the Shadowgrave Clan. Don’t you know that?”

She instantly frowned at his question.

“You know what I mean, so stop playing dumb or stop trying to act smart.”

She gestured at the book of the Second Great War, then at the book of the First Great War which is on the shelf.

“I was wondering why the first book you chose to read was a history book, but when I thought about it, I realized that it meant I was right.”

“You’re an old demon inhabiting this child’s body. What you just did proves it.”

Simon tilted his head slightly.

“But you know that I could have read those books because I was interested in the two Great Wars, right? It’s a fascinating story after all.”

Lilith scoffed with a tinge of anger flashing in her eyes.

“That nonsensical excuse might work on somebody else or somebody who doesn’t know the truth about you, but not me. Do not take me for a fool.”

Simon was silent for a while, then he released a sigh and shook his head with a light smile.

“I would never take you for a fool, Lilith. I respect you.”

Lilith frowned. “Then tell me, what’s your true identity? Are you the hero mentioned in this book?”

Simon raised a brow.

“And what makes you to say that? As you can see, I’m a demon, not a human.”

Lilith’s frown deepened.

“Your expression drastically changed when you read that a beggar said the comrades of the hero used his blood and flesh to become Demi-Gods.”

Simon looked down and remained silent for a while, and Lilith’s expression darkened when Simon did not give her an answer for nearly ten seconds.

“So, you’re really the hero that was mentioned. You’re a human. You’re a demon slayer, and you’re a pawn of those bastards.”

Simon raised his head and looked at Lilith.

He could see the disgust, anger, and most importantly, confusion as she looked at him.

His lips curled into a charming smile.

“You shouldn’t frown or have such an expression, Lilith. It’ll ruin your beauty.”

Lilith immediately scowled.

“You think this is a joke to you? You think this is funny?”

Simon’s smile remained.

“I’m not laughing.”

Lilith’s eyes flashed with anger, and she was about speak, but Simon spoke before her.

“I am not the hero that was mentioned in the book.”

Lilith scoffed. “Then how do you explain-“

Simon raised a hand.

“Let me finish.”

Lilith stopped talking, and Simon lowered his hand.

“I have never denied that I’m not actually a sixteen year old since that’s true. Just like you said, I’m an old demon.”

“I am actually… The Demon King of Death.”

Lilith frowned with more confusion than anger.

“What?”

Simon exhaled deeply and looked up.

“I am the Demon King of Death. I was killed by the first hero of earth, but through my powers, I was able to reincarnate into this boy’s body.”

“I did not choose this boy because he was talented or his destiny was immense.”

“No.”

“I wanted to live, and this boy was unfortunately the target of my reincarnation.”

“I am the Demon King of Death, not the hero.”

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
