The lesser demons were looking at each other in dismay, but a moment later, they burst into a fit of mocking laughter.
“Woman! You definitely won’t be ‘killing demons’ today, but if you can coax us into a good mood, we can let you ‘birth demons’!”
“Let me go!” The female demon struggled fiercely, her eyes remaining slightly closed. “If you don’t release me… you’re going to regret it!”
“Oh?” A lesser demon began to get handsy, tearing at the woman’s clothes. “How exactly are we going to regret it?”
“My… my family won’t let you off! I-I am from the Shiranui family!”
Jin Jianglang paused slightly, completely unprepared to hear such a claim.
“Hahahaha! Shiranui?!” A lesser demon pressed his face against hers and spoke with malicious intent. “Do you even know what you are?! To dare spout such a lie?!”
“I-I am an Onmyoji… You’re all going to pay… My Patriarch will kill you…” The female demon’s voice gradually weakened, sounding as though she had lost all confidence.
“An Onmyoji?” The lesser demon reached out and pinched her face, his words slow and deliberate. “Even if that old man Shiranui Kyugo came here in person, I’d slaughter him right in front of you! Give it up and focus on birthing our demons!”
The lesser demons froze in place, utterly bewildered.
Jin Jianglang spun his giant scissors in his hand a few times before suddenly leaping out. In a split second, he severed all three of their necks.
“Thud, thud, thud.” Three demon heads tumbled to the ground, and the oppressive weight pressing down on the female demon vanished.
“Eh?” The female demon froze for a moment, then tilted her head to listen. “Is… is someone there?”
Jin Jianglang was equally stunned, completely at a loss as to what this female demon was playing at.
He had just leaped out and slaughtered them, yet she was asking if anyone was there?
He watched as the female demon took a deep breath, then crouched down and began feeling around on the ground. Soon enough, her hands brushed against one of the severed demon heads.
“Whoa!” The woman was taken aback. She felt it more carefully. “They really died? Have I gotten stronger again?”
After saying this, she suddenly remembered something and quickly brought her hands together in prayer. “Seniors… in that moment of crisis, this humble girl had no choice but to borrow the Shiranui family name. I hope the spirits of the seniors in heaven will not take offense…”
With that, she lowered her head deeply and whispered, “If you’re still angry, please make it rain immediately.”
Jin Jianglang watched her lips move slightly, as if she were counting down.
A few seconds later, she suddenly lifted her head. “Wonderful! As expected of highly respected seniors!”
She then resumed feeling around the ground, searching for the other demon heads as she slowly counted, “Two, three… All three demons are dead…”
Jin Jianglang crossed his arms, watching the closed-eyed female demon with great interest.
The woman fumbled around the dirt for a bit longer until she found her wooden stick. Then, aiming at the demon heads, she brought it down again and again, smashing all three into a bloody pulp.
Jin Jianglang scratched his head. He had originally planned to take those demon heads back to report the completion of his mission, but why did this woman just smash them to pieces?
After finishing her task, the woman stood up and sniffled in the cold wind. When she slightly opened her eyes, Jin Jianglang finally noticed that she had a pair of pale, cloudy pupils.
She slowly extended her stick, resting it against the ground, and began to gently shuffle forward, tapping the path ahead of her.
Jin Jianglang reached out and waved a hand in front of the female demon’s eyes, realizing she seemed to be completely blind.
The blind girl continued to tap the ground with her wooden stick, and was just about to bump right into him.
Jin Jianglang had to step slightly to the side, but accidentally stepped on some gravel, letting out a soft crunching sound.
“Who is it?!” The blind girl jumped in fright and quickly gripped her wooden stick tightly with both hands. “Who’s there?!”
Jin Jianglang frowned slightly but remained silent.
“Take this!” The blind girl hurled her stick fiercely in his direction, roaring, “Where did you come from, you demon?!”
His eyes grew cold as he reached out and caught the stick. Still, he couldn’t help but find the situation somewhat amusing—a demon was actually trying to beat an Onmyoji, mistaking him for a demon.
