The Broken Halo Chapter 210

Chapter 210: Eating Breakfast With Sunless

After giving everybody ten minutes to rest, Instructor Emith called Simon, Sunless, and the Initiates who were first, second, and third in their group.

She handed out the rewards promised, and the expressions of everybody changed when they saw the rewards.

The first reward was a bottle of blood, but this blood was a combination of several bloods and its main purpose was to restore the stamina of Fiends and Lesser Demons.

This was a very useful reward when one recalled that they had another physical class, and this time around, the class was compulsory.

As for the second and last reward, it was a pair of black bracelets and ankle weights.

These were meant to used by them to train their bodies, and the expressions of Simon and every other person who received their rewards was ugly.

They were all expecting rewards that would be very useful and would cause others to drool with envy.

However, their rewards made their classmates to snicker in disdain at them.

’Why did I ever expect a good reward from her? Bastards like her would always give rewards that are used to assist one in training.’

Simon shook his head, but he still accepted his rewards.

Even though the rewards were not appealing to him, they were actually useful.

The blood energy drink especially.

Simon drank it immediately after he took his rewards, and he felt his stamina increase at a rapid rate.

His other classmates observed him for a moment, then they followed suit and also drank their blood energy drinks.

Some minutes later, Instructor Emith announced that the class was over for the day, and every single member of the class including Simon, was relieved.

Simon was amongst the first individual to leave the class, and he made sure to leave without giving even a glance to the Instructor.

To his immense relief, he was not called back by Instructor Emith.

After leaving the class, the anxiety that was in his heart instantly dissipated and his steps became calm and slow.

“Now, what do I do?”

They had about one hour and thirty minutes left before the Vertical Mobility class, and since his stamina was being rapidly recovered by the blood energy drink, he didn’t have to spend the time to rest.

Sigh. I never knew I’d be facing this sort of problem.”

He ruffled his white hair in frustration as he leaned on the wall of a building.

’Maybe I’ll just walk around. I was not able to walk around the campus because of the Iron Fangs yesterday. I can also get some food on the way.’

He stretched his arms and neck, letting out a satisfied sigh. He then turned and was about to start his sightseeing journey, but after taking three steps, he paused with a surprised and baffled expression.

“Hey.”

Standing a few meters in front of him was shockingly Sunless, and shockingly again, she spoke.

“Hey.” Simon said with a baffled expression.

“Want to get breakfast together?”

“…” Simon blinked in confusion and for the first time since he reincarnated in the demon realm, he was tongue-tied.

Of all the things he expected from her, her asking him to eat together was not part of the list at all.

Sunless tilted her head slightly a few seconds when Simon did not give a response and was just staring at her blankly.

“You good?” She asked, and Simon shook his head softly.

“Yeah… Sure thing, we can get dinner together.”

Sunless nodded, and it was a weird thing to Simon because he could not see her face. Unlike his mask and the masks of other members of the clan, there was no eyehole or mouth hole on the mask.

’I wonder why she wants to eat together. Surely, it’s not just because she wants to be friends or that she’s interested in me.’

The main reason why Simon did not refuse to have breakfast was because he believed that Sunless had a reason for wanting to have breakfast with him, and he was curious as to what it was.

Simon glanced at her, then he continued walking beside her without saying a word.

None could see their faces, but Simon’s white hair, his physique, and his demeanour combined with Sunny’s black hair, perfectly shaped body, and goddess-like demeanor made those who saw both of them walking together to believe that they were a match made in hell.

However, the other Year Ones who saw both of them walking together were shocked and stunned. They could not believe that the cold, distant, silent, and mysterious demoness of their class was walking with the slave of their class.

For some, the hatred and anger they had toward Simon increased drastically because they desired the cold and mysterious Sunless.

But did Simon care about all these things?

Of course not.

Some minutes later, both Simon and Sunless stood in the cafeteria of the academy with their foods placed right in front of them.

This time around, Simon was not frugal in his spending.

A plate with boiled eggs of demonic bald eagles, a plate with roasted demonic mountain goats, and the shadow wolf soup.

As for Sunless, her food was strange.

It was a brain.

The raw brain of a shadow monkey.

’I honestly thought I heard wrong when she ordered for the brain of a shadow monkey. If I knew that it was actually a brain, I would not have ordered my food because I can feel myself losing my appetite.’

Although Simon felt slightly disgusted watching Sunless eat the raw brain of a shadow monkey, there was no way he was going to waste his food.

He too began to eat.

There was silence between both of them, and Simon took note of his surroundings out of instinct, but he saw nothing out of the ordinary aside from the few glances thrown at them.

Seeing that Sunless was not saying anything, he decided to ask.

“Well, I appreciate the fact that I’m eating breakfast with a beauty like you, there’s definitely a reason why you wanted to eat with me.”

Sunless paused, then she wiped her blood stained mouth.

“How do you know I’m beautiful? I doubt you’ve even seen my full face. This should be the first time you’re seeing my face, and it’s only a portion of my lower face.”

Simon smiled behind his mask. “Girls like you are always beautiful.”

Sunless remained silent, then she chuckled.

“Alright. Thank you for the compliment then. I hope I won’t disappoint you in the future with my appearance.”

Simon did not say anything and just behind his mask, then Sunless spoke.

“Anyway, I actually wanted to ask about your friend, Shadow.”

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
