The Broken Halo Chapter 137

Chapter 137: Devoured Him

As the blood of Pellin’s only son – Junior- fell in copious amount on the ground, the entire world seemed to fall silent.

Junior was wearing a short dark tunic with loose trousers tucked into small leather boots. His tusks were only small nubs, and his bright and curious golden-brown eyes became dim as his life slowly left him.

At first, Pellin stared frozen as he watched his son bleed to death.

His mind went blank, and he felt like his soul had shattered.

He could not think.

He could not see.

The world seemed to be in the crimson colour of his son.

His mind was filled the image of his son’s lifeless eyes.

The pain he felt in his heart, soul, and body was a thousand times greater than anything he had ever felt.

This was a pain he could not even begin to describe.

It was a pain that broke him.

A few seconds later, he saw Simon gently place the corpse of his son on the ground, and his entire body shook.

“HMMM! UGGHHHH!!! HMMM!”

He trashed around while still remaining on his knees. His eyes were blood shot, tears of blood streamed down his face, and the killing intent in his eyes as he stared at Simon was as vast as seven seas.

He wanted to scream.

He wanted to roar.

He wanted to rage.

He wanted to kill.

He wanted to destroy.

He wanted to slaughter.

He wanted to BREAK EVERYTHING!

But the Chaos Wraps and the Chaos Blade in his mouth prevented him from doing these things.

Simon watched Pellin with calm, indifferent eyes. He stood, then he approached the pig.

With an utterly cold and indifferent expression, he stared down at him like how a man viewed ants crawling on the ground.

“Goodnight.”

Simon held the Chaos Blade, then he swung it up, splitting Pellin’s head in two.

Pellin’s expression of pure hatred remained in his face and in his eyes even after his death.

Thud

He fell to the ground after Simon released the Chaos Wraps around him.

Blood splattered all over Simon’s feet and clothes as Pellin’s corpse fell, and Simon stared at it for some seconds before releasing a deep sigh.

He looked around him, seeing the corpses of Pellin, his wife, and his child.

Blood puddles and blood stains could be seen all over the house, and Simon released another deep sigh.

“This wasn’t what I wanted.”

His mind and heart were about to delve deep into the thoughts that were threatening to burst into his mind. However, Simon knew he had a lot to do.

He had spent far longer than he wished in Pellin’s home, and things had escalated beyond what he expected.

“I need to clean up this mess.” Simon looked around with a frown, then his gaze landed on the body of Pellin’s wife.

He could see the blood beneath her corpse flowing outside the door, and his expression became grave.

’That could draw the attention of people outside.’

Without wasting a single second, he approached the wife’s corpse, and he lookked at the it for a second before crouching and touching it.

“Devour.”

The moment he did this, it was like a suction force was emitted from his palm.

Every single liquid in the wife’s corpse was being absorbed into him.

The word ’liquid’ was not the right word to use to describe what was truly happening in the corpse, but because the corpse was becoming dry and seemingly old, it looked like what Simon was absorbing were the liquids in her body, when it was not just that.

Simon could feel himself absorbing a lot more than that, and at the same time, it felt like he was missing out on so many things he could absorb.

He frowned deeply as heDevourworked its magic, and six seconds later, there was nothing else to devour, so he stopped.

What was left was a dessicated corpse that looked like it had been dead for decades. There was nothing to show that this was Pellin’s wife aside from her clothes.

Even her aura and demonic energy which would usually be in her bones were no more.

Simon closed his eyes as he focused on the changes that were occuring in his body.

’Devour… It seems there’s more to Devour than devouring the physical attributes and demonic energy of the devoured victims. If I use it continuously and with the assistance of the Seven Stars Blessing, I should be able to understand more about Devour and possibly even devour more than just the physical attributes and their demonic energy.’

’I have a feeling that I might be able to absorb more than the physical attributes and energy, but maybe even a demon’s chaos flame or their soul?’

’Could I use this to strengthen my soul? Could I gain extra body parts like that colossal demon with six arms and six eyes I saw? Could I devour a demon, human, or god’s affinity? Could I devour something more like their luck and fate?’

’There’s a lot more to Devour, and it’s going to take a while to unearth everything.’

Many thoughts went through Simon’s mind as he contemplated not only on the potential ofDevourbut how it also worked.

But even with the help of the Seven Stars Blessing, he couldn’t deny thatDevourwas not an easy skill to be proficient in.

A minute later, Simon finished digesting everything he devoured from the wife.

The wife was not powerful. She was just a Minor Fiend but he received some benefits to his body afterDevouringher.

’I had to use her demonic energy to strengthen my body instead of my Chaos Flame. If my rank suddenly increased from the Superior rank to the Supreme Rank before tomorrow morning, it would lead to many asking questions and it would also raise the suspicion of the Grave Lords.’

’I tried so hard to convince them I had no idea where the Devourer’s blood essence was. Raising my rank so quickly would be a waste of my efforts.’

Simon released a soft sigh, then he approached Pellin’s child.

With an indifferent expression, he placed his hand on the child anddevouredhim.

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
