The Broken Halo Chapter 488

Chapter 488: Talking Monkey

The appearance of the Winter Monkey shocked First Blade, Lucien, and the Winter Monkey itself.

Despite the Winter Monkey being as small as a human child, the aura it radiated was nothing to scoff at.

The Winter Monkey looked around in confusion, and the first thing it looked at was the frozen blood in front of First Blade.

Its gaze turned cold and sharp when it saw it.

“You’ve realized the situation haven’t you?”

Simon suddenly spoke, and Lucien, First Blade, and the Winter Monkey looked at him.

When Lucien and First Blade saw that he was speaking to the monkey, they both had strange expressions.

Even though the Winter Monkey was intelligent, speaking to a monkey that could not talk would still seem weird regardless.

Especially when the monkey was as small as a human child.

Meanwhile, the Winter Monkey looked at Simon but it didn’t respond to his words.

Simon did not mind. He continued speaking.

“You’re going to fight for us, but we’ll help you.”

This time around, the Winter Monkey reacted to Simon’s words.

It gave Simon a strange look, and if it spoke, it would have said- “And what makes you think that I’ll fight for you?”

Simon could understand the thoughts of the Winter Monkey from its expression, but he didn’t care.

“If you agree to fight for us, nod your head and I’ll free you from your chains.”

The Winter Monkey’s eyes flashed with a cold and calculating glint.

It was about to nod, but Lucien quickly spoke up.

“You honestly can’t be that stupid, right?”

Simon looked at the Frostborn prodigy with raised brows.

“You want to release it if it nods?”

Lucien scoffed in anger and disdain.

“If you release the Winter Monkey, the first thing it’ll do is to rip both of us to shreds and because of how smart it is, it would most likely choose to escape instead of fighting that old demon.”

First Blade also shared the same thoughts as Lucien, and he could not help but look at Simon strangely.

At first, he was a bit worried when he saw the Winter Monkey and perceived its aura, believing that it was Simon’s trumpcard.

But after carefully observing the Winter Monkey and the situation, he realized that there was nothing to be afraid of.

If Simon truly released the Winter Monkey, it would definitely choose to kill them first.

’But I won’t allow a beast to kill my vessel. I’d rather die than watch that happen before my very eyes.’

While First Blade had this thought, the Winter Monkey could not help but glare at Lucien.

The fool was about to release it, but this damned Frostborn prevented that from happening.

When Lucien saw this, he scoffed.

“You think you’re so smart huh?”

The Winter Monkey narrowed its eyes, then it looked at Simon.

Simon looked back at the monkey, and to the complete shock of everybody… The Winter Monkey spoke.

“If you release, I swear that I’ll fight for you. And even if I can’t win, I’ll make sure that we all escape with our lives intact.”

The Winter Monkey’s voice was comparable to the voice of a young human boy, completely matching his stature.

However, if anybody was observant enough, they would notice that hidden in that voice was a sort of maturity that betrayed the Winter Monkey’s true age.

Simon, Lucien, and First Blade were all shocked by the fact that the Winter Monkey spoke.

None could give a response for the first five seconds.

“Elder Mulon never told me that you could speak.” Lucien mumbled softly as he stared at the Winter Monkey like it was the most valuable treasure in the world.

The way Simon too looked at the Winter Monkey changed.

The Winter Monkey was definitely not the first demonic beast to have the ability of speech.

There were many demonic beasts that could speak, but for a demonic beast to be able to talk, they had to become Abyssal Beasts which were comparable to Demon Lords.

If a demonic beast had the ability to speak before becoming an Abyssal Beast, it usually meant the beast was highly intelligent and its sea of consciousness was far above beasts of its peers.

Basically, such beasts were rare and were very valuable.

Even First Blade was a little bit tempted by the Winter Monkey, but at the end of the day, the Winter Monkey was not a good fit for him in any way, so he ignored it.

As for Simon, he exhaled softly.

“This changes things then.”

The Winter Monkey tilted his head in confusion, and his confusion deepened when Simon placed his hand on his head.

“It might make things more difficult, but a beast is still a beast.”

Lucien, First Blade, and the Winter Monkey all had baffled expressions.

But in the next moment, they all heard squeaking sounds.

Squeak Squeak

Squeak Squeak

They were even more baffled, but then they saw rats appear from Simon’s forehead and they jumped on his arm and ran toward the Winter Monkey’s head.

The moment they reached the head of the Winter Monkey, they sank into it.

The rats were black and intangible, and they seemed to be made out a black smoke and liquid at the same time.

At first it was just one, then two, then three, then six, then ten, then twelve.

The black rats just kept on appearing from Simon’s forehead and sinking into the head of the Winter Monkey.

At first, none of them could understand what was going on.

Not until the Winter Monkey started clutching his head and screaming loudly in pain.

“STOP!”

“STOPPPPP!!!!”

Despite the pleas and screams of the Winter Monkey, the black rats kept on sinking into his head.

And it was only after the thirtieth rat sank into the head of the Winter Monkey that the rats stopped pouring out of Simon’s head like a plague.

However, the screams of the Winter Monkey continued.

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
