Legend Management Bureau Chapter 262

“You… you know?” Du Yu asked Xing Tian, his eyes wide.
“Of course. Even if others do not know, did you think I would be blind to it?” Xing Tian scratched his head. “That is exactly why I am so frustrated. Why else do you think I refuse to let her accompany me to the battlefield?”
Only then did Du Yu realize that everything this burly man did was to protect the young Houtu.
“But it really puts me in a tough spot. That stinky girl copies me in every way, from how I walk to how I speak…” Xing Tian shook his head helplessly. “She actually thinks that by abandoning magic and mastering purely physical martial arts, she can follow me to the battlefield. She thinks that disguising herself as a man all these years means she can go kill the enemy… But she is still just a little girl. If her face gets slashed, how will she ever get married?”
Hearing Xing Tian say this, Du Yu felt a bit conflicted.
It seemed the relationship between the two already had a solid foundation.
What made things even more difficult was that although Xing Tian appeared careless and rough, he was actually quite sensitive on the inside. For someone like him, a mere “misunderstanding” would absolutely not be enough to sever their bond.
“Um… Big Brother, my name is Little Sage,” Du Yu said. “How should I address you?”
Xing Tian looked at Du Yu and replied, “I do not have a name.”
“I cannot remember my surname, either. I only recall that when I was very young, I was born into the Zhan Clan, but that tribe was eradicated long ago. Now, I have taken the surname Jiang, following the Great High Father.”
“Uh…” Du Yu was somewhat puzzled. There was clearly nothing wrong with this legend, so why was Xing Tian not called Xing Tian?
“Why are you asking all this?” Xing Tian asked, staring intently at Du Yu.
“Oh, no reason. I just felt that we hit it off, Big Brother. Would you like to come inside and sit for a while?” Du Yu offered with an accompanying smile. “My friends and I just arrived at the Jiang Tribe, and there are still many things we do not understand. We could really use your guidance.”
Xing Tian pondered for a moment, then turned his head to look off into the distance, staring at something unknown. After a while, he finally spoke, “Alright.”
Hearing Xing Tian agree, Du Yu quickly turned around, pushed the door open, and invited the burly man inside.
Xing Tian had not expected to find seven other people sitting inside the room, and he was momentarily startled.
It was also everyone else’s first time meeting Xing Tian, making the atmosphere slightly tense.
“They are all my tribesmen…” Du Yu explained.
Xing Tian gave a slight nod and sized up the seven people sitting in the room. His gaze eventually came to rest on Xie Yujiao.
Xie Yujiao looked at Xing Tian with a puzzled expression before asking, “What are you looking at? Staring at a woman like that is incredibly rude!”
At that moment, Du Yu acutely sensed a wave of killing intent radiating from Xing Tian beside him.
‘Oh no!’
Although Du Yu did not know what was happening, he took a step forward, intending to shield Xie Yujiao.
At the exact same time, Xing Tian furrowed his brows and instantly drew the massive bronze axe strapped to his back, swinging it out in one fluid motion. This giant axe, which looked like it weighed hundreds of kilograms, was as light as a small wooden twig in his hands. He swung it with such ferocious speed that the handle of the bronze axe actually bent slightly.
Even though the others sitting nearby were not slow to react and all made their moves in succession, none of them could match Xing Tian’s speed.
Xing Tian’s axe came to a dead halt right against Xie Yujiao’s neck. Because the weapon was so incredibly heavy, Xie Yujiao felt as if her collarbone was about to be crushed beneath its weight.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Du Yu hurriedly stepped forward and grabbed Xing Tian’s arm to pull him back, only to find that the man standing before him was like a stone statue—unyielding and completely motionless no matter how hard he tugged.
“Big Brother, what are you doing?” Du Yu asked. “My tribeswoman just made a minor complaint about you, didn’t she? Isn’t this reaction a bit too extreme?”
Acting as if he had not heard a word Du Yu said, Xing Tian stared quietly at Xie Yujiao and slowly spat out a few words. “You Si… you certainly made yourself hard to find…”
“You Si?”
Everyone in the room froze, and Xie Yujiao herself was visibly taken aback.
“Who is You Si? My name is Xie Yujiao!” she retorted, furrowing her brows. “Remove this giant axe at once, sir! What kind of skill is it to bully a weak woman like me?!”
Hearing her response, Xing Tian visibly hesitated. The woman in front of him did seem a bit different from the woman in his memories.
“What did you say your name was?” Xing Tian asked coldly.
“My name is Xie Yujiao!” A trace of pain flickered across Xie Yujiao’s face. The axe pressing down on her shoulder was simply far too heavy.
Noticing this, Du Yu quickly rushed over to help her brace against the weapon. This axe was so heavy that he needed to borrow the combined strength of Zhongli Chun and Chada just to barely move it.
“Big Brother, if you want to interrogate her, can you take this axe away first? What if you accidentally hurt someone…” Du Yu said through gritted teeth.
“You… you really are not You Si?” Xing Tian asked, his brows knitted together.
“I have gone by many names, but You Si has never been one of them!”
Hearing Xie Yujiao say this, Xing Tian’s expression finally softened a little. “That is true. You lack that strange, eerie aura that You Si possesses…”
With that said, he gave the axe a light toss and instantly strapped it back onto his back. It looked as effortless as tossing a piece of paper.
