The Broken Halo Chapter 149

Chapter 149: Reaching The Academy

Simon cursed the clan and himself as the bridge suddenly crumbled beneath his feet and the feet of every Initiate that ran on it.

It was so sudden, and there was nothing they could do because the bridge was long and they were at the center of the bridge.

Only those who were far behind were fortunate to not experience the fall off.

’I didn’t realize it on-time. A bridge is not meant to be here. It’s fake and was made to trick us, and we fell for it because many of us were just following the crowd and rushing.’

’But does the clan plan on making us fail? We’re all just Fiends. We can’t control our chaos until we become Archfiends, and this would make it very difficult for us to handle this fall.’

’Isn’t this too much?’

The gears in Simon’s spun as he not only had these thoughts about the clan, but was also observing his surroundings.

He had let go of the female Initiate a long time ago, and she was falling while unconscious.

Simon knew the clan was not going to let her die because it was stated in the rules of the academy.

But even if the clan allowed her to die, he wouldn’t care and would still have left her to fall while unconscious, leaving her life to fate and luck.

And even though he was a slave and she was technically his master, the clan could not hold him responsible for her death because it was not his fault the bridge suddenly crumbled.

’If I use my Chaos Wraps, I’ll be able to wrap it around one of the pillars or a narrow bridge, but I obviously can’t do that.’

Simon’s eyes flashed with a cold and calculating light, completely ignoring the screams of his classmates.

A few seconds later, he saw that he was going to barely pass a large chain that was used to anchor a platform, and a glint flashed in his eyes.

’An opportunity.’

He stretched out his hand, and a few moments later, he grabbed the edge of one of the links of the chain with his right arm.

“Fuck!”

He cursed out loud as it felt like his arm was about to get dislocated. He gritted his teeth, then he grabbed the chain with his other arm.

“Damn this.” He growled, then he pushed himself up.

But something unexpected suddenly happened.

Grab!

’The hell?!’

Simon cursed inwardly as his body was nearly dragged down from the bridge.

He looked down with anger and coldness in his eyes, then he saw that one of his classmates was clutching his left leg tightly.

This classmate of his was using him just like he was using the chain!

“Damn it! Hey! Don’t you dare let go! Climb damn it! Just fucking climb!”

Simon’s eyes flashed with a coldness that freeze an inferno, and he calmly raised his right leg and stomped at his classmate’s face.

Bam!

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?!”

Bam!

“Damn it!”

Bam!

“Stop it you damned slave!”

Bang!

“Noooooooooooo!!!! I hate you!!!!!”

Simon watched with a cold and indifferent expression as the fool fell while screaming in fury.

He was quite sturdy because Simon had enhanced his foot when smashing it on the foolish classmate of his, but he lasted four hits before letting go.

Simon calmly pulled himself up, then he looked around.

He saw that there were a few of his classmates who did the same as he did and were on the same chain like him.

Some were hanging from other chains above him, some were hanging from bridges below him, and some were hanging from platforms around him.

But many could not do this and just fell to the bottom.

Simon wasted no time observing his surroundings.

After taking a quick glance around and comparing where he was to the map in his head, he ran and continued to the academy.

Unlike before, it was not chaotic and there were no attacks coming at him.

He only passed by some of his classmates who could only stare at his back while launching insults at him, calling him a slave and all.

His heart was as a calm as a lake, and not a single ripple could be seen in it.

Because he had the lineage of a demon cat, he was extremely agile and running on this massive chain posed no problem for him.

It was like he was running on land honestly, and this pissed off many of his classmates because they were having a hard time running on the chain.

It was not stable, and it was always moving to the side because of the wind that blew from below.

There were some clan members who were watching them like they were watching a very interesting movie.

He could hear the laughter of some, the snickers of others, and the curses of some towards he and his classmates.

Apparently, some clan members made bets with people around them and well… some were about to lose their money.

Simon did not care about any of this. He ran at a speed no Lesser Demon should be capable of, but he made sure not to overdo it.

At his current level, he could match up to the speed of an average Prime Archfiend, but he made sure not to move that fast.

If he did, it would cause eyebrows to be raised.

He jumped from the chain to the platform it was connected with, ran to a bridge that went downward, ran across a causeway, took turns, and he just kept on running.

There were a few of his classmates who tried to attack him, but he merely dodged the attacks, and for those who were insistent on annoying him and delaying him, their screams echoed from below.

There were only six minutes left for Simon and his classmates to enter the doors of the academy, and when it was only three minutes left, Simon reached the academy.

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
