Legend Management Bureau Chapter 383

Who is helping whom[ … words ]

[ … words ]

Du Yu was now very close to the massive black Buddha. Surprisingly, there were barely any Immortal Beings in the vicinity.

Right in front of the Buddha, four figures were engaged in a fierce magical battle.

Among them, a female cultivator shone the brightest. She wielded lightning in her left hand and manipulated water with her right. Behind her, a massive three-headed hound spewed scorching flames, and with every casual gesture, she unleashed a barrage of lethal spells.

Because her magic was entirely indiscriminate—devastating friend and foe alike—no one dared to approach within a radius of several hundred meters.

As for the other two men on the battlefield, their performance was rather comical.

One man, his hair standing on end, crackled with the majestic power of thunder. Yet, he seemed extremely wary of the female cultivator beside him. He hurled lightning bolts while simultaneously dodging hers, making it impossible to tell if this was a three-on-one battle or a four-way free-for-all.

Then there was the man who looked like a Dragon King. He manipulated his own currents of water to constantly evade the woman. Whenever he accidentally brushed against her lightning, his palms would go numb. He knew that even the Western Queen Mother would mind her allies when fighting, but this woman showed absolutely no regard for anyone else.

“Can you two useless men just leave?” the female cultivator shouted angrily. “I don’t need your help! If you weren’t here getting in my way, I would have won ages ago!”

The two “useless men” were in a truly miserable predicament. Already drenched in sweat, they not only had to dodge spells from both friend and foe just to stay alive, but now they were being cursed at as deadweight.

“If you’re not doing this willingly, then hurry up and get out of here!” the woman snapped coldly. “Men are absolutely useless!”

Du Yu scratched his head and called out softly from a short distance away, “Gorgon?”

“Huh?” Hearing his voice, the woman immediately wore an expression of pleasant surprise. Stowing away the holy relic in her hand, she abandoned the skirmish without hesitation and jogged over to Du Yu.

“Du Yu? It is so wonderful to see you!”

This left the true god of the Department of Thunder and the Dragon King of the East Sea completely bewildered.

Although this woman was exceptionally dangerous, it was only thanks to her profound cultivation that they had managed to fight the monk before them to a standstill for so long.

But what exactly was going on with this woman?

Just a moment ago she had been swearing that men were absolutely useless, yet here she was, running straight toward one.

They had just heard her call him “Du Yu.” Could he be the Operator?

“I spotted you a while ago, but you were too far away for me to say hello.” Du Yu smiled as he looked at her. There were very few people on this battlefield he could trust right now, but Gorgon was one of them.

“It does not matter,” Medusa replied with a smile. “As long as I slaughtered all these people getting in my way, we were bound to run into each other eventually.”

Du Yu nodded. “You are right. Blindly trying to protect everyone gets you nowhere in the end. I should have adopted your pure mindset a long time ago. If I had, I wouldn’t have had to struggle so exhaustingly.”

Medusa blinked, not quite grasping his meaning. “Du Yu, what’s wrong? You seem a little strange.”

“I am fine,” Du Yu said with a faint smile. “I finally just see things clearly now.”

Du Yu turned his head, his gaze sweeping coldly over the true god of the Department of Thunder and the Dragon King of the East Sea.

The sheer frostiness in his eyes caught them off guard.

Although they had never interacted with him personally, it was widely rumored throughout the Immortal Realm that the Operator, Du Yu, was an incredibly amicable person. Yet, the eyes of the man standing before them were filled with nothing but contempt and apathy. How was this amicable in the slightest?

“Don’t tell me you two actually can’t defeat that monk?” Du Yu asked.

The two deities froze, staring at him in disbelief. Although the monk had sustained injuries, it was nowhere near enough to deal a fatal blow.

“Our cultivation is simply lacking. It truly is…” the Dragon King said with deep shame. “Since Brother Du is here, why don’t we join forces…”

“There is no need,” Du Yu said, shaking his head. “I have more important matters to attend to. The enemy aims to slaughter the entire Immortal Realm in this war. This isn’t just my burden to bear, and you don’t get to dump all the responsibility onto my shoulders.”

