Emperor Gorgon Medusa?
That title practically answered all of the Weaver Girl’s questions.
Why did Medusa wield Zeus’s lightning spear and Poseidon’s trident?
Because they had all been killed by Medusa.
The beautiful maiden’s head embedded in Medusa’s shield had to be Athena, right?
Why was Medusa’s soul-summoning value as high as 1900%, yet no envoy from the Underworld had come to take her away?
Because Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, had also been killed by her.
Dong Qianqiu had a bad feeling about this. In that case, didn’t that make Medusa the most powerful “Grand Pivot” they had ever seen?
“Retract your divine powers,” the Queen Mother of the West said. “I will take you to see Du Yu.”
The Queen Mother of the West frowned. “I thought I had already given you enough face.”
“No, the way I see it, you are afraid.”
“Afraid?”
As soon as her voice fell, the Queen Mother of the West took a step forward. A massive gale whipped up instantly, and the entire ground began to quake. The assembled immortals felt as though a mountain was pressing down on them, requiring every ounce of their strength just to remain standing. The sky above the Underworld filled with dense, dark clouds, and the faint rumble of thunder echoed throughout the realm of the dead.
The cloud layer in the sky gradually thickened. Even Taishang Laojun had never seen such ominous clouds before; they felt so low that one could reach out and touch them, with every single cloud crackling with thunder.
No one could have imagined that they would witness an apocalyptic scene right here in the Underworld.
“Behold the thunder,” the Queen Mother of the West said slowly.
The sky flashed violently. Aside from a sparse few immortals like Taishang Laojun, everyone else dropped to their knees with a heavy thud.
Even Medusa was pinned down by the oppressive aura, rendered completely immobile and forced flat against the ground.
An aura of absolute terror spread out in all directions. Thunder rolled incessantly across the sky, threatening to strike down at any given moment.
Lightning flashed in the eyes of the Queen Mother of the West. Streaks of thunderbolts orbited her body, shattering the floor tiles beneath her feet.
“I told you to retract your divine powers. Was I not clear enough?”
Only then did Medusa realize just how utterly insignificant she was compared to the woman before her. She hurriedly said, “P-please forgive my insolence.”
Medusa slowly reverted to her human form, stowing away her various divine artifacts.
The terrifying pressure crushing everyone instantly vanished. Many immortals scrambled to their feet, their hearts filled with lingering dread.
Medusa raised her head and looked at the Queen Mother of the West with keen interest. “Tell me… can you die?”
The Queen Mother of the West paused, her own interest piqued. “For the foreseeable future, I will not die.”
“Excellent.” Medusa took another step forward. “Once I become stronger, can I kill you?”
“Kill me?” The Queen Mother of the West gave Medusa a profound look. “Do you realize what you are saying?”
“Of course.” Medusa smiled back at her. “I am challenging the God-Monarch of Huaxia.”
The surrounding immortals were too terrified to even breathe. Did Medusa think she had lived too long?
“I accept.” For the first time, the Queen Mother of the West smiled, nodding at Medusa. “I will be waiting in the Heavenly Court. You are welcome to try and kill me anytime.”
“Wonderful!” Medusa smiled happily, then added, “Please lead the way. I wish to see my benefactor.”
The Queen Mother of the West turned and led Medusa into the “Legend Broadcast Room.” The immortals hurriedly followed.
Dong Qianqiu immediately went to the screen to check on Du Yu’s situation.
“Du Yu, how are things on your end?” Dong Qianqiu asked.
Du Yu pondered with a troubled expression for a moment before replying, “How should I describe it… Right now, I am reminded of an ancient poem.”
“An ancient poem? What poem?”
“Amidst the scent of rice blossoms, speaking of a bountiful year, all I hear is a chorus calling out ‘Mom’.”
Helplessly, Du Yu pointed to his side, where a massive crowd of babies was standing. It seemed that during this brief period, Izanagi and Izanami had been reproducing like crazy.
“Du Yu… though I want to correct your misquote of that poem… it seems your version is much more fitting for the current situation…”
Through Shiranui Asuka’s introduction, Dong Qianqiu got a general understanding of this “pile” of gods.
In the first wave of births, aside from Ohokoto-oshio-no-kami, there were Iwatsuchibiko-no-kami, Iwasuhime-no-kami, Ohatohiwake-no-kami, Amenofukio-no-kami, Oyabiko-no-kami, Kazamotsuwake-no-oshio-no-kami, Ohonatsumi-no-kami, Haya-akitsuhiko-no-kami, and Haya-akitsuhime-no-kami. A total of ten gods.
In the second wave, there were Awanagi-no-kami, Awanami-no-kami, Tsuranagi-no-kami, Tsuranami-no-kami, Ame-no-mikumari-no-kami, Kuni-no-mikumari-no-kami, Ame-no-kuhizamochi-no-kami, and Kuni-no-kuhizamochi-no-kami. A total of eight gods.
Supposedly, after giving birth to these eighteen gods, Izanagi and Izanami took a break for a few minutes before diving right back into the production line without stopping.
They gave birth to the wind god, Shinatobe-no-kami; the tree god, Kukunochi-no-kami; the mountain god, Oyamatsumi-no-kami; and the field goddess, Kayanohime-no-kami. A total of four gods.
Dong Qianqiu was completely dumbfounded listening to all this. Who would have thought that this massive horde of gods was just popped out by Izanagi and Izanami like a string of firecrackers?
“Little Sister Asuka, please stop. Even if you tell me, I won’t be able to remember them all…” Dong Qianqiu tried to stop Shiranui Asuka, but Asuka shook her head.
“Senior Broadcaster, these are the pantheon of gods that our Fusang takes pride in. I haven’t even finished yet.”
