Legend Management Bureau Chapter 177
Flooding jinshan temple[ … words ]
[ … words ]
Du Yu didn’t say another word. He grabbed Xu Xian and Fa Hai, dragging them toward the outskirts of the city.
“Hui Jing, what happened?”
“Master, you were too careless!” Du Yu exclaimed. “We could have slipped away unnoticed, but now Bai Suzhen is going to find out!”
“Are you saying…” Fa Hai furrowed his brows. “That white snake will try to stop us?”
“I can’t say for sure… Anyway, let’s hurry up and leave!”
…
Just as Du Yu expected, the news of Xu Xian heading to Jinshan Temple to become a monk spread like wildfire, quickly reaching Bai Suzhen’s ears.
Bai Suzhen had never imagined a person could be so despicable. To lie to her and hide the truth time and time again, only to then show up at her door with a self-righteous attitude to demand answers—it was simply unforgivable.
Meanwhile, Medusa sat in the corner, studying the script.
Medusa silently read the script written in ancient Greek, her face filled with confusion. The chapter was titled “The Flood Submerges the Monks’ Temple on the Mountain Made of Gold.” She had no idea who translated it, but it was incredibly awkward to read.
“Do Chinese people even understand ancient Greek grammar?” Medusa muttered, snapping the script shut in frustration.
“Sister, I can no longer endure this. I must go and bring my husband back.” After pondering for a long while, Bai Suzhen stood up and spoke solemnly to Medusa.
“Bring him back?” Medusa was a bit baffled. “Why do you need to bring him back? Didn’t he go to become a monk?”
“Uh…” Bai Suzhen paused. “Sister, you might not be familiar with the ways of the world, so you don’t understand. If Xu Xian becomes a monk, he can no longer be my husband.”
“How strange.” Medusa looked earnestly at Bai Suzhen and murmured to herself, “Isn’t becoming a monk just going to study magic? What does that have to do with being married…”
Watching Medusa’s reaction from afar at the Legend Management Bureau, Dong Qianqiu suddenly had a realization. Empress Medusa had been the ruler of the Greek divine realm for thousands of years; naturally, she wouldn’t understand ancient Chinese customs. If the Queen Mother of the West were sent to ancient Greece, it would likely be just as jarring.
Bai Suzhen seemed oblivious to Medusa’s muttering and continued, “But that monk’s fire-attribute cultivation technique is incredibly powerful, and his cultivation base is far above mine… If we don’t find a way to counter him, it will be impossible to fight back.”
Shiranui Asuka, who was currently at the counter learning how to use an abacus, overheard Bai Suzhen. As if suddenly remembering something, she chimed in, “Sister Bai, don’t worry. If you want to counter fire-attribute techniques, you can just ‘flood Jinshan Temple’.”
“F-Flood Jinshan Temple?” Bai Suzhen was startled. “Sister Xiang, you don’t practice magic, so you probably don’t realize how tall Jinshan is or how massive the temple is. No one could possibly pull off such a feat.”
“Sister Bai… you… can’t do it?” Shiranui Asuka felt that the current situation was deviating slightly from the script she had been given.
“Of course I can’t do it!” Bai Suzhen sighed. “Although I practice water-attribute spells, I can only use water vapor to injure people. To submerge an entire mountain… such a terrifying spectacle is something only an ‘Immortal’ could achieve.”
Dong Qianqiu paused. That was right! Bai Suzhen hadn’t taken an Immortal as her master, so her magic simply wasn’t that powerful.
How could an ordinary water-attribute cultivator drown a mountain?
Was she supposed to rely on regular rain-summoning spells? How long would that take to flood Jinshan?
Medusa took a slow breath, looked at Shiranui Asuka, and asked, “Miss Xiang, is my commoner sister… supposed to submerge that mountain?”
Shiranui Asuka chose her words very carefully, replying, “Yes, according to certain ‘rules,’ Sister Bai really should flood that mountain.”
Bai Suzhen was confused again. It felt as though Xiao Qing and A’Xiang were long-lost sisters who had known each other forever, making her feel like an outsider in her own home.
Medusa suddenly stood up and asked, “What is the name of this mountain you speak of?”
“Jinshan,” Bai Suzhen answered.
“The mountain made of gold?” Medusa seemed to connect the dots. “Are there monks and a temple on that mountain?”
“Yes,” Bai Suzhen nodded. “Fa Hai is taking Xu Xian there to become a monk.”
“And you… cannot submerge that mountain, right?”
“Right…”
Medusa suddenly burst into laughter. “The Flood Submerges the Monks’ Temple on the Mountain Made of Gold… Wonderful! I finally have a chance to show what I can do!”
Bai Suzhen and Shiranui Asuka were stunned. The situation was dire, so why was she so thrilled?
“Commoner sister, just go to that golden mountain. I will personally drown it in water.” Medusa flipped her left hand, and an ocean-blue trident materialized in her grasp.
“Sister… you, you actually possess such divine power?”
Medusa scoffed coldly and replied, “If I had understood that damned translation earlier, I would have used this power long ago.”
Bai Suzhen still didn’t quite grasp it, but since Xiao Qing said so, she definitely wouldn’t deceive her.
“Sister, in that case, I will truly have to rely on your strength!”
…
Du Yu and the other two sat on Fa Hai’s kasaya, speeding toward Jinshan Temple as if fleeing for their lives.
Along the way, Du Yu kept asking Dong Qianqiu about the upcoming plot, his expression grave.
“So you’re saying, Sister Qianqiu, that the current plot is basically identical to what’s recorded in the legend?”
