Confession[ … words ]

The crowd gathered in front of Du Yu, surrounding the giant black Buddha.
At this moment, the Heavenly Venerables looked at Du Yu with newfound respect. Just how strong were this young man’s strategic capabilities for him to gather so many helpers simultaneously in the midst of a chaotic battle?
Even Du Yu was a little puzzled. Since when did he have such a great grasp of the big picture?
“Hey! Brother!” Shuten exclaimed. “Have you witnessed the strength of the Armed Yokai Alliance this time? When are you going to join us?”
Before Du Yu could answer, two strange individuals stepped out from the crowd. Both of them carried a massive pair of Scissors on their backs.
One of them, a woman who looked incredibly dangerous, walked straight toward Du Yu and stood right in front of him.
Du Yu furrowed his brows. He knew he had never seen this woman before, but her attire looked somewhat similar to Shiranui Jinjiro’s. Did they know each other?
“Du Yu?” the woman asked.
“Huh?” Du Yu blanked for a moment. “That’s me.”
“How big?” Du Yu scratched his head, feeling that the situation was getting a bit bizarre. “How big is what?”
“Vulgar!” the woman snapped coldly. “I’m asking for your age!”
“Uh, you misunderstood… I didn’t mean anything else by it… I’m in my twenties, somewhere between twenty and thirty.”
The woman curled her lips in annoyance and added, “So young?”
Du Yu retorted, equally annoyed, “Young?”
“Let me ask you again. How much do you earn every year?”
“No, seriously, you are a very strange woman… Why are you asking these questions?” Du Yu found her to be completely unreasonable. “I don’t even know you. Giving you face and answering two of your questions is already generous enough. We are in a life-and-death situation right now, do you think you’re conducting a census?”
“Hmph!” The woman let out a fierce, cold snort, then turned around. “Asuka, what is wrong with this guy? Doesn’t he know to use honorifics with me? With such a lack of manners, how is he going to marry into our Shiranui Family in the future?”
“What? Marry into the Shiranui Family?” Du Yu felt that the situation unfolding before his eyes was slightly beyond his comprehension.
Medusa also asked with a baffled expression, “Enter the Shiranui Family? Du Yu, are you going to be a guest there?”
“Gorgon, please don’t add to the chaos…”
Just then, a little girl with a flushed face stepped out from the crowd.
Du Yu took one look; it was none other than Shiranui Asuka.
Her face was red from her forehead all the way down to her neck, making her look as if she were completely drunk.
Asuka walked over stiffly, pausing with every step like a malfunctioning robot, before speaking in excruciating awkwardness, “G-g-g-g-good morning, Senior Du Yu.”
“Good morning?” Du Yu scratched his head. “A’xiang, it’s almost noon. What’s wrong with you?”
“Oh… Is, is it noon already? Good noon to you, then…” Asuka looked like she wanted to find a hole to crawl into, continuously tugging at Shiranui Tsukimizake beside her.
Du Yu pondered for a moment before saying, “I still feel something is weird. A’xiang, is this girl from earlier your family member? She just said…”
“She didn’t say anything!!” Shiranui Asuka shrieked. “You misheard her, Senior Du Yu!”
“Asuka, you don’t need to interrupt!” Tsukimizake barked coldly. “This is between me and my ‘brother-in-law’! We will resolve it ourselves!”
Shiranui Asuka’s face grew even redder. She turned to look at Shiranui Kashin with a conflicted expression, as if pleading for help.
Shiranui Kashin immediately caught on and hurried over, throwing an arm around Du Yu’s shoulders.
“Ah, brother-in-law, don’t listen to the nonsense that crazy woman was asking. Anyone can tell you’re a great guy.”
“No, wait, why exactly are you guys calling me ‘brother-in-law’?” Du Yu asked in bewilderment. “Have you misunderstood something? Besides, I don’t even know you.”
“You might not know me, but I have a feeling we’re going to be lifelong friends!” Shiranui Kashin said with a grin. “If my guess is right… you also like chatting up pretty older women, right?”
“Well… I’m average in that regard,” Du Yu replied.
“Uh…” Shiranui Kashin thought for a second, then asked again, “Then you definitely like reading beauty magazines, right?”
“Just average.”
“Then… I know! You like watching those beautiful idol movies produced by our Fusang corporations! Right!?”
“Average.”
“Err…” Shiranui Kashin scratched his head and tried again. “Then you must love good food, right?”
“Good food? Also average.”
Du Yu found the man in front of him incredibly bizarre, having no idea what he was getting at.
Shiranui Kashin was getting so anxious he started scratching his ears and cheeks. He finally asked, “Then do you like playing video games?”
“Video games? I actually did like playing those when I was alive.” Du Yu nodded.
“Fantastic!” Shiranui Kashin immediately cheered, as if he had grasped a life-saving straw. “I also love playing video games! See, we have a common interest! From now on, we are best friends for life!”
“Good grief…” Du Yu finally realized the man’s core motive. “You beat around the bush for half a day just to say this? With the way you’re asking, we ‘definitely’ have a common interest.”
“Exactly, exactly! After you marry Little Xiang, you can come over to my place and play games anytime.”
“Even if I married A’xiang, I probably wouldn’t have time to…” Du Yu suddenly froze. “What did you just say?”
“Oh, stop being so shy.” Shiranui Kashin nudged Du Yu with his elbow. “Little Xiang already ‘confessed’ everything. Logically speaking, you should be taking more initiative than her.”
“Huh??” Du Yu was stunned for a long moment. Although the idea didn’t sound completely unacceptable, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this really wasn’t the time for it.
At that moment, a deeply blushing A’xiang walked over. She rummaged through her small shoulder bag for a while before pulling out a letter.
“Since I can’t hide it anymore… Senior Du Yu, please go out with me!”
Asuka bowed a full ninety degrees, extending her arms straight out. Clutched between her trembling hands was a faintly scented envelope.
A pink heart sticker was affixed to the seal of the envelope.
“Go out with you?”
Perplexed, Du Yu reached out and took the envelope. But in the very next instant, Shuten Doji and the ten thousand Yokai erupted into thunderous cheers.
“Whoa!! He took it! He took it! Someone finally wants Little Xiang!”
“Look at that! He accepted it without the slightest hesitation!”
The multitude of Yokai cheered wildly, and even the ten Time Masters began clapping enthusiastically.
“Eh?” Du Yu was taken aback. “W-what? What does me taking it mean?”
Sensing something was off, Shiranui Kashin quickly leaned in close to Du Yu and whispered, “Brother-in-law, you don’t actually know nothing about this, do you? If you didn’t like Little Xiang, you should have rejected her outright, not accepted her letter!”
“What the heck?” Du Yu realized things had gone terribly wrong. “That must be a custom in your Fusang! Over in Huaxia, when someone holds out an object to you like that, you have to quickly take it to show respect.”
“This is bad…” Shiranui Kashin pondered for a moment. “Then… brother-in-law, do you actually have feelings for Little Xiang or not?”
Du Yu furrowed his brows. “A’xiang’s second brother, I don’t dislike A’xiang, but I’ve never considered things like dating her. Right now is absolutely not the time to be discussing this. If we don’t deal with this giant Buddha properly, forget about ‘dating’, even ‘surviving’ will be a problem.”
“Oh?” Shiranui Kashin gave a wicked smirk before asking, “So you’re saying the moment this giant Buddha dies, is the moment you and Little Xiang start dating?”
