The Broken Halo Chapter 130

Chapter 130: 67,000 Merits

Simon’s words and gaze emitted a sort of pressure that could not be put into words.

This overbearing pressure was not only felt by the two trembling Initiates on the ground, but the other Initiates who were watching from the doors of their houses.

Even the Shadow Blades in the distance could not help but furrow their brows as they watched Simon.

It was not only because of the utter unveiled arrogance they could all hear in his voice, his actions also planted a seed of wariness in the minds and hearts of the Initiates.

Meanwhile, under the chilling gaze of Simon’s eyes, the two Initiates did not dare to dillydally any longer.

Without hesitation, they transferred all their merits to Simon by shaking his hand.

To transfer merits from one individual to another, all that was needed was for the two individuals to shake their hands or at least, ensure that the Grave Mark of both individuals touch one another.

It was that simple.

Even though the last Initiate was unconscious, Simon did not let him go.

He ordered the two conscious Initiates to wake him up with force, and after they did that, Simon ruthlessly collected all the merits of the poor boy.

Fortunately for the kid, he was a demon, and demons were not like humans who were extremely fragile.

Such an injury which would be life threatening to a human was not life threatening to Lesser Demons and above.

Killing a demon was not as easy as killing a human.

After collecting all the merits of the three kids, Simon now had a total of one hundred and sixty (160) merits.

He was not certain how many merits Thorgan, Sunless, Jorra, and Merath had, but he had a feeling that he was one of the richest, if not the richest in Row C.

’I guess… Life in the clan might turn out a lot better than I expected after all.’

Although it seemed like he had made a mistake letting the candidates live back then since he had made a lot of enemies as a result of his decision, he would still make the same decision even if he had knowledge of the future.

In fact, he already expected such a thing to happen.

He knew that the chances of his classmates not putting two and two together after the results of his second trial is made known, would be very low.

But even though he expected such a thing, he was not bothered because he believed that it would just be more of an annoyance than a life threatening situation that would occur.

However, because of his slave status, the life threatening situation he didn’t expect was what was currently happening.

’My status as a slave has made it possible for these kids to try and kill me with very low repercussions from the clan.’

’Unfortunately, I can’t kill them because I’m a slave. The clan rules forbids clan members from killing one another, and the punishment for doing that is merit deduction.’

’But as a slave… If I kill a clan member, my punishment would be more severe than the others. And in the worst case scenario, I would be killed.’

Simon’s mind went through several possible scenarios that could occur once classes began the following day, and also if he decided to do what he planned on doing.

As he moved across several stairs, bridges, and causeways, he finally appeared in front of a building.

At the top of the building was a title.

Intelligence Office

Simon glanced at the title for a moment before pushing the door open and entering.

The Intelligence Office reminded Simon of the guild halls back on Earth. Only difference was that everywhere was dim and quiet.

Simon

Arranged at multiple places on the walls of the buildings were counters which had Whisperers behind them.

There were some clan members sitting on the benches and chairs arranged in the hall, and some were in front of certain counters, requesting information from the Whisperers behind the counters.

The lips of the Whisperers and clan members were moving, but no sound could be heard from them.

Many of the clan members here were Shadow Blades with a few being Veilmasters.

Some stared in Simon’s direction, and when they saw that he was an Initiate, they were slightly surprised. However, they didn’t dwell too much on it.

Simon took another look around, then he walked up to one of the counters.

The Whisperer behind the counter was a Prime Archfiend, and the moment the Whisperer saw Simon, their brows furrowed.

’An Initiate? A Superior Lesser Demon? I don’t recognize him. Is he one of the new Initiates that just got registered?’The Whisperer thought.

“I want to purchase an information.” Simon said calmly, and the Whisperer looked at him with raised brows.

“What information?” She asked while doubting if Simon would be able to have enough merits to buy any information.

’Unless it’s basic information that can be found in the Grave Mark.’

Simon could guess the thoughts of the Whisperer, but he didn’t care. All he needed was the information he wanted to buy.

“Game Master Pellin. I need information on him.”

The Whisperer’s brows jumped in surprise the moment she heard this. She was not expecting such a request from a mere Initiate.

“What sort of information do you need?”

Although she was surprised, she was experienced. She knew how to quickly control her emotions and act professional.

“His heart rank, bloodline, battle prowess, weapons, abilities, connections with Shadow Blades and Veilmasters, his current location, and the location of his home.”

The Veilmaster was taken aback once again, and she instantly knew that the only reason Simon wanted this information was to either battle or kill Pellin.

There was no other reason.

’But he’s a Lesser Demon and Pellin is an Archfiend, how could he think of killing Pellin? And why would an Initiate want to kill Pellin? Is he already backed by a higher ranking clan member? Because that can only be why he wants all these information on his first day as an Initiate.’

“All that information would cost you sixty seven thousand (67,000) merits.”

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