Dong Qianqiu sighed. It still wasn’t over?
“Yeah, yeah,” Du Yu chimed in grumpily from the side. “There are over thirty of them, so it’s definitely not over. Sister Qianqiu, do you know? Even Asuka herself can’t remember the names of all these gods, nor can she distinguish what exactly they all do. She made a cheat sheet and is reading off it as she recites them to me.”
Shiranui Asuka immediately resumed her introductions, even though she had no idea which god matched which name she was reading.
Izanagi and Izanami then gave birth to Ame-no-sazuchi-no-kami, followed by Kuni-no-sazuchi-no-kami, then Ame-no-sagiri-no-kami, followed by Kuni-no-sagiri-no-kami, then Ame-no-kurado-no-kami, followed by Kuni-no-kurado-no-kami, then O-tomato-hiko-no-kami, followed by O-tomato-hime-no-kami. A total of eight gods.
“H-how impressive…” Dong Qianqiu laughed awkwardly. “That’s a lot of gods.”
“Excuse me, I’m still not finished.”
“Oh, dear god…”
“Just now, two more gods were born. One is called Tori-no-Iwakusufune-no-kami, also known as Ame-no-Torifune, and then they gave birth to Ogetsuhime-no-kami.”
“How impressive…” Dong Qianqiu offered an awkward, placating smile.
“Isn’t our Fusang legend amazing?”
Du Yu and Dong Qianqiu both couldn’t bear to burst her bubble. What kind of country just relies on a single legend to give birth to the majority of its gods? And most of them were born in such a hasty, slapdash manner… Dong Qianqiu did the math. In just the short while she had been away, Izanagi and Izanami had already produced thirty-two gods.
Even looking at ordinary humans, they couldn’t possibly give birth to this many children in a single lifetime, right?
Oh right, Dong Qianqiu suddenly remembered—they had also given birth to fourteen islands.
“Du Yu, I have something to tell you,” Dong Qianqiu said with a serious tone.
“What’s wrong?” Du Yu asked. “You’re rarely this serious.”
“The God-Monarch of the Greek Domain, Medusa, has arrived. She says she’s looking for you.”
“Oh?” Du Yu was taken aback. “The Gorgon survived?”
“Survived? Du Yu, I don’t know why she suddenly came looking for you, but as the saying goes, ‘one doesn’t visit a temple without a reason’. She must have an ulterior motive for dropping by out of nowhere.”
Du Yu stared blankly, as if he hadn’t understood.
“Wait, Sister Qianqiu, are you trying to build suspense for me? I saved her previously and left my contact information. If she survived, she would naturally come looking for me.”
“Du Yu, I’m talking to you about serious business. Don’t interrupt me with nonsense.”
“Huh?” Du Yu frowned. He sensed a bizarre sense of discordance in this situation. “Sister Qianqiu… you think I’m… interrupting you with nonsense?”
“Yes. Medusa has ruled the Greek Domain for thousands of years; why would she need you to save her? I suggest you hold off on returning until we figure out her true intentions.”
“Haha.” Du Yu let out an awkward laugh. “Sister Qianqiu, stop messing with me. Didn’t I just save Medusa right in front of all of you?”
Du Yu’s words left all the immortals bewildered. Dong Qianqiu simply felt as though certain memories had suddenly vanished from her mind.
The Queen Mother of the West turned to look at the Weaver Girl and asked, “Weaver Girl, did I miss a scene just now? That boy Du Yu saved Medusa?”
A sudden flash went off in the Weaver Girl’s mind. She frowned, looking quite strange, as if she were concealing something.
“Your Highness… I thought I remembered such a thing just a moment ago, but thinking about it carefully, it doesn’t seem to have ever happened. Medusa has ruled the Greek Domain for millennia. She is incredibly powerful and shouldn’t need a mortal like Du Yu to save her.”
Feeling puzzled, Du Yu turned to look at Zhan Qisheng, Qu Xi, and the others, asking, “Do you guys… remember me saving Medusa just now?”
“Of course,” Qu Xi nodded. “How is she doing now?”
Zhan Qisheng also asked thoughtfully, “Did the Gorgon survive?”
“Senior Du Yu, what’s wrong? Is there news from the Greek Domain?”
The confusion in Du Yu’s heart only deepened. It was as if the inside and outside of the legend had split into two completely different worlds, and the memories of both sides had diverged.
“I don’t know if you’ll believe this…” Du Yu said hesitantly. “But the people outside the legend seem to have forgotten that it ever happened…”
“Forgotten?” Zhan Qisheng narrowed his eyes, as if a thought had occurred to him. He quietly took a step forward and asked, “Dong Qianqiu, do you remember who ‘Zeus’ is?”
“Zeus?” Dong Qianqiu stared blankly. “Are you referring to a god from Fusang or a god from the Greek Domain?”
Zhan Qisheng looked back at Du Yu with a grave expression and said, “If my guess is correct, not only did Medusa survive, but she has also caused a massive impact on this world. Aside from the ‘Operators’ and a few others with special constitutions, everyone else only remembers the history brought about by ‘Medusa’.”
“Du Yu, Zhan Qisheng, what are you two talking about? Why can’t I understand a word of it?” Dong Qianqiu was a bit bewildered.
“Dong Qianqiu, a ‘Flashback’ has occurred,” Zhan Qisheng said.
“A ‘Flashback’?!” Dong Qianqiu was stunned, as if she hadn’t heard those words in a very long time. She quickly came to her senses. “So what Du Yu just said was true?”
Du Yu looked at Zhan Qisheng in confusion. There was actually a technical term for this kind of situation?