“I’m not a demon.” Jin Jianglang tossed the stick back to her. “I am an Onmyoji, here to kill demons.”
“An… Onmyoji?” The woman caught the stick, freezing for a moment before something quickly clicked in her mind. “Then do you know the Shiranui family?”
Jin Jianglang scratched his head again. “Why are you looking for the Shiranui family?”
“So you do know them? That’s wonderful!” The female demon revealed a sweet smile. Her gaze was fixed on empty space, but her body was turned squarely toward him. “Senior, could you please introduce me to them? I’ve walked for so long to get here, and I’ve completely lost my sense of direction…”
“You…” Jin Jianglang felt conflicted. Given this woman’s identity as a demon, let alone going to the Shiranui family, she would be immediately exterminated if she stepped within a five-kilometer radius of their territory.
“Senior, although I’ve been blind since childhood, I am very strong.” She wore a confident smile. “I want to become an Onmyoji. Could you take me to the Shiranui family?”
“An Onm…” Jin Jianglang was stunned. A demon wanted to become an Onmyoji?
“Miss, are you joking with me?” Jin Jianglang frowned as he studied the strange female demon before him. “Do you know that you are a demon yourself?”
“Oh, no, I’m not!” The female demon hurriedly waved her hands. “Everyone sees my pale eyes and calls me a demon, but the truth is I just can’t see. I was raised by my parents, so how could I possibly be a demon?”
Jin Jianglang’s eyes narrowed slightly. This situation was truly far too bizarre.
This woman was exuding thick smoke and positively reeked of demonic energy, yet she claimed she wasn’t a demon.
Could it be that she genuinely didn’t know?
Thinking about it carefully, it actually seemed entirely possible. She couldn’t see the smoke billowing out of her, nor could she sense the demonic energy swirling around her.
Did she think she was… a human?
“Why do you want to be an Onmyoji?” Jin Jianglang asked again.
“Because demons killed my parents,” the blind girl replied. “My parents raised me, but they were murdered by demons… I have to avenge them… I will kill every last demon!”
Jin Jianglang slowly pursed his lips, unsure of what to say.
After pondering for a long time, he finally said slowly, “I don’t know where the Shiranui family is, and I’d advise you not to go looking for them either. I’ve heard they’re very hard to get along with; they won’t accept you.”
“But… but I’m really strong!” The blind girl extended her slender arm and rolled up her sleeve, showing off her non-existent biceps to him. “Look, senior! I even have muscles!”
“Musc…” Jin Jianglang sighed softly. “Hah, just leave while you can. Stop looking for the Shiranui family, and stop trying to kill demons. If you keep this up, you’re going to get yourself killed.”
“But why…?” The blind girl sounded frantic. “Can’t I even fight demons?”
But Jin Jianglang just shook his head and stepped aside, refusing to say another word.
“Senior?”
After a moment, the blind girl called out again.
“How strange… Did he leave?”
A gust of chilling wind blew past, causing the blind girl to shiver slightly. She kept sniffling, and even her lips had turned pale.
‘How can there be a demon like you in this world…’ Jin Jianglang took off his outer clothes, which bore his family crest, and tossed them over from a distance.
“Fwump.”
The clothes landed on the ground, drawing the blind girl’s attention.
“Who’s there?!” the blind girl shouted. She immediately spun around, taking up a defensive stance. Gripping her wooden stick with both hands, she carefully listened to her surroundings.
However, after listening for quite a while without hearing any further movement, she gathered her courage and slowly walked forward.
“Is anyone there?”
The blind girl asked once more, continuously prodding the ground with her stick. It wasn’t long before she poked something soft.
“Huh?”
She paused in surprise, then gently reached out to feel it. To her astonishment, it was a thick, magnificently crafted set of clothes.
“Whoa…!!”
Elated, the blind girl picked up the clothes and put them on. Though the garment was a bit large, at least she wasn’t freezing anymore.
“Hehe! What great luck! To think someone left a brand-new set of clothes lying right here… Now I won’t freeze to death!”
No sooner had she spoken than the blind girl let out a loud sneeze.