“I wouldn’t say ‘basically’ identical… Looking solely at the outcome, it should be exactly the same…” Dong Qianqiu couldn’t help but admire Du Yu a little. If he hadn’t accidentally sent Medusa into this legend, things probably wouldn’t be going so smoothly.
“Exactly the same?” Du Yu gritted his teeth. “Then what happens next?”
“Next… upon learning that Xu Xian is heading to Jinshan Temple to become a monk, Bai Suzhen will unleash her heaven-defying magic, summoning the waters of the five lakes, four seas, and three rivers. This is known as the Flooding of Jinshan Temple.”
“Are you saying that Bai Suzhen is about to come charging at us with a massive tsunami of sea water, lake water, and river water?”
“Uh… the situation is a bit unexpected this time. Bai Suzhen doesn’t actually possess such powerful magic. The one summoning the waters of the lakes and seas is Medusa instead… but the result is the same.”
“Damn it…” Du Yu paused. “Right, Medusa does have the ‘Trident of the Sea God’. Even though the Gorgon has been a huge help, if a magical battle of this scale really breaks out, A’Xiang and I will definitely be in danger!”
“The danger doesn’t stop there,” Dong Qianqiu said grimly. “According to the legend, the threat to Jinshan Temple isn’t just the ‘water’, but also the hundred thousand shrimp soldiers and crab generals within it.”
“Huh?! Is Bai Suzhen really that ruthless? Sending a hundred thousand shrimp soldiers and crab generals to gang up and stomp on Fa Hai alone? And she still couldn’t win after all that?”
“Of course it’s not a hundred thousand against one. In many versions of the legend, Fa Hai summoned a hundred thousand celestial soldiers and generals to fight the shrimp and crab forces…”
Hearing this, Du Yu wanted to throw in the towel completely. What the hell? This is a battlefield of two hundred thousand people?
“Wait a minute, Sister Qianqiu? Fa Hai isn’t the Queen Mother of the West. How could he possibly summon a hundred thousand celestial troops?!”
“But that’s exactly what the legend says… I honestly don’t know the exact process. This is the first time I’ve studied Bai Suzhen’s legend in detail.”
“Forget it, we’ll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it!”
Upon returning to the temple, Du Yu didn’t have time to greet anyone. He immediately locked Xu Xian in a tall pagoda and urged Fa Hai to prepare ‘flood control supplies’.
“Hui Jing… what exactly are these ‘sandbags’ you’re talking about for?” Fa Hai asked in confusion.
“Master! Instead of wasting time asking me, you should be getting all the martial brothers to start preparing. A massive flood is coming right now!”
Although Fa Hai was highly perplexed, seeing Hui Jing’s frantic expression made him anxious as well. He quickly gave the order, instructing all the monks in the temple to immediately find empty cloth sacks and fill them with sand.
“Empty sacks aren’t enough, Master! Tell all the brothers to tear open their bedding and stuff those with sand too!”
“Ah?” Fa Hai hesitated. “Hui Jing, although I trust you, we can’t just burn our bridges like this. If we destroy our bedding, how will we sleep in the future?”
“If we don’t hold the line, they won’t have a future!” Du Yu said anxiously. “Oh, right, Master, do you have any connections with the celestial troops up in heaven? Tell them to get ready; they need to descend to the mortal realm soon.”
“Hui Jing, do you have a fever?” Fa Hai furrowed his brows. “I am but an ordinary cultivator; how would I know celestial troops? Even if I were lucky enough to know one, why would they obey my commands to descend to the mortal realm?”
“Okay, pretty much what I expected. Never mind then.” Du Yu sighed. If a fight really broke out later, Medusa wouldn’t hurt him, but what about those a hundred thousand pieces of seafood?
Suddenly, another thought struck Du Yu… If Fa Hai had no way to summon a hundred thousand celestial troops, could Medusa really summon a hundred thousand shrimp and crab soldiers?
That obviously didn’t make sense either.
At that moment, a young monk ran over and called out to Du Yu, “Senior Brother Hui Jing, we’ve prepared the sandbags as requested. Where should we put them?”
Du Yu thought about it carefully. The events in these legends rarely went exactly as he anticipated, so it was best to stick to the plan and prepare for the flood.
“Stack all the sandbags at the entrances—every room’s doorway, the temple gates, and the entrance to the pagoda where Xu Xian is. Make sure the water can’t easily flood inside!”
The monks hurriedly carried hundreds of sandbags and began placing them.
Right then, Fa Hai slightly furrowed his brows. He seemed to hear a massive rumbling sound.
However, looking around, he only saw a dense fog in the distance, obscuring the situation completely.
Du Yu heard the noise as well. He sprinted to the temple gates and peered into the distance. A thick fog had suddenly rolled in from afar, which was highly peculiar.
The thunderous roar drew closer and closer. The monks in the temple all stepped out of their rooms, looking toward the horizon in confusion.
“It’s here!” Du Yu said grimly.
It wasn’t until the deafening sound was practically on top of them that everyone realized the distant haze wasn’t fog at all—it was a towering, hundred-meter-tall tidal wave. Standing atop the crashing surf were two figures, one dressed in white and the other in green.
Fa Hai’s expression froze in shock before he roared, “Who dares disturb my Jinshan Temple?”
The figure in green, wielding an ocean-blue weapon, continuously guided the direction of the surging waters, and a thunderous shout echoed through the air:
“I am Empress Xiao Qing! I command you to immediately release my brother-in-law!”
