Mikael was standing in the ruined garden, his eyes fixed on the green-haired elf kneeling before Alice.

Suddenly, the world around him tilted, and the ground beneath his feet vanished.

For a heartbeat, he was weightless as the air rushed past his ears.

It was almost as if an invisible hand had seized him by the collar, yanking him sideways through reality itself.

He blinked hard as the garden blurred into streaks of green and shadow.

Before he knew it, his feet hit the solid ground as he stumbled a step before catching himself.

He was inside a large, high-ceilinged room lined with low beds and shelves stacked with vials and bandages.

It was the palace’s infirmary.

Mikael was sure he’d seen two figures’ arrival just before everything twisted….

One of them was unmistakably King Alistar, and the other was an old man wearing a simple mage robe.

They must have been the ones responsible.

The ones who had pulled him, Elara, and Alice out of the garden and deposited them here in the infirmary.

Before he could gather his thoughts more, the room erupted into chaos.

A healer in a white robe let out a startled yelp when he saw three bloodied figures materialize out of thin air in the center of the infirmary.

The man fumbled the tray of vials he’d been carrying and nearly dropped it on the floor.

But somehow he managed to set it down on the nearest table, producing the loud sound of the clattering vials.

“What in the name of the Lord of Light—?!”

His protest died in his throat the moment his gaze fell on the two princesses.

“Your Highnesses! What happened? Are you—” His face went pale as he spun towards the door. “I need assistance! Now! All available healers to the main ward! It’s an emergency!”

The response was immediate as footsteps thundered down the hallway, and within seconds, the room was swarming with white-robed figures.

Healers reached for them from every direction as someone took Alice from Elara’s arms while another pressed a cloth to the wound on Mikael’s stomach.

Their voices overlapped in a frantic symphony of medical jargon and urgent instructions.

Mikael let them guide him to a cot.

He didn’t even have the energy to walk on his own and his legs gave out the moment he reached the edge of the bed.

He sank on it as his vision swam from the blood loss.

The senior healer—a woman with silver-streaked hair and sharp black eyes—took charge of him almost immediately.

Her hands moved with practiced efficiency as she began assessing his wounds, her lips pressed into a thin, disapproving line.

“This one’s the worst.” She called over her shoulder. “Multiple lacerations, deep tissue damage, possible internal bleeding. Bring me the diagnostic crystal and more bandages.”

Mikael sat in silence as she worked, his mind drifting somewhere far away.

The pain had become a dull, constant throb that pulsed through his entire body as the exhaustion pressed down on him like a physical weight.

“Young lord.” The healer called him out.

He blinked, dragging himself back to the present.

The healer frowned at him as her black eyes flickered with the soft glow of a diagnostic spell.

“You’ve had healing magic used on you recently.” she said. “Quite a lot of it, actually. I’m detecting traces of at least two separate high-grade healing spells in your system.”

Mikael nodded.

“Two times.”

“Two times.” she repeated. “And when did these occur?”

Mikael didn’t answer immediately…. after the pause, he said.

“Since yesterday.”

The healer raised an eyebrow.

“Since yesterday, you managed to acquire two… no, three serious injuries that required high-tier healing magic?”

“Yes.”

“….”

“….”

The healer stared at him, her expression caught somewhere between disbelief and clinical concern.

Mikael felt Elara’s gaze from across the room.

She was sitting on her own cot, her eyes fixed on him while a young healer worked on the cuts along her arms.

She wasn’t being subtle about it.

Her attention flicked toward him every few seconds, her ears tuned to the conversation.

He didn’t look at her.

The senior healer sighed, apparently deciding not to pry into the cause of the injuries.

“Young Lord, using multiple high-grade healing spells in rapid succession at your current rank is not advisable. Your body may suffer from essence saturation. If I use another strong healing spell now, it could do more harm than good.”

She paused, studying his face.

“I can use a minor healing spell instead. It will stop the worst of the bleeding and encourage your body’s natural recovery, but the deeper wounds will need time to close on their own. Is that acceptable? I can still use a stronger spell if you insist, but I strongly recommend against it.”

Mikael shook his head. “Minor healing spell is fine.”

“Good choice.” Some of the tension eased from her shoulders. “Come back tomorrow. By then, your body should be able to tolerate a stronger spell if it’s still needed.”

