I Use Illusions To Control The Whole World Chapter 16
Are you sure you’re holding me hostage?
“You’ve been poisoned.”
“Poisoned?” Yang Dongqing glared at Su Mu. “Impossible! I didn’t inhale any of the poison gas on the fourth floor. How could I be poisoned?”
Su Mu gave a relaxed smile. “Who said… the poison was from the fourth floor?”
Yang Dongqing was stunned. He had no idea when he could have been poisoned.
But behind him, Nan Mo suddenly trembled, her pupils constricting sharply. She clearly realized something.
Noticing her reaction, Yang Dongqing also caught on.
“It was the meal Jasmine cooked?!”
In that moment, countless emotions flooded his face—shock, fury, heartbreak, and disbelief.
“No! It’s not like that!” Nan Mo’s face turned pale as she tried to explain. “It wasn’t me. I didn’t poison you. And… I ate it too!”
“Miss Jasmine, perhaps you’ve forgotten,” Su Mu reminded gently from the side, “you vomited once earlier.”
“But I didn’t poison anything! Yang Dongqing, you have to believe me! I didn’t do it. It must have been Su Mu. He must’ve poisoned the food while I was cooking!”
Yang Dongqing’s mind was a mess. His strength was fading fast, and his breathing grew heavier. The world spun around him.
Thud!
He stumbled and fell to the ground.
“Yang Dongqing!” Nan Mo panicked, her face drained of color. She rushed to help him up, but how could a weak girl like her support a man with a body of steel?
“Alright, alright. That meal wasn’t poisoned,” Su Mu said calmly. Nan Mo felt a brief wave of relief—but the next words crushed her again. “But the person who did poison him… was Miss Jasmine.”
“You’re lying! I didn’t!” Nan Mo lost control and shouted.
“No, you did. The poison remained on your lips. Oh, I nearly forgot—by now, he’s probably ingested it all, hasn’t he? I imagine it tasted a little… salty?”
Nan Mo froze on the spot. It took two whole seconds before she reacted. She stared at Su Mu in horror. “It was the wine! No… no, you drank it too. It was the wineglass! You laced the rim of the wineglass with poison, so when I drank from it, it got on my lips! I understand now! That’s why you insisted I drink the wine before I left. I had thrown up earlier and wiped away the poison, so you made me drink again to reapply it! It was you!
Dongqing! Dongqing! Did you hear that? It wasn’t me! It was Su Mu—it was him!”
Yang Dongqing said nothing. He looked at Nan Mo, dazed and lost, his voice raspy. “Didn’t you say… you escaped on your own? Then why were you drinking wine with him? You found me so quickly—doesn’t that mean you were watching the surveillance feeds too?
So… you were sitting there with him in the surveillance room, watching me struggle while laughing and sipping wine together? Jasmine… which of your words were real, and which were lies?!”
Nan Mo froze, her hands falling helplessly to her sides. The blood drained from her beautiful face, leaving her looking like a soulless puppet.
“By the way,” Su Mu added with a smile, “you didn’t just drink the wine. Miss Jasmine also had quite the appetite—she enjoyed a fine M9 steak.”
Double kill!
One line shattered both hearts.
Su Mu sighed, watching the two like soulless husks. Love was strange indeed—one moment, they were passionately kissing, the next, they were strangers.
“Well then, may I ask my question now, Yang Dongqing… classmate?” Su Mu stood three meters away, smiling warmly.
But in the eyes of Yang Dongqing and Nan Mo, that smile looked like the grin of a devil.
“You… ask,” Yang Dongqing muttered with his head lowered.
“Alright, thank you for cooperating. First question—”
“Go to hell!!”
Suddenly, Yang Dongqing leapt up like a wild beast, burning his last bit of strength to lunge at Su Mu with everything he had.
At a distance of only three meters, even in his weakened state, Yang Dongqing could still crush Su Mu with just one strike.
But Su Mu seemed to have expected this. He gracefully leapt backward, easily dodging the desperate assault.
Boom!
Yang Dongqing smashed into the ground, his fall carving dents into the hard floor. He had used all his remaining strength—he could no longer stand.
His eyes were filled with rage, hate, and unwillingness. He glared at Su Mu as if he wanted to tear him limb from limb.
“Knew you wouldn’t cooperate,” Su Mu said, brushing dust from his suit. “I mean, isn’t this how it always goes in TV dramas?”
“Now, I ask, you answer.”
“In your dreams! I’d rather die than tell a despicable rat like you!” Yang Dongqing roared.
Su Mu wasn’t bothered. He just shrugged. “Looks like I’ll have to use… special methods.”
“No!” Nan Mo, who had been in a daze, suddenly lunged forward. She grabbed Su Mu’s collar, her face streaked with tears.
“Please, I beg you—don’t hurt him!”
“Jasmine…” Yang Dongqing’s eyes reddened, his heart in turmoil.
“You don’t have to beg him!”
“Dongqing, I’ve wronged you… I won’t let him hurt you again!”
The two looked into each other’s eyes, red-eyed with emotion.
Sigh.
Su Mu stood between them, sighing deeply. “You two are really making me out to be the villain here. All I wanted was to ask a few questions. Why force my hand? If that’s how it is, then I’ll just—”
Swish!
A flash of silver.
Suddenly, Su Mu felt a chill at his neck—a sharp sting against his skin. A dagger gleamed in the light. Its wielder was none other than Nan Mo!
“Chief!”
“Protect the Chief!”
Zhao Chaoyao and the others turned pale and moved to act.
“If any of you move, I’ll kill him!” Nan Mo roared, like a frightened kitten baring its claws.
Zhao Chaoyao and the others froze, afraid to make a wrong move.
“Su Mu, release Yang Dongqing right now, or I’ll… I’ll kill you!” Nan Mo’s hand trembled, but her gaze was firm—because she knew she was protecting the man she loved.
“Jasmine! Don’t worry about me. Go! Just go!” Yang Dongqing cried anxiously. He cared more about Nan Mo’s safety than his own.
“Wow, you two really switch faces fast. Back together again? What was that, one minute?” Su Mu chuckled, seemingly unfazed by being held hostage.
“Su Mu! Give the order!” Nan Mo shouted, her tone tense and desperate.
But Su Mu didn’t respond. Instead, he continued talking to himself. “Despite all the romantic nonsense, this was pretty exciting. Especially the ending—what a twist. I was so focused on guarding against Yang Dongqing’s last attack that I overlooked you, Miss Jasmine.
You’re brave—not everyone dares to hide a dagger in the Viper Gang’s base and use it to hold me hostage. But…”
Su Mu’s voice suddenly deepened, and his tone grew cold.
“Miss Jasmine, are you sure… the person you’re holding hostage… is really me?”
