“W-Who is there?” The blind girl slowly edged to the side, reaching out to grope for her wooden stick.

Ootengu also revealed a hint of awkwardness. He hadn’t expected to be exposed so suddenly; he had wanted to play around a little longer.

But as things stood, there was no way he could continue pretending not to be there.

“I say, you’ve got a lot of nerve, little Yokai!” Ootengu cleared his throat, feigning a ferocious tone. “Do you have any idea whose grilled fish you just ate?”

“Ah?!” The blind girl collapsed onto the ground in fright. She never imagined the other party was so close to her. “I… I… I’m not a demon… My eyes are just pale… Everyone thinks I’m…”

“I don’t care if you have white eyes or green eyes!” Ootengu stood up slightly, wanting to intimidate her but feeling he lacked a valid reason, considering he was the one who teased her first.

He looked at the female demon’s clothes, pondered for a moment, and said, “Little Yokai, I’ll let it slide that you ate my fish. Just tell me where the owner of those clothes is. He is my enemy, and I am going to kill him.”

“The owner of these clothes…?” The blind girl touched the exceptionally warm clothes on her body, her face showing signs of struggle. “Even though I don’t know whose clothes these are, I wouldn’t tell you even if I did… He made me warm, so I could never betray him.”

“You don’t know whose clothes these are?” Ootengu gave a wicked smirk and added, “He’s an Onmyoji with a cold tone and an arrogant attitude. You truly haven’t seen him?”

“An Onmyoji? Could it be…” The blind girl seemed to realize something. “N-No way…”

“So you have seen him?” Ootengu asked, still wearing his wicked smirk. “If you spill the beans, I have another grilled fish right here for you to eat.”

The blind girl swallowed hard at the scent of the grilled fish, but she pursed her lips and declared, “I-I won’t say anything! Even if you don’t give me any food, I still won’t tell you!”

“Oh?” Ootengu chuckled. His wings flapped slightly, whipping up a fierce gust of wind. “Do you have any idea who you are talking to?”

The blind girl was forced back several steps by Ootengu’s gale. Right behind her was a medium-sized rock, and just as she was about to trip over it, both Ootengu and Jin Jianglang struck out simultaneously to knock the stone away.

“Y-You’re a Yokai?” The blind girl gripped her stick tightly and retreated a few more steps, saying, “If you’re a Yokai… then I have to kill you…”

“Oh?” Ootengu hadn’t expected the other party to throw out such harsh words while stumbling around. “You said you want to… kill me?”

“I, I…” After that little exchange, the blind girl seemed rather frightened. She trembled as she held her stick, no longer daring to shout as boldly as she just did.

“Little Yokai, just tell me where that man went, and I will let you go.” Ootengu continued to radiate an overwhelming amount of demonic energy, causing all the demons within a three-kilometer radius to scatter in panic. Looking back at the female demon, she appeared terrified, and the smoke emanating from her body had turned somewhat transparent.

Although the female demon’s eyes were lifeless, her expression was exceptionally resolute. She turned her face slightly to the side, pondered for a moment, and then replied, “Then just kill me.”

“Hmm?” Ootengu paused in surprise, his gaze unconsciously following the direction the female demon was facing. “Do… do you think I’m blind like you?”

He scratched his head, noticing that the girl was facing a very specific direction. She was clearly pointing right toward the spot where she had just encountered Jin Jianglang.

“Ah?” The female demon finally realized her mistake and hurriedly corrected her posture. “N-No, I wasn’t looking in that direction just now…”

“Hahahahaha!” Ootengu finally couldn’t hold back his laughter anymore. “Little Yokai, I’ll go check right now. If that Onmyoji is really over there, you’ll have done a great deed!”

With that said, he flapped his wings and handed the grilled fish to Jin Jianglang. Giving him a wicked smirk, he mouthed the words, “Brother, this is as much as I can help you!”

“You’re asking for a beating, young kid!” Jin Jianglang mouthed back, picking up a rock from the ground and tossing it at him.

Hearing Ootengu slowly fly away, the blind girl finally breathed a sigh of relief.

She groped her way back to sit on the rock and warmed herself by the fire. Then, she picked up the grilled fish covered in sand and gravel from the ground, blew on it a few times, and took a gentle bite.

It was like chewing crushed ice; a gritty crunching sound came from her mouth. It seemed the grilled fish was completely coated in sand.

She lowered her head, remaining silent, and chewed softly as if pondering something deeply.

Jin Jianglang could only watch her from the sidelines. He slowly stuck his own grilled fish into the ground right in front of her.

The sky was growing dark, and the cold wind swept past with increasing speed. The blind girl pulled the clothes tighter around herself, her expression somewhat gloomy.

Jin Jianglang also gently reached out his hands to warm them by the fire. It looked like they would be camping out tonight.

The north wind continued to howl, whipping the campfire wildly as the burning wood let out a series of sharp crackles and pops.

“No!” the blind girl suddenly shouted with full conviction, startling Jin Jianglang.

“That senior gave me his clothes, I absolutely cannot let him get hurt!” The blind girl jammed the half-eaten fish back into the ground and shot to her feet. “That Yokai is very powerful! I have to go save the senior!”

After saying that, she grabbed her walking stick, pulled the clothes tight, and broke into a quick jog while tapping the ground ahead of her.

Every few steps, she would trip over a rock on the ground, then quickly steady herself and push forward again.

Jin Jianglang watched her stumbling figure retreat into the distance, his expression incredibly complicated.

What in the world was this female demon trying to do?

Was she overly confident, or just overly ignorant?

Did she honestly believe she could beat a high-level Yokai like Ootengu to death with a wooden stick?

She was clearly weak as hell, yet she insisted on hunting demons in a forest swarming with them.

“Fool, go ahead and throw your life away.” Jin Jianglang angrily snatched the grilled fish off the ground. “If you won’t eat it, I will. Who cares if some demon lives or dies…”

He had just taken a bite when he heard the blind girl yelling from afar, “Senior Onmyoji, are you still nearby? Someone is trying to kill you! Run away!”

Jin Jianglang ate his grilled fish slowly, his brow furrowed into a tight knot.

“Senior! Run! A Yokai is coming to kill you!”

Her voice gradually drifted farther and farther away.

“Senior!”

Jin Jianglang paused, let out a deep sigh, and violently drove the stick with the grilled fish back into the dirt.

“What a pain… what an absolute pain!”

He stood up, retrieved his scissors from the ground, strapped them onto his back, and headed in the direction the female demon had gone.

The moon gradually climbed above the treetops, and the continuous howling of wolves echoed through the forest.

Jin Jianglang knew that if he didn’t hurry up and stop that fool, she definitely wouldn’t survive the night.
