The Broken Halo Chapter 68

Chapter 68: Demon Beasts & Points

In the demon realm, there were other species aside from demons, and these species were called Demon Beasts or beasts by demons.

Demon Beasts were not so much different from demons in the sense that they both used demonic energy, and they both had a chaos and a demon heart.

However, unlike demons who could reason after getting to a certain age, demon beasts were innately vicious and cruel.

They were like the wild animals on Earth who killed and hunted to survive.

Just like demons, demon beasts also had ranks based on their demon heart and chaos flame.

The weakest demon beasts were called Lesser Beasts by the demons. And just like Lesser Demons, they possessed a Flickering Heart.

The second weakest beasts were called Dire Beasts, and Dire Beasts were like Fiends who possess a Burning Heart.

The third weakest beasts were called Dread Beasts, and Dread Beasts were similar to Archfiends. They possess an Infernal Heart.

Then the next beast rank are the Calamity Beasts. They are similar to Greater Demons who possess a Forged Heart.

After that, the next beasts are called Abyssal Beasts. They are similar to Demon Lords who possess an Abyssal Heart.

And then, the last and most powerful demon beasts are called Catastrophe Beasts. They are similar to Demon Kings who possess a Cataclysm Heart.

Just like humans, every demon beasts was further categorized into Minor grade, Prime grade, Superior grade, and Supreme grade.

These were the ranks of demon beasts, and demon beasts also possessed bloodline ranks, but such information was not needed for the second trial.

After asking the Veilmaster for more details about the second trial, the Veilmaster explained it better, and he knew why the Veilmaster and the clan recommended that the second trial be done in groups.

For a single candidate to try and pass the trial on their own, it was extremely difficult and nearly impossible.

To pass the second trial, one needed at least one hundred and twenty points (120 points), and killing beasts gave points.

A Minor Lesser Beast gave just one (1) point.

A Prime Lesser Beast gave two (2) points.

A Superior Lesser Beast gave three (3) points.

A Supreme Lesser Beast gave five (5) points.

A Minor Dire Beast gave eight (8) points.

A Prime Dire Beast gave twelve (12) points.

A Superior Dire Beast gave eighteen (18) points.

A Supreme Dire Beast gave twenty five (25) points.

A Minor Dread Beast gave sixty (60) points.

And a Prime Dread Beast gave one hundred and twenty (120) points.

When one looked at the point allocation system to every beast rank, and the required number of points that one needed to pass the second trial, it wasn’t a surprise to Simon why it was advised that one should get a team.

Majority of the trial candidates were Prime Fiends with a few of the talented candidates being a Superior or a Supreme Fiend.

A Prime Dire Beast was comparable to a Prime Fiend, and if a Prime Fiend kills a Prime Dire Beast, the Prime Fiend only gets twelve points.

This means that the Prime Fiend would have to kill ten Prime Dire Beasts in twelve hours.

If one further considered the factor of a demon beast’s bloodline, and how it can greatly affect the strength a demon beast possessed, one can imagine just how difficult it was to kill ten beasts of a similar rank in just twelve hours.

According to the Veilmaster, the second trial would begin once the crimson moon fully sets and the black moon rises, causing the Blackwind Valley to be engulfed in total darkness.

And the trial would end once the black moon sets and the crimson moon rises.

The duration between the rising and setting of the black moon was twelve hours, and this meant that the entire Blackwind Valley would be filled with roaming monsters who loved the dark.

The more Simon thought about the second trial, the more he realized how dangerous it was.

It was why the Veilmaster had advised Simon to join a group because the Veilmaster could sense that Simon was just a Minor Lesser Demon.

And if he wanted to pass the trial on his own, he would need to kill one hundred and twenty (120) Minor Lesser Beasts in just twelve hours.

Withstanding the fact that killing one hundred and twenty beasts in twelve hours was insane, there was the issue of if he would even be able to find so many beasts in less than a day.

The only way he could pass the trial quickly was if he killed Dire Beasts or a Dread Beast.

But the Veilmaster did not believe that Simon was capable of such a thing.

He believed that Simon was talented since only somebody with talent would be able to get here first at a much earlier time than the others, but he didn’t believe Simon was so talented he’d be able to kill Dire Beasts or a Dread Beast as a Minor Lesser Demon.

Simon could accurately guess the thoughts of the Veilmaster, but his concerns and worries were not truly on the beasts he’d have to fight.

Instead, it was on the fact that the Veilmaster told him that a Minor Dread Beast was worth sixty (60) points and a Prime Dread Beast was worth one hundred and twenty (120) points.

For the Veilmaster to tell him such a thing, then it meant that a Dread Beast was going to be present in their trial.

It was something he could not ignore for several reasons, and the main one was not to be careful and to be the lookout for the beast.

No

What truly bothered him was that for the clan to allow a Dread Beast to be in their trial, then it must mean that there was a candidate or candidates who were capable of fighting a Dread Beast.

To be able to fight and kill a Dread Beast, one needed to be an Archfiend or an extremely talented Supreme Fiend.

The difference between a Fiend and an Archfiend, or between a Dire Beast and a Dread Beast was extremely vast.

However, many of the candidates were Prime Fiends, and the strongest candidates he had sensed back then were Supreme Fiends.

He had not sensed an Archfiend, and if there was no Archfiend present, then the chances of them killing a Prime Dread Beast especially, was extremely low.

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
