The Kings Mistress Chapter 205

Trapped[ … words ]

Ida paused for a moment. She didn’t know how to respond at first. She has silently observed everything from the sidelines, trying to remain unseen while assisting Sierra to the best of her abilities.

She bit her lip, “You would make a great Queen, Your Grace. Regardless of which Kingdom you oversee. I don’t know much about politics or the rules for it but… what’s stopping you from being the Queen of both kingdoms?”

She knew Ida was right. Before Alistair left, he’d informed her of the most shocking news she did receive in a while. Roxine had put her plan in place earlier than anticipated and in a way none of them saw coming.

The position of Queen in Drakin was empty. But right of succession, the Noble Consort in line would take the seat. That meant Cassandra would become Queen by right. Sierra crossed her arms, deep in thought.

Was she ready to contest that?

Pushing that out of her mind, she turned back to Ida and thanked her for her advice.

“I hope I didn’t overstep, Your Grace,” Ida said as she lowered her head.

“You’ve never overstepped, Ida. You’ve always been my strongest supporter, I wouldn’t have made it this far without you.”

That night, Sierra had yet another sleepless night. She had hoped her mind would be a little more at ease with all that has happened. But with Cedric still on the loose, she could not seem to rest. The horrors of the atrocities he’s committed were revealed little by little as time went by.

“I need a drink,” she muttered to herself as she got out of bed and poured herself a glass of whiskey.

She walked out into the corridor and headed to the gardens in the center of the estate. Little did she know, she had let her guard down too easily. A cold shiver ran down her spine as she felt the cold tip of a steel blade at the nape of her neck.

Sierra closed her eyes and cursed beneath her breath.

“How have you been, Sierra?” Cedric asked with a wide grin.

He pressed the blade against her skin, drawing the tiniest bit of blood.

“I’ve been better,” she replied curtly.

She tried reaching down to the dagger she had hidden, but Cedric grabbed hold of her hand.

“Don’t you dare try anything,” he warned through gritted teeth.

“Hah! To think that you were untouchable. And now, you’re mine to toy with,” he teased as he wrapped his arm around her waist and held her tight, “Without your precious king to protect you, what would you do, Sierra Bancroft?”

Sierra kept her calm. Any sudden movements could turn things ugly in a matter of seconds. She didn’t want to let Cedric get his way, nor did she want to give him the pleasure of a quick death. Hence, the only way to go about this was to play along.

She would play his games and wait for the right moment to strike.

’Let me swallow him whole,’ Opal’s voice was filled with rage, echoing in her mind.

’Opal, I need you to hide,’ Sierra said to her in haste.

’Hide? What for?’

’For the right moment.’

Cryptic as that may be, Opal knew there was no time to argue with her. So, the little snake carefully slithered down Sierra’s wrist and disappeared into the grass. The gardens were dimly lit, there was no possible way Cedric would have sensed anything was amiss.

With Sierra in his hands, he was getting cocky again. The stale smell of alcohol on his breath comforted her. If his senses were dulled, her chances of survival increased. She could easily outsmart him. But even that would cheapen his downfall.

Cedric dragged Sierra out of the gardens and into the nearby forest. He brought her all the way to a cliff. He still had his blade pressed against her neck.

“Cedric, what do you want with me?” She asked him calmly, even sounding a little annoyed.

Just what was this man thinking?

“Shut up! Just shut up!” He yelled at her.

She winced at his raised voice, her eardrums ached. He brought her close to the edge of the cliff. A quick glance down at the cliffside made her heart pound. She gulped, realizing what he was going to do.

It was time for her to play the role of the damsel.

“What… what do you think you’re trying to do?” She shrieked in fear, making sure her voice quivered and quickened her breathing.

“You’ve ruined everything for me, Sierra. Everything! I worked so hard to build it all and you took everything away!” He threatened.

“I’m going to have my way with you and throw you off this cliff,” he threatened in a low monotonous voice.

“You wouldn’t dare!” She quaked in fear as she attempted to struggle out of his grasp unsuccessfully.

She let her eyes water, dry heaved a little to make it all believable.

“Please, Cedric… please…” she begged.

Cedric grinned, he’d been waiting for this very moment. The moment Sierra would grovel to him and beg him to spare her. He let out a maniacal laugh, relishing in her begging.

“Please? Please what? Tell me, Sierra, what is it that you want?” He ran his hand down the length of her body.

She was not about to let him take things this far. She quickly caught hold of his hand before he could do anything else and twisted it. Cedric yelled in pain. In his moment of distraction, Sierra also removed his sword from his hands, sending it flying over the edge of the cliff into oblivion.

Sierra wanted to call for Opal to come to her aid but quickly realized her snake seemed to be nowhere near. It didn’t matter, she has everything under her control.

“Please Cedric,” her voice turned cold, “After all this time, did you still think I was a damsel? You really didn’t know me at all.”

Synopsis

Princess Sierra left her home kingdom behind to become the concubine of King Alistair. That is what everyone believes. That is what the official records state. That is what the marriage contract declares.

But here is the truth. Sierra is no princess.

She is the adopted daughter of a general, a knightess trained for battle, not for ballrooms. Her hands are more comfortable holding a sword than a silk fan. Her heart understands loyalty, duty, and sacrifice. It does not understand politics, lies, or pretending to be someone she is not.

Yet there she stands, dressed in royal silks, wearing a false crown, playing a role that was forced upon her. The real princess could not, or would not, accept this marriage. So threats were made. Arms were twisted. A knightess was threatened and given a false title to take the place of the woman who was supposed to be here.

Every day in King Alistair's court is a battle Sierra was never trained to fight. One wrong word could expose her. One suspicious glance could unravel everything. The servants watch. The nobles whisper. The truth waits like a blade hanging over her neck.

But fate has a cruel and wonderful sense of humor.

Despite all the odds, despite the lies stacked against them, despite the fact that she is not the woman he thinks she married, King Alistair falls hopelessly in love with her. Not with the false princess. Not with the title. With Sierra. The knightess. The fighter. The woman who never wanted any of this.

He looks at her like she hung the stars. He defends her against every whispering courtier. He gives her the one thing no one ever offered before. His heart.

And Sierra? She is falling too. Straight into the arms of a man who has no idea who she really is.

What will happen when her identity is revealed? Will their love survive the truth, or will the lies destroy everything they have built? The kingdom wants an answer. The court wants a scandal. Sierra just wants to know if love can be stronger than a crown.
