My Glitched World Throne System Came Ten Years Too Early Chapter 116

The rest of the day went by far faster than Roderic would’ve liked.

Alas, by the time the sun began setting, Riverwood had changed completely.

Well over three hundred bear traps and one hundred caltrops had been scattered throughout the forests, while many more were hidden across the village itself.

Doors, windows, alleys, anywhere you can think of had become danger zones.

Roderic couldn’t help but smile as he wandered through the village, carefully following one of the paths that had deliberately been left untouched.

’Not bad,’ he thought. ’Not bad at all.’

Slowing to a stop at the road leading into Riverwood from the Deres side, Roderic’s grin only grew wider.

Several massive trees covered the roads while traps were scattered everywhere around them.

’I’m sure this’ll be quite the shocker,’ he thought, crouching down near a trap.

Unfortunately, they hadn’t finished everything yet.

Hopefully, there was plenty of time for that tomorrow.

’And if there’s not… I’ll have to improvise.’

With that, Roderic stood back up and turned around.

Now that night had fallen, it was time to discuss the plan for tomorrow with the others.

Well, plan… it would be better to call it plans.

…

The next morning, Roderic was already outside before the sun had fully risen.

At the same time, dozens of soldiers moved throughout Riverwood once again.

Hours slowly passed by as they worked on the finishing touches.

This time, several large trees had already been cut down near the end of the road.

Half were being dragged onto the road… but the other half?

’’Come on, push!’’ Roderic shouted.

Shhh!

A large log scraped against the side of a building, Frederic and Paul pushing it up from underneath.

’’Hhhh!’’ Roderic pulled with all his might, aura wrapped around his body.

Finally, the log had been pulled up completely.

Roderic wiped the sweat from his brow as he straightened.

Behind him, two more logs had already been placed on the roof, only being held in place by long ropes.

Without wasting any more time, he quickly pulled the last log up and bound it to the others.

’That’s that,’ he thought.

Roderic glanced around for a moment.

The village’s exit had two two-story-tall inns tightly hugging the main road from either side.

Unlike before, both of them had several logs bound to their roofs.

And then there was the actual road beneath.

Not only did several logs block the way through, well over two dozen caltrops and bear traps were buried everywhere.

Just then, something far in the distance caught Roderic’s attention.

A small cloud of dust was rising on the horizon.

The cause of it was a single rider.

’Early,’ he thought. ’Really early.’

His eyes narrowed as his heart began pounding faster and faster.

Without another thought, he jumped off the roof and rushed towards the front.

By the time he got there, another soldier was already guiding the scout down the correct path.

As the scout saw Roderic, he immediately jumped off his horse.

’’Young lord!’’ he shouted. ’’Terrible news!’’

’’How far away are they and what are their numbers?’’ Roderic asked immediately.

The scout swallowed hard, still catching his breath.

’’They’ve sent an advance force ahead,’’ he said between gasps. ’’Two hundred men on horseback. Most were soldiers, but I spotted several knights amongst them!’’

Roderic’s expression darkened slightly.

His gaze flickered back to the roads far behind him.

Over a dozen knights were still carefully planting traps on the road leading to the Whitemane Estate.

’’How long do we have?’’ he asked, turning back.

’’An hour at most,’’ the scout replied. ’’They suddenly began accelerating earlier! They must have seen me. I’m sorry, young lord!’’

Roderic waved him off without even thinking about it.

There were many more matters on his mind which were far more important.

’Two hundred men,’ he thought. ’That’s nothing compared to their six-thousand-strong army.’

Both numbers were estimates made by scouts, so they could easily be higher or lower as well.

But that wasn’t important either.

’The original plan was trapping their main army,’ he thought. ’It’d lower their morale perfectly and force them to carry their injured.’

With an advance force, however, the story became much different.

’If left alone, they’d barely suffer any casualties from the traps and be able to warn the main army.’

Though it wouldn’t deviate them from their course, the total number of victims would drop immensely.

And that was not something they could afford.

’They have over triple our numbers… If we want any chance at winning this war, I NEED to lower them here!’

Roderic clenched his fists tightly.

A dangerous but doable plan had already formed inside his mind.

’I can do this,’ he thought. ’I can pull this off!’

Without another moment of hesitation, he went towards the back of the village where most of the knights were.

Most importantly, Edmund was there.

’’Edmund!’’ he shouted right away.

The middle-aged man quickly looked up before hurrying over.

’’Young master?’’ he asked, slightly confused.

Roderic pointed towards the wagons which still held traps and supplies inside.

’’Take half our knights and soldiers,’’ he commanded. ’’I need you to bring everything we don’t need to the estate.’’

Edmund blinked once.

’’Huh?’’

’’Inform father too,’’ Roderic continued, not even looking at Edmund anymore. ’’He needs to set up the traps around the estate together with the blacksmiths. I’ve left a map with some of the crucial locations marked.’’

Slowly, Edmund’s eyes began to widen.

Everything clicked at once as he noticed the scout walk through a safe path.

’’What about you, Young master?’’ he asked, his voice already lowering.

A confident grin grew on Roderic’s face immediately.

’’We’re staying,’’ he replied casually.

Edmund’s face fell.

’’But young master…’’

Roderic shook his head right away.

’’None of this nonsense,’’ he said. ’’We’re taking care of the advance party and then we’re leaving.’’

He paused for as his smile grew even wider.

’’So you have nothing to worry about.’’
