Simon acted immediately.

He grabbed the Chaos Blade with his left hand, and with a mere thought, black flames erupted all over it.

He swung the sword at the wall of roots.

Chi

Crackle

Chi

A long horizontal cut appeared on the wall of roots, and chaos flames also burned the roots, turning them to ashes.

He had a feeling that if he tried using normal methods like sending a wind blade at the wall of roots, something that would truly piss him off would occur.

Caesar was an extremely annoying demon, and he doubted that he would make it easy for him to break through the wall of roots.

So, why not use a method that was certain to work?

Sonya, Akaza, Jorra, Merath, and Sunless all had baffled expressions when they saw the chaos flames.

What in the world were those flames?

They could instinctively feel it.

They could feel their chaos flames becoming fearful, tame, and also… desire for those flames.

But what in the world was the black flame around Simon’s sword?

“Move.”

Simon’s cold voice brought the group out of their stunned states.

They looked at one another, then they quickly followed after Simon who did not bother waiting for them before he started running.

As Simon ran, he controlled UnholyRegeneration as it restored his hand.

From the moment he cut off his hand, the skill started attempting to restore his hand.

He glanced at his hand, until he perceived a presence in front of him.

His eyes sharpened.

A Supreme Archfiend suddenly leapt from one of the nearby rooftops with greed burning in his eyes. The demon held a pair of curved daggers and his demonic energy surged wildly.

“Broken Halo!”

The demon’s roar was filled with excitement

A million low grade hell stones.

That was all the demon could think about.

Unfortunately for him, Simon was not in the best of moods and he was definitely not in the mood to entertain him.

The Chaos Blade flashed.

A black line appeared across the demon’s neck.

The demon’s body continued moving forward for a few more steps before his head slid off his shoulders.

Simon did not even slow down.

The group continued running through the ruined district, and the moment the demon’s corpse fell, more figures emerged.

Some came from the rooftops.

Some came from the bridges above.

Others rushed toward them from nearby streets.

The bounty had completely driven them mad.

“Stop him!”

“Broken Halo is here!”

“Don’t let him escape!”

Simon’s expression remained cold despite their words and numbers.

“Sonya.”

The little demoness grinned beneath her mask.

“Finally.”

Boom!

She stomped her foot, and a second later, the earth instantly exploded upward.

Several jagged pillars erupted beneath the charging demons and launched them into the air. Bones shattered. Blood sprayed. Cries of pain echoed throughout the ravine.

But Sonya was not done.

She stomped again.

The ground behind the demons rose like a massive wall and crashed forward.

Boom!

The charging demons were smashed into nearby buildings.

“HAHA! This Honourable is worth more than all of you combined!”

The surviving demons cursed loudly and attacked even more fiercely.

Simon ignored them.

His gaze remained fixed on the distant watchtower.

That was all that mattered.

He glanced at his right hand which was 90% healed at this point.

Sunless, Sonya, Akaza, Jorra, and Merath took note of his hand. Though they were shocked and had questions, they didn’t ask because of their situation.

A Veilmaster suddenly descended from above.

The Veilmaster was a Half-Step Greater Demon, and it was obvious that he was talented considering that he was a Veilmaster.

The demon held a spear and aimed directly for Simon’s head.

Unlike the Shadow Blades and other demons who roared and screamed, he was silent.

His eyes gleamed with coldness and killing intent.

Before Simon could react, a black arrow suddenly pierced through the demon’s eye.

The Veilmaster’s body froze midair, his only good eye widening in shock and disbelief.

Then another arrow pierced his throat.

The demon fell from the sky like a broken puppet.

Simon looked back and when he saw Sunless calmly lowering her bow, he nodded at her.

She nodded back, then she nocked another arrow while carrying Merath.

A moment later, another demon appeared behind the group. The demon was a Superior Archfiend, and Akaza glanced at him.

The Martial Demon did not even stop running while still carrying Jorra.

He simply threw a punch that was powered by gravity.

Boom!

The demon exploded into a bloody mist.

Akaza continued moving forward as if nothing had happened.

The fleeing group rapidly crossed another bridge. Behind them, more and more clan members were gathering.

The number was increasing.

Dozens.

Then hundreds.

The entire clan seemed to be converging on their location.

Simon’s eyes narrowed.

’This is becoming annoying.’

Just as he was thinking this, a powerful aura descended from above.

A Greater Demon.

The demon landed directly in front of them, and Simon recognized him immediately.

Instructor Sormon from the academy.

The instructor who was a Cragborn and who disliked Simon because of his slave status.

Sormon’s eyes burned with greed.

“Broken Halo.”

The instructor smiled.

“Looks like my luck is quite good.”

Simon did not respond.

The broken ring in his eyes emitted a dark glow and began rotating.

“A slave should always-”

The instructor’s words were cut short as his body was split in two.

The last thing Sormon saw was the Simon in front of him dissipate into a black mist.

Silence briefly appeared on the battlefield.

The surrounding demons looked at the corpse with shocked expressions.

Even some of the demons chasing them subconsciously slowed down.

Did Simon just kill a Greater Demon?

In a single strike?

Many demons were shaken.

Despite the fact that Simon and his companions had killed over a dozen demons in total, the death of a Greater Demon was enough to make many of them have second thoughts.

Even Sonya and the rest could not help but look at Simon with shocked expressions.

When did Simon become so strong?

As for Simon?

His gaze remained fixed ahead.

The ruined watchtower was becoming closer and closer.

Smoke still rose from the shattered structure.

Broken stones still littered the area around it.

And around the tower itself were dozens of demons.

Simon’s eyes and heart burned with a blazing fighting spirit and killing intent.

He pointed the Chaos Blade at the demons.

“Kill!”

Simon’s killing intent blazed like the sun, and he charged at the demons.

His enemies were terrified because of his killing intent.

As for Sunless, Sonya, and Akaza?

They were excited and their chaos flames became extremely excited.

They all charged at the demons in front of the watchtower.

Unfortunately… something which Simon never expected happened.

The watchtower exploded.

BOOOOOOM!!!!

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
