I Use Illusions To Control The Whole World Chapter 45
The truth is always on my side
Su Mu didn’t stop walking forward. The once innocent voices of the children grew more mature, as if they were growing up.
“This idiot is still playing with mud.”
“Of course she is, she’s an idiot after all.”
“Hey, look at that—this idiot actually has quite a figure.”
“You’re right. Let’s go take a closer look.”
“Tingting, come play with us.”
“Really?” Tingting asked in surprise. “You guys want to play with me now?”
Su Mu noticed that even Tingting’s voice was changing, becoming more like the one from the shadow of time.
“Of course, we’re from the same village. How about this, Tingting, let’s play a fun game.”
“You’ll find out soon, but you mustn’t tell your grandma, or we won’t play with you anymore.”
…
…
“Wuwuwu… I don’t want to play anymore, this game isn’t fun! You’re all bad people! You’re bullying Tingting…”
“Quick, catch her! Don’t let her run!”
“You beasts!” An old voice shouted, followed by the sound of a wooden stick striking bodies and screams of pain.
Su Mu recognized that voice—it was Tingting’s grandmother.
“Tingting, remember this. During the day when Grandma is out working in the fields, you stay at home and lock the door. Don’t open it for anyone. Grandma made your favorite dumplings. They’re in the cupboard. If you get hungry, take them out and eat.”
“Okay, Grandma. Tingting will remember.”
“Grandma, why do they call Tingting an idiot?”
“Because they’re bad people. Tingting is not an idiot. Tingting is the smartest child in the whole world.”
A bell-like laughter rang out. Tingting cheered joyfully, “Tingting is the smartest child in the whole world! Tingting is the smartest child in the whole world!”
…
“Tingting, open the door for Uncle.”
“No! Grandma said Uncle is a bad person.”
“How could Uncle be a bad person? Look, Uncle brought your favorite lollipops.”
“Really?”
“Of course it’s true. Come on, open the door.”
“Ah!! You’re lying! You’re a bad person!”
“Hehe, Tingting is getting prettier by the day.”
…
“Hey, look! That idiot is bringing dumplings to the grave again.”
“She really is dumb. Aunt Li saw her starving for days and kindly gave her two steamed buns, but she refused. She insisted on dumplings, saying her grandma loves dumplings the most. Only the village chief is kind enough to give her dumplings every now and then. And she, well, brings them to the grave every single day.”
“No one knows who told her her grandma was sleeping underground. Then she started going door to door asking for dumplings. I heard that if you give her dumplings, then…”
At that moment, the voices abruptly stopped.
The black shadow hand Su Mu had been holding also disappeared without a trace.
Su Mu opened his eyes and found himself in a dim, worn-out room. The rocking chair inside was still, and the sky outside was just starting to brighten.
The little girl, Tingting, stood quietly in front of him, tilting her head and looking at him curiously.
“Big Brother, were you sleeping standing up just now?”
Su Mu gave a gentle smile and rubbed Tingting’s dry, messy hair. “Yes, Big Brother just fell asleep standing up.”
Tingting laughed happily. “Big Brother, you’re lying. No one sleeps standing up.”
Su Mu put on a shocked expression. “You caught me, huh? Tingting is really smart.”
Tingting giggled even more, her big eyes curved like crescent moons, showing her tiny white teeth. “Of course! Grandma says Tingting is the smartest child in the whole world!”
“Yes, Tingting is the smartest child in the whole world.” Su Mu nodded with a smile.
At that moment, as if she remembered something, Tingting hurried to the cupboard, opened it, and brought out a plate of dumplings.
“Big Brother, do you want some dumplings? They’re delicious! Tingting and Grandma love dumplings the most!”
Suddenly, the voices of Ye Fanyu and the others came from outside.
“Damn sky, it brightened so fast,” Yang Dongqing grumbled.
“This house is too small. If we stay here, those shadows might come back. Listen to me—let’s switch to another house.”
“No!” Zhao Chaoyao said firmly. “What if the chief comes back and can’t find us?”
“You guys… sigh.” Ye Fanyu sighed. “Do you really think Mr. Su can still come back? Even if, by some miracle, he did come back, would he still be the same?”
As they were talking—creak!
The straw hut’s door opened.
Everyone froze instantly, staring warily at the doorway.
Then, they saw a man in a well-fitted suit, holding a snakewood cane and wearing amber-colored glasses, slowly walk out of the house.
“Chief!” Zhao Chaoyao and the other Viper Gang members were ecstatic.
“Don’t go over!” Ye Fanyu stopped them, staring intently at Su Mu. “Mr. Su, may I ask… are you still you?”
Su Mu smiled faintly. “Of course.”
“I knew the chief would be fine!” Zhao Chaoyao exclaimed excitedly and was about to walk over, but Ye Fanyu blocked him again.
“Wait! What proof do you have?”
Su Mu’s smile deepened. “Mr. Ye, it seems you’ve forgotten again.”
He lightly pushed up his glasses. His smile gradually faded as he said calmly, “Forgot what you are? You want me to prove myself to you? Do you even deserve that?”
Ye Fanyu’s face instantly turned as ugly as if he’d swallowed feces. Zhao Chaoyao and the others walked over to stand behind Su Mu without hesitation.
Yang Dongqing hesitated for a moment, then joined them.
“Mr. Yang, even you…” Ye Fanyu muttered.
Without turning his head, Yang Dongqing replied, “I just think that no nightmare monster could imitate this perfectly.”
Ye Fanyu’s expression grew even darker. Only Li Qiang stood nervously at his side.
Su Mu said calmly, “So, Mr. Ye, do you understand now? Whether I’m a nightmare or not doesn’t matter. What matters is… the truth is always on my side.”
“You’re calling a crowd ‘truth’?” Ye Fanyu said darkly.
Su Mu smiled slightly. “A crowd is just one form of power—and power… is truth!”
With that, he led the others back into Tingting’s house.
Li Qiang hesitated for a moment, then followed them in, leaving only Ye Fanyu with a stormy expression, standing alone for a while before finally walking in.
As soon as he entered, his eyes were drawn to Tingting, who was sitting at the table eating dumplings—or more precisely, to the dumplings.
He lunged forward and snatched the plate of dumplings from Tingting.
“That’s for Grandma!” Tingting’s lips quivered, and she looked like she was about to cry.
