Sss Awakening I Can Class Change At Will Chapter 697

Eating the heart of true elf[ … words ]

The northern commander’s expression changed the instant it saw the crimson heart appear in Moon’s hand.

It knew that heart. It had licked its twin off its own lips not so long ago. And it understood, immediately, what Moon meant to do with it.

Without hesitation, it raised its bow and loosed at Moon, desperate to stop the heart from being used.

It wanted that heart for itself.

The Beast Soul snatched the heart from Moon’s palm and swallowed it in one swift motion, eager to obey the command Moon had given it, the crimson organ vanishing down its throat.

The northern commander’s face darkened, twisting into something between anger and dread. It began firing in earnest, arrow after arrow screaming toward the Beast Soul, trying to disperse the spirit before it could devour the heart and gain its benefits.

Moon put himself in the way, planting his feet in front of the Beast Soul and became its shield, both blades whirling, batting arrows from the air, catching shots that would have struck the spirit.

He couldn’t stop them all in those precious seconds. Not in his state, not against this speed. Several got through, one destroying his shoulder once more, another tearing his abdomen, leaving several holes in his body, blood pouring into the snow painting it crimson.

But Moon smiled.

He coughed up a massive mouthful of blood, his legs buckling, and as he collapsed to the frozen ground, the notification blazed across his fading vision.

[Your ‘Lesser Elf’ Beast Soul has Evolved to A-Rank]

It had worked, beast souls could grow on more than just Lives.

Moon’s body settled into the snow, and even as he died and dispersed into light, there was peace on his face.

[You have lost 10,000 Lives]

He reformed a moment later, weaker than before, his body wracked by the stacked debuffs of multiple deaths. It didn’t matter, he forced himself to his feet, coughing, and looked at what he’d made.

The Beast Soul stood transformed.

The southern commander, was now blazing with a Surpasser’s aura of its own, its blades held ready, its dead eyes lit with a fierce, hungry look.

“Time for round two between you two,” Moon said, blood on his lips, a grin cutting through the exhaustion. “Let’s see who wins this time.”

The Beast Soul’s gaze fixed on the northern commander, ready to devour the enemy that had broken it once.

Across the snow, the archer stared at its resurrected, ascended rival, and its grim expression said everything.

The situation had escalated far too quickly.

The Beast Soul moved first, closing the distance the archer had spent the entire fight protecting, and this time the elf couldn’t wall it off just like it did with Moon.

The southern commander’s speed was on another level. It parried all the incoming arrows, and closed the distance.

Two blades met one bow, and where the archer had toyed with the swordsman an hour ago, now it was fighting for real.

The Beast Soul’s dual blades worked their magic, the same difficult style the archer knew intimately, because they had fought a hundred times before, rivals who had studied each other for years, and every counter the archer threw, the swordsman had already seen.

But now the southern commander had the strength to punish it.

Steel rang against steel as the archer desperately fended off the assault, backpedaling, loosing arrows at point-blank range that the Beast Soul batted aside or evaded.

The Beast Soul drove a strike through the archer’s guard and opened a deep gash across its chest.

The archer shrieked and retaliated, an arrow tearing across the swordsman’s arm, but the spirit didn’t slow down, pressing forward with relentless pressure.

They moved across the snow in a blur, crimson trails streaking behind them, blades and arrows and energy detonating against each other, the whole wasteland trembling with the clash of two powerful Lesser Elf’s that had both exceeded the normal limits of their races.

Moon watched from a distance, exhausted, recovering from the debuffs of his previous two deaths. He stood there grinning like a fool.

The feeling of watching his summon fight at that level of power overpowered any exhaustion he was feeling. He’d walked into this fight facing a monster that was destined to destroy his entire team, and he’d turned its own trump card against it.

He had gambled a lot throughout this entire fight, and his gambles had ended in his favor, something he was very grateful for.

Watching the power of the Southern Commander, Moon was no longer upset about losing the chance to feed the heart to the Supreme Rank turtle. An A-Rank Beast Soul, summonable at will, loyal to his command was not something that anybody could acquire.

A subordinate that could stand toe-to-toe with Surpassers, riding in his summon pool, ready whenever he called.

I have a Surpasser under my command now.

Across the field, the Beast Soul feinted low, a committed drop the archer’s instincts read and answered, and then reversed, both blades crossing upward in a scissoring strike, the exact killing technique it had used many times before.

The archer moved to block it, but an arrow suddenly rushed towards it from the side.

Forced to take one of the hits, the archer decided to block the two blades. The arrow struck it in the shoulder, and the Freezing Cold debuff took effect once more.

Moon drew his b-rank bow once more, ready to release his second arrow, a small smile plastered on his face. Although he was still exhausted, he had enough power to release these arrows from a far.

The archer staggered released an angry cry, blood pouring from the wound on its shoulder, and for the first time, real fear crossed its face.

Moon’s grin widened. “Not so arrogant now, are you? How do you feel? The same rival you thought was nothing but a stepping stone in your path… is now the cause of your death.”

The archer stared at Moon in hatred, but it couldn’t do anything, occupied by the southern commander that did not relent.