Du Yu breathed a sigh of relief, though he was still quite badly spooked.
“Big Brother, what was that all about?” Du Yu asked. “Does she look like your ex-girlfriend or something?”
“Brother Little Sage, your tribeswoman looks exactly like one of my sworn enemies,” Xing Tian explained. “It is just that the aura around the two of them is different, and your tribeswoman seems to have a purer and kinder disposition. I was in the wrong this time. I apologize to you all.”
Du Yu could not help but feel that his apology sounded rather odd. He said he was apologizing, but his attitude was far too domineering for it.
However, since the War God Xing Tian had apologized, they naturally could not give him a hard time. For a primeval god of his caliber, even if all seven of them joined forces, they might not be able to do anything to him.
Right now, two things were weighing heavily on Du Yu’s mind.
One was naturally the “You Si” that Xing Tian had mentioned, and the other was the bronze axe strapped to Xing Tian’s back.
Before entering the legend, he had specifically asked Dong Qianqiu about this era.
The era of the Yan Emperor and Yellow Emperor was the Neolithic Age, yet Xing Tian was carrying a giant axe forged of bronze during the “New Stone Age”. Compared to everyone else’s stone weapons, it was practically a dimensional strike of overpowering superiority.
Xing Tian’s face did not look too good at the moment. His expression kept shifting, as if he were recalling some very unpleasant memories. Not long after, he turned his back and declared to the group, “I have other matters to attend to. I will take my leave now.”
“Hmm?” Du Yu stepped forward and grabbed Xing Tian’s arm. “Big Brother, weren’t you going to chat with us? You’re leaving already?”
Xing Tian turned his head, reevaluating Du Yu before asking, “You people are not here to seek refuge, are you?”
“What makes you say that?”
“The auras on all of you are entirely different. You clearly do not come from the same tribe. If I had not sensed a lack of malice from you, I would have sent you packing long ago,” Xing Tian said coldly.
The group finally realized that Xing Tian had seen right through them. Deciding not to hide it anymore, Du Yu spoke up, “We truly bear no malice. Although our motives for seeking refuge this time are not purely innocent, we have no intention of harming anyone.”
“I do not care who you harm, but if you dare to do anything detrimental to the Great High Father or Houtu, I will make sure you suffer the consequences.”
Hearing Xing Tian say this, Du Yu had a sinking feeling that things were going to be a bit tricky.
At that moment, Xie Yujiao spoke up, asking Xing Tian, “Big guy, do you like Houtu?”
Xing Tian clearly had not expected to be asked such a question and looked somewhat bewildered.
“Why should I answer you? How long have we even known each other?”
Xie Yujiao was obviously a little displeased. She countered, “If you like her, then you should take responsibility for her. What is the point of constantly rejecting her?”
“I…” Xing Tian faltered for a second before his brows snapped together. “What does it have to do with any of you?”
With that said, the towering man stormed out of the house in a huff.
The rest of the group remained in the room, enveloped in a somewhat heavy silence.
“Senior Du Yu, what should we do next?” Shiranui Asuka asked.
“There are still plenty of questionable points,” Du Yu told the group. “In a moment, we will split up and gather some information. Let’s meet back here in about an hour. There are eight of us in total, so we will form groups of two. Focus on investigating the matter between Xing Tian and Houtu, and remember not to arouse anyone’s suspicion.”
After organizing the groups, Du Yu and the others left the house, heading in different directions.
Initially, he had planned to pair A’xiang with Jin Jianglang, but after thinking it over, Du Yu was still a bit uneasy. Ultimately, he decided to bring A’xiang along with himself and left Jin Jianglang to protect Xiao Nian.
He had only one requirement for A’xiang—talk less.
“Senior Du Yu, what exactly are we trying to find out?”
“For instance, who exactly Xing Tian is, and why he doesn’t have a name.” Du Yu frowned and added, “And why he has a bronze axe.”
“Maybe Senior Xing Tian is actually a monster born from an Illusion Transformation of an axe, which is why he only has a giant axe and no name…”
Du Yu shot A’xiang an exasperated look and replied, “A’xiang, I thought my thought process was unusual enough, but compared to yours, I still fall a bit short.”
The two had not walked far before they heard a commotion up ahead.
Walking closer, they saw a large crowd of tribesmen gathered around, cheering and jeering at something.
Du Yu grabbed A’xiang and pushed through the crowd, slowly making their way to the center, only to see Houtu arm-wrestling a tremendously muscular man.
The surrounding tribesmen were cheering enthusiastically, while the two competitors in the center gritted their teeth, putting their all into the struggle.
“Gou Wu, there is no way you can beat me…” Houtu spat viciously.
“Stop talking big!” The burly man known as Gou Wu stomped his foot and actually stood up on the spot, pressing his entire body weight down onto Houtu’s wrist. He was already taller than Houtu, and now, using the power of his hind legs and core, Houtu found it difficult to parry the force for a moment.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Du Yu could not just stand by and watch. “Are you cheating, man?! Arm-wrestling is just arm-wrestling, why the hell are you standing up?”
The burly man called Gou Wu seemed to have never expected anyone to reprimand him and was momentarily stunned.
Houtu seized the opportunity to unleash an astonishing burst of strength. She stood up as well and slammed his arm down onto the stone table, shattering it with a resounding crack.
