“I am forbidden from revealing my true identity but know that I was once a formidable warrior of my race. Someone revered by the populace. And in exchange for all the power I wielded, my Flaw was having different bodies and personalities every time I exhausted my strength.”
The woman, Pandelion, continued in the same tone.
“It works strangely. Although all my personalities are part of me, and it all feels natural to me, their memories are separate from me. Every time I overuse my powers, I turn into one of them. But this form you see right now is my true appearance.”
She paused slightly.
“My name is Zuka Pandelion.”
“And as you might have guessed, Pandelion is my family name which my other personality uses only when they trust someone.”
Awfully talkative, considering the silent persona she had shown before but I didn’t really mind because I was finally getting answers.
I already had a guess that it was some kind of Flaw but this seemed even more twisted than I expected.
Seraphina had a somewhat similar Flaw, with two personalities living inside the same body but even they shared their memories.
Then there was that Dragon Princess who turned into a male during the day but her personality remained the same throughout the transformation.
But it seemed this woman had characteristics of both while not even retaining the memories of her different personalities.
…Yeah, sounds rough.
Still, none of my business.
“You see, before Pandelion transformed into you, he promised to help me enter Rockwave, guide me around, and help me find a way to escape.”
Zuka narrowed her eyes.
Then, without warning, she moved closer to me, her massive breasts pressing against my body as she leaned in and smelled me.
Damn… She should call herself Bazooka instead of Zuka.
From the corner of my eye, I looked toward Arza to see if she had some strange expression. After all, the way she acted around me most of the time made it seem like she was in love with me.
Somehow, there wasn’t even the slightest change in her expression.
That surprised me more than the panda’s transformation but then again, she rarely showed much expression in the first place.
“What are you doing?”
Pushing those useless thoughts to the back of my mind, I stepped away. The cards I had summoned in case she attacked vanished as I realized she didn’t seem to have any intention of attacking me.
“You somehow smell… familiar?! But I can’t seem to remember where I have seen you before.” She stepped back again, still staring at me strangely.
“Maybe it’s because of Pandelion?”
I replied immediately because I sure as hell had never been here before. Nor had I ever seen this woman.
“Could be.”
“In any case, will you or will you not help us escape?” I asked the main question. “Because that was what Pandelion promised in exchange for me helping him escape.”
“I am not sure if that was what he truly promised, and even if he did, that was a deal between you and him. It doesn’t concern me.”
She continued calmly.
“You can follow me to the Rockwave, but… I don’t owe you anything beyond that. If you want me to help you escape, then give me a good reason to.”
…This bitch.
She was trying to scam me, wasn’t she?
And worse, despite knowing that, I didn’t exactly have much of a choice. I mean, I couldn’t just take her back to those Murgins and ask them to capture her again because she refused to honor someone else’s promise.
I knew I shouldn’t have trusted that damn bear without a contract.
“We will take you with us if we manage to escape. From what I heard from your other personality, the pirates have cut off all communication and travel to outer space. So if we escape, you can alert the Allied Sovereign Species organisation, and they can come help you immediately.”
Her expression turned thoughtful at my words as she stroked her chin a few times but before she could say anything, I continued.
“We can discuss the details later, but can we leave this place for now? Standing out in the open like this isn’t exactly a great idea, especially after I crashed one of the pirate ships. They will probably be searching for us soon.”
Killing her, as pleasant as that sounded right now, wouldn’t actually benefit me nearly as much as keeping her alive.
At the very least, she could lead us somewhere safe and she clearly seemed to be an enemy of those pirates.
“Yeah, that’s right.” Zuka nodded, snapping out of her thoughts. “Follow me.”
I nodded toward Arza and followed after Zuka while Arza followed behind me.
Zuka’s steps were swift as the robes around her fluttered in the wind. Her panda-like ears twitched every time there was even the slightest breeze.
Soon enough, we arrived near the crack Pandelion had pointed out before. It was hidden conspicuously between two stones, barely visible even from up close.
Zuka stopped in front of it and stretched a hand toward me.
“Grab my hand.”
She spoke without turning around.
“I can walk without holding your hand, you know.”
I replied immediately.
“I am not asking for that reason.”
She glanced back at me.
“The crack, as ordinary as it looks, is magical. Once someone enters through it, there is an entire labyrinth of mana inside. Unless you know the correct path, there is no way to predict where inside the Rockwave you’ll end up.”
She continued in the same calm tone.
“For all you know, you could get teleported straight into the headquarters of those pirates. Alone.” She extended her hand a little further. “If you don’t want that, hold my hand and tell your partner to hold yours as well.”
My eyes narrowed slightly.
I didn’t trust her completely but I didn’t want to take any chances as I grabbed her hand, while Arza grabbed mine.
Without so much as a warning, Zuka jumped straight into the crack, dragging both Arza and me along with her.
And the moment we entered…
A vast world of mana unfolded before my eyes.
But before I could even process what I was seeing, an incredibly ancient voice echoed directly inside my head.
“So… you are finally here, huh, Young Trickster?”