He nodded. “Okay.”

“Very well. Hold still, please.”

She raised her hands as the green nature-affinity magic circle formed above her palm.

The light spread over his wounds like warm water, seeping into the torn flesh and coaxing the edges of the gashes closed.

The pain dulled as it shifted from sharp agony to a dull ache.

“That should do for now.” The healer lowered her hands and reached for a roll of clean bandages. “I’ll need to wrap these properly. Please remove your upper clothing.”

Mikael’s hands moved to the buttons of his ruined coat, then glanced toward Elara’s cot, where the princess was still being treated, then back at the healer.

The healer raised an eyebrow. “Is there a problem?”

He opened his mouth, then closed it again.

Shouldn’t he be more mindful with two princesses in the room?

But arguing felt like too much effort, and the question was already tangling into something more exhausting than it was worth.

With a quiet sigh, he wordlessly peeled off the tattered remains of his coat and shirt.

The fabric came away sticky with blood as he grimaced at the uncomfortable sensation.

The healer began wrapping the bandages around his torso with precision, covering the wounds with layers of clean white cloth.

Across the room, Elara looked away.

Alice had fallen asleep almost immediately after being placed on her bed.

The little girl’s face was peaceful in slumber, the terror of the garden replaced by the soft slackness of exhaustion.

One of the healers had pulled a light blanket over her, and she curled into it like a cat seeking warmth.

“She’s okay, your highness.” The healer attending Alice noticed Elara’s lingering gaze and offered a small, reassuring smile. “She’s just exhausted. Her body needs rest more than anything else. The scrapes and bruises were minor– I have already healed them.”

Elara nodded, some of the tension finally easing from her shoulders.

After the bandages were tied off and the healers had done all they could, the senior healer stepped back as she surveyed her work with a critical eye.

“You should rest as well, young lord.” she said. “Your body has been through significant trauma. I’d advise against any strenuous activity.”

She paused as she gave him a pointed look.

“And I’d strongly recommend avoiding any more life-threatening situations in the near future.”

“I’ll try my best.”

She didn’t look convinced, but she let it go as she gathered her supplies, and she gestured for the other staff to follow her.

They filed out quietly as the door clicked shut behind them, leaving the three of them alone.

For a long while… no one spoke.

The only sound in the room was the soft ticking of a clock.

.

.

.

Finally, Elara broke the silence.

“I never got the chance to thank you properly.” she said in a formal voice like a princess rather than a friend.

She didn’t look at him as she spoke, her gaze fixed on the wall. “Thank you for saving Alice. If you weren’t there then…”

She trailed off, the sentence unfinished but heavy with all the things she couldn’t bring herself to say.

“I owe you a debt that—”

“You don’t owe me anything, princess.” Mikael cut her off without looking at her. “You saved my life, too. If you hadn’t been there, drawing most of the aberration’s attention, I would have died in the first minute. Consider us even.”

Elara opened her mouth, a retort or maybe a protest forming on her lips, but before she could speak…

The door swung open as Queen Lavania and Jeanne walked inside.

"Shit, why this guy!?" Of all the characters he could've transmigrated as, it had to be the worst playable character. Mikael Morwell. Zen Ashcroft, an ordinary software engineer with a boring but beloved life, finds himself hurled into his favorite game, Eclipsed Realm. A brutal dark fantasy RPG he used to play in his college years, infamous for its punishing difficulty and branching storyline with multiple playable protagonists across the shattered continent of Aetheris. The game was already hard enough with its multiple playable characters. But on the game's third anniversary, the developers decided to release a free DLC as a gift to the community. And a middle finger to anyone who claimed the game wasn't hard enough. They introduced a bonus protagonist with the tagline: [Some fates are not meant to be survived] A joke character, Mikael Morwell. The worst playable character in the entire game. A route so brutally designed that the forums turned him into a meme and most players never even bothered finishing his story. And that's not even the worst part? Zen never played his route. The DLC had dropped after he graduated, and he had already buried himself in overtime shifts and deadlines. He never got the chance to play DLC. "....Yea, I'm fucked." Now with no knowledge of Mikael's routes and no idea how to get home, Zen must survive a story he never played.