“Eh…?” The two immortals had never expected this man to say such a thing. For a moment, they were utterly speechless.

The true god of the Department of Thunder stammered, “Brother Du, if we don’t stand against this black monk together, I fear the two of us will…”

“Then perish,” Du Yu said, giving a curt nod.

“You!” The true god of the Department of Thunder did not have the smooth temper of the Dragon King of the East Sea. He immediately flared with anger. “We came here to help you! What kind of attitude is that?!”

“Help me?” Du Yu chuckled, genuinely amused by the man’s outburst. “Old man, do you realize something? You are the ones destined to die in this war, whereas I am the one who is supposed to survive. If I hadn’t intervened and exerted my strength, all of you would already be dead by now.”

“What?!” the true god of the Department of Thunder exclaimed, his face etched with absolute shock.

“The only reason I am staying here is to help you survive,” Du Yu declared. “But as of right now, I no longer care whether you live or die. If you can’t win, then run. If you can’t run, then die. It is really that simple.”

The black monk, who had been quietly listening to their conversation, realized that the Du Yu standing before him was vastly different from the man described in their intelligence reports. A sudden thought flashed through his mind.

He closed his eyes and sent a Voice Transmission to Subhuti:

“Subhuti, something isn’t right here. Why is Du Yu acting so much like the ‘Saint’? Could they have swapped places?”

The black monk knew that if Du Yu and the ‘Saint’ had truly swapped places, then even if they killed the ‘Saint’, Du Yu would remain entirely unaffected. After all, Du Yu was the original ‘source.’

“Subhuti?”

The River-Crossing Arhat called out several times in rapid succession, but there was absolutely no response from Subhuti’s end.

“How strange… Subhuti, have you already entered nirvana?”

The River-Crossing Arhat narrowed his eyes, a sense of deep perplexity rising in his heart.

“Gorgon, come with me. We are going to kill the Buddha,” Du Yu ordered. “Forget about everyone else.”

The River-Crossing Arhat wanted to intervene, but a strong sense of apprehension held him back.

That female cultivator’s power was already terrifying. If she teamed up with Du Yu, the true god of the Department of Thunder, and the Dragon King of the East Sea, he would undoubtedly die a graveless death.

“Alright!” Gorgon beamed at Du Yu. “If I had known your target was that giant statue, I would have attacked it straight away.”

“No,” Du Yu said, shaking his head. “Gorgon, that Buddha is not something you can contend with alone. We need to find a few Heavenly Venerables and formulate a strategy to deal with it together.”

“If we are going to kill the giant statue… hold on a second.” Medusa reached out her hand, and out of thin air, a white dove materialized upon her palm.

Medusa’s lips moved slightly, as if she were whispering to the bird. A moment later, she tossed her arm up, sending the white dove fluttering into the sky.

“What was that for?” Du Yu asked.

“You’ll find out in a bit. If we are genuinely going to destroy that massive statue, we are going to need a little help.”

Du Yu gave a silent nod. True to his word, he completely ignored the Dragon King of the East Sea and the true god of the Department of Thunder, leading Medusa straight away from the battlefield.

The River-Crossing Arhat did not dare to pursue them. He had no choice but to turn his attention back to the two Immortal Beings.

Left with no other options, the two Immortal Beings braced themselves, pushing their focus to the absolute limit as they prepared to resume the fight.

Du Yu had only taken a few steps before a man called out to him from close behind.

“Wait!”

He turned around to see the Northern Emperor glaring at him coldly.

“Oh? Northern Emperor, you’re still here?”

The Northern Emperor’s gaze chilled as he spoke slowly, “Are you truly going to challenge that Buddha?”

“I am,” Du Yu confirmed with a nod. “If you think it’s too dangerous, you are free to leave at any time.”
