Legend Management Bureau Chapter 95
Impermanence guards[ … words ]

Seeing this situation, the green brush at Du Yu’s waist let out a helpless sigh.
“Du Yu… I feel like even if you die here, I won’t be left behind. I’ll probably just get picked up by another underworld envoy.”
“Holy crap! What kind of nonsense is that?!” Du Yu was dumbfounded. “Do we have no camaraderie at all?!”
“Camaraderie my foot!” Yingning scolded with a delicate huff. “I do all the fighting while you just stand there looking friendly?”
Du Yu dodged frantically while arguing with Yingning, his hands completely full.
“I’ve done my best for you, haven’t I?!” Du Yu retorted. “And now you’re just going to abandon me? This quitting habit of yours is very familiar. From now on, don’t call yourself Yingning. Just call yourself Ying Qisheng!”
Du Yu’s reverse psychology worked. Yingning snorted coldly, muttered a curse about his shamelessness, and flew out.
The black and white duo had not expected a mere mortal like Du Yu to carry such a magical treasure. Unable to halt their momentum, they raised their weapons to block the green brush. However, the brush’s power was incredibly fierce. Although they managed to parry the strike, both were forced several steps back.
Seeing that the pair could barely hold their ground, Yingning redirected the brush toward their necks, sending a blast of frigid air crashing straight toward the burly man in white.
Du Yu roared. Yingning slowly ground to a halt, turned back impatiently, and asked in a haunting tone, “Are we fighting or not?”
“We’re fighting…” Du Yu replied. “Just don’t kill them!”
“You!”
“There seems to be a vengeful spirit attached to this brush,” the burly man in white observed. “Quick, send a message to the Niu family.”
“Are you ordering me around?” The little boy in black shot him an icy glare, completely ignoring the request.
“Hmph, what an ill-mannered brat. Fine, it doesn’t matter if the Niu family comes or not. I was just looking to test out this treasure’s capabilities anyway.” The burly man in white shook the white banner in his hand, and the faint sound of weeping ghosts echoed out.
Yingning could not help but laugh out loud at the sight of the ghost-catching artifact. “Do you actually think I’m just some ordinary vengeful spirit?”
With a flash of green light, Yingning materialized.
“If you don’t get out of my way, I won’t hold back anymore. I really will take your lives.” A chilling smile slowly crept across Yingning’s face.
“Oh?” The burly man in white furrowed his brows. “I misjudged the situation. This isn’t a case of ‘wandering ghosts trespassing in the Impermanence Hall’. This is clearly ‘a thousand-year-old female ghost here to crash the party’.”
With that said, he shook his white banner vigorously, gradually drawing in a massive swarm of souls from the surroundings.
“Soul-Summoning Heavenly Wheel!”
The burly man bellowed. The souls began to swirl slowly around the white banner, forming a massive, ghostly vortex that drilled toward Yingning like a bizarre, spectral auger.
Frigid air permeated the surroundings as the souls wailed in agony.
“Haha, how ridiculous.”
Yingning chuckled. With a fierce wave of her hand, she whipped up a gust of bone-chilling wind. The countless souls were instantly blown apart, scattering like sand in a storm.
“You gathered so many innocent souls, yet not a single one died with grievances. How could they possibly contend with me?”
Wearing an innocent smile, Yingning stepped forward. With a mere glance, a thick layer of ice formed on the white banner. The frost spread rapidly, freezing all the way up the man’s arm. Sensing the danger, the burly man hastily discarded his weapon.
“Crap! This female ghost has way more than a thousand years of cultivation!” The man turned to the little boy in black. “Fan Tu, call for backup!”
The little boy had already noticed something was amiss. He pointed a finger at his own artifact, causing a black bell to rapidly expand in size. As it swayed slowly, a thunderous chime rippled outward, carrying an intense bloody aura that echoed throughout the courtyard.
“Clang!”
The crisp ring reverberated, causing the very earth to tremble.
The boy suddenly pulled an object resembling a paper tube from his robes. Aiming it at the sky, the tube spewed sparks before launching a projectile that exploded high above. Upon closer inspection, it was a black firework.
In an instant, thousands of buildings within the Impermanence Hall released a massive volley of black and white fireworks, accompanied by the rising of countless sinister auras.
“Looks like things are getting a bit out of hand,” Du Yu muttered, staring blankly. “I just wanted to check on their injuries…”
Figures began plummeting from the sky like a torrential downpour. In the blink of an eye, the plaza was packed with hundreds of people—men, women, and children, all dressed in either black or white. Every single one of them exuded an extraordinary aura, making it clear they were no ordinary Black and White Impermanence envoys.
“What’s the situation?” a curvaceous woman asked, looking at the burly man in white and the little boy. “I haven’t seen this summoning order in thousands of years. I almost didn’t react in time.”
“A vengeful spirit has trespassed into the Impermanence Hall. Initial estimates put her at two thousand years of cultivation,” the burly man in white said, taking a step forward. “Our two Patriarchs are currently at a critical juncture, so we had no choice but to issue the Impermanence Summons.”
“Hold on, everyone, just listen to me for a second,” Du Yu pleaded to the massive crowd. “We aren’t here to cause trouble. I’m a friend of the Seventh and Eighth Lords. Could you just go inform them I’m here?”
“The Patriarchs are unconscious, and no one is allowed near them,” the little boy in black stated coldly. “Daode Tianzun decreed that anyone who arrives at the Impermanence Hall during this time must be thoroughly interrogated.”
“Then interrogate me!” Du Yu pointed at the boy in black. “What’s the meaning of attacking without a word and not asking a single question?”
“There is no need for an interrogation. It is impossible for the Patriarchs to have any ties with a mortal.”
