Combined with his new Rune Inscription skill, Appraisal would allow him to not only create powerful runic enchantments but also to analyze and understand enchantments created by others. He could learn from examining runes, could identify weaknesses in enemy defensive arrays, could ensure he wasn’t purchasing cursed or defective equipment.

The synergy between the two skills was incredibly high.

Finally, Moon’s eyes settled on the last new skill. His expectations were high, almost certain it would be epic rank based on the previous skills, and judging by its name, directly related to his lightning element.

[Lightning Raiju]

[Rank: Epic]

[Level: MAX]

[Details: You conjure a devastating lightning attack that manifests in the form of a Raiju—a mythical beast-spirit composed entirely of electrical energy. The lightning spell takes physical shape as a wolf-like creature that charges toward targets with terrifying speed. The Raiju can be directed mentally after casting and will relentlessly pursue designated targets until collision occurs. +150% Lightning Damage. +150% Armor and Barrier Penetration.]

Moon stared at the description, his eyes almost blank in surprise.

This was going to be certainly the most powerful strike in his arsenal. Lightning was his most powerful element, and he had finally gained a specific skill that catered towards it, and it wasn’t just any skill, but an epic one too.

Lightning Raiju’s singluar damage would easily outperform Ignite, and +150% to both damage and penetration. That meant the Raiju would hit with two and a half times the force of his normal lightning attacks, and could pierce through defensive barriers and armor with equal effectiveness.

Unlike his previous lightning attacks which were simple bolts that traveled in a zig-zag lines and could be dodged by really fast opponents, Lightning Raiju could be mentally directed after casting even if it would probably cost more mana. It would pursue targets relentlessly, adjusting its trajectory mid-flight to account for evasive maneuvers.

It was a perfect one shot, one kill spell. A hunting tool for taking down evasive or heavily-armored opponents. A nightmare for anyone who relied on speed or defensive equipment to survive.

Combined with his existing [Ignite], Moon’s firepower had just taken a massive leap forward, making him one of the strongest, if not the strongest awakener alive.

Moon leaned back against the headboard, his mind still processing everything he’d gained.

Three epic skills, all at max level.

Forty attribute points that had pushed his physical and magical capabilities to heights that were beyond normal.

He’d walked an impossible path. He’d moved forward when even his mind had given up. And he’d been rewarded appropriately for that achievement.

Moon’s smile widened slightly as a thought occurred to him.

He hadn’t even evolved yet.

When he finally underwent his class evolution and ascended to to become an Evolver, all of these gains would be multiplied by whatever bonuses that transformation provided.

For now, he needed to find Selene and Yara, figure out where they were and how long he’d been unconscious, and start adapting to his new capabilities.

———

Moon swung his legs off the bed and stood—

Creak!

The door of his room opened slowly, the hinges protesting with a soft groan that seemed unnaturally loud in the quiet of his room.

Moon’s eyes immediately fixed on the entrance. He expected to see Selene or Yara entering to check on him.

Instead, a hooded figure he didn’t recognize stepped through the doorway.

The moment the figure spotted Moon’s gaze on him, his eyes widened, and his hand moved to press a button on a small artifact held in their palm.

Moon felt a change immediately as runic arrays activated around the room.

‘A silencing rune,’ Moon thought, his new assimilated knowledge about runes immediately identifying it, ‘designed to prevent sound from escaping the space which the rune was activated in.’

His eyes narrowed as the figure’s other hand revealed a wicked-looking dagger, the blade gleaming with an oily sheen, poison coating its edge.

Moon didn’t feel threatened by the assassin standing before him.

‘He is an A-Ranker. Not weak by normal standards,’ he assessed.

But compared to Moon, someone who’d slaughtered countless S-rank beasts, this assassin might as well have been a child playing with kitchen utensils.

“Who are you?” Moon asked, his expression completely neutral, his voice carrying none of the fear or panic the assassin had probably expected.

“Shut up, brat.” The assassin’s voice was rough, “That woman won’t be here to save you by the time I’m done. So let’s make this easy, give me your storage ring and that armor you’re wearing right now. Otherwise…”

‘Woman? Probably Selene who brought me here,’ Moon thought, filing that information away. So the assassin had been watching them, had seen Selene’s power somehow, and had decided to target Moon while she was away under the assumption he was weaker, easier prey.

A fatal miscalculation that would end his career for good.

“Otherwise what?” Moon smiled.

The assassin’s grip on his dagger tightened at the dismissive tone. “You…little shit.”

Moon activated his new [Appraisal] skill, curious to see its capabilities in action.

[Silencing Rune]

[Order: First]

[Rank: B]

[Details: For a duration of ten minutes, no sound will escape a radius of five meters around the rune’s activation point. Creates a spherical barrier of sound suppression anchored to four inscription points.]

In Moon’s vision, additional information flashed before his retina. He could see the rune’s structure—red hue appearing over specific locations in the room where the artifact had laid inscription points to maintain the effect. Certain parts on the walls, floor and ceiling glowed faintly in his sight, showing him exactly where the array’s hidden anchor points existed.

And more importantly, showing him the weaknesses in the formation. Points where the energy flow was thinnest, where disrupting a single inscription would collapse the entire effect.

‘These are the structural vulnerabilities, I could exploit them to break the array whenever I wanted.’

But why would he?

A soundproof room was just as useful for him as it was for the assassin. Perhaps more so.

Moon’s attention returned to the would-be killer, who was slowly advancing with a confident gait.

“Boy, it seems like your brain is still fuzzy from just waking up,” the assassin said, his aura suddenly flaring outward, an attempt to suppress Moon through sheer presence, to make him feel the weight of an A-rank awakener’s power and convince him that resistance was futile.

The pressure washed over Moon like a gentle breeze.

He didn’t even blink.

The assassin’s confident advance faltered slightly as he realized his aura suppression had produced exactly zero effect. Moon stood there completely unaffected, not showing even the slightest discomfort from power that should have made even B-Rank awakener’s knees buckle.

A thought flickered through the assassin’s mind: ‘What if this kid is as strong as that woman?’

But he immediately dismissed it. S-rank awakeners weren’t common enough to randomly encounter two of them traveling together in a backwater base like Rocketer. The base lord himself was only a low A-rank, if two S-rank individuals were present, the entire power structure would be in upheaval.

‘No, the kid was probably an A-Ranker himself. Or has some artifact protecting him from my aura pressure. Either way, time to end this quickly before the woman returned.’

The assassin wasted no more time on intimidation. Realising that the kid in front of him might be a threat, he leapt forward with the explosive speed of an A-rank combatant, his dagger sweeping toward Moon’s throat in a killing strike designed to end the fight in a single motion.