“You’re impossible to reason with.” Du Yu shook his head before adding, “Forget it, we’ll just leave. You all don’t need to loiter around here anymore. It wouldn’t be good if anyone got hurt; I wouldn’t know how to explain it to the Seventh and Eighth Lords.”
Du Yu stepped forward, grabbing Yingning’s hand to leave, but when he turned around, his path was already blocked by a wall of people.
“You think you can just come and go as you please? What do you take our Impermanence Guards for?”
“Sigh.”
Du Yu was truly at his wits’ end.
‘I have to blame Little Seven and Bao Zheng for this,’ he thought. ‘Why didn’t they warn me beforehand that entering the Impermanence Hall would be this dangerous…’
Du Yu looked up again and noticed even more Black and White Impermanence envoys continuously flying in from the distance. They had likely seen the two-colored fireworks and were rushing over from other areas.
He figured the longer this dragged on, the more troublesome it would become.
“Yingning, is there a way out of here?” Du Yu asked.
“If we go all out, we could probably carve a bloody path of escape,” Yingning replied in a frosty tone.
“I’ve noticed you only smile at others now, but you’re always so fierce with me.”
“Just looking at you pisses me off,” Yingning snapped.
Du Yu let out a helpless sigh. Setting Yingning’s attitude aside for a moment, was he really going to have to slaughter his way through these Black and White Impermanence envoys?
He furrowed his brows as another problem occurred to him.
Yingning could escape, but could he?
“Yingning, come back for now,” Du Yu said, pulling out the brush. “I’ll use a teleportation talisman to get us out.”
Yingning pondered for a brief moment before nodding. Transforming into a ball of green light, she retreated into the brush.
Du Yu fished out a teleportation talisman, slapped it onto his body, and chanted repeatedly in his mind, ‘Mount Bugui, Mount Bugui, Mount Bugui…’
A wicked smirk touched Du Yu’s lips. “Oh boy, I finally managed to escape.”
But when he opened his eyes, he found four flags planted around him, and he was still facing the dense, overwhelming crowd of Black and White Impermanence envoys.
“Eh?” Du Yu froze. “You guys came to hang out at Mount Bugui too…”
Right after saying that, he lowered his head and cursed under his breath, “Holy crap… Why couldn’t I teleport away?”
A little girl wearing white clothes, her back bristling with flags, slowly stepped forward. With a faint smile, she boasted, “This is an instant Spirit-Locking Formation I developed. Pretty impressive, right?”
Du Yu took one look at the girl and felt she looked somewhat familiar.
“Were you… a retainer at the Fire Cloud Villa previously?” Du Yu asked.
The little girl paused for a moment before something clicked in her memory. “You’re… that bandit?”
Du Yu clapped his hands together. This little girl was indeed the same one who had planted teleportation formations all over the five great sects!
“Oh my! Aren’t we old acquaintances?! We know each other, we definitely know each other!” Du Yu hurriedly stepped forward. Although he had no idea why this girl had become a White Impermanence envoy, he finally saw a glimmer of hope.
“Hold it!” The little boy in black suddenly blocked Du Yu’s path. Turning his head, he asked, “Xie Yujiao, are you familiar with this person?”
The girl named Xie Yujiao thought about it for a moment, then shook her head. “We’re not really familiar with each other. We’ve only met once…”
“Huh?” Du Yu frantically waved his hands. “How can you say that? As the saying goes, every encounter is a matter of fate. For us to cross paths in a sea of people, it’s naturally…”
“Enough with your endless nonsense.” The little boy snorted coldly. Turning to the crowd, he ordered, “Kill this man immediately! We absolutely cannot delay the Patriarchs’ healing process.”
“Yes!”
The figures in black and white seemed to obey this boy’s command, pulling out their magical treasures in unison.
“This Spirit-Locking Formation…” Du Yu looked up at the flags. “I was just using this to torment other people not too long ago. Is karma hitting me this fast?”
Du Yu lowered his head and whispered to Yingning, “I guess I can’t send a message to Lady Houtu right now either, huh?”
“Correct,” Yingning replied. “Your magical power can’t flow out, and even if Lady Houtu knew, she probably wouldn’t make an appearance.”
“I’m doomed… I never expected I’d end up dying here of all places…”
As Du Yu was hesitating, he heard a faint noise from the large doors behind him, as if someone had just entered. He turned around and saw a large group of Black and White Impermanence envoys walking in. They looked travel-worn, likely staff returning from their duties in the living world.
“Xie Sha, Fan Tu, what happened?” an elderly man in white asked slowly. “To think the Impermanence Summons was actually issued?”
“I had no intention of disturbing everyone while you were working, but the circumstances are dire. The Patriarchs’ safety takes precedence over all else,” the child named Fan Tu explained.
“For a single mortal to draw out Impermanence envoys from all directions…” The elderly man shook his head slightly. “Aren’t you blowing this a bit out of proportion?”
“It’s not that simple,” Fan Tu said. “He’s carrying a vengeful spirit with at least two thousand years of cultivation.”
“Will you guys just listen to my explanation?!” Du Yu yelled. “I might have a vengeful spirit with me, but I harbor zero malicious intent! Honestly, I’m just a bit of a pervert, so I brought a pretty girl along. I just didn’t expect her to be such a good fighter, that’s all!”
The crowd was momentarily stunned. What kind of excuse was that?
Pointing at Fan Tu and Xie Sha, Du Yu continued, “You two saw it just now! When that vengeful spirit tried to hurt you, I was the one who stopped her!”
Just as Du Yu was racking his brain to convince them, a faint voice drifted in from outside the doors. “Aren’t you Du Yu?”
Du Yu turned around to see a woman in white slowly approaching. It was Xie Jin, the very same envoy who had brought him to the underworld.
