The Kings Mistress Chapter 221

Blessing or curse?[ … words ]

[ … words ]

Agnes lunged at Sierra. Using the chains and the momentum of the swing, she narrowly dodged the attack. Sierra winced in pain as her movement stretched her open wound.

Agnes hit against the wall behind Sierra, but that did not stop her. It angered her even more.

Sierra needed to do something fast. Remembering what Vy taught her, Sierra decided to put it to good use. She closed her eyes and regulated her breathing.

“Oh, are you praying for someone to come save you? News flash, Your Majesty! No one can save you from me now!”

Agnes could hear the whispers in her mind, cheering her on. They were egging her on to do what she had set out to do. She raised her hand, which now resembled a crystal tiger paw, and she brought it down in one quick motion.

Blood splattered everywhere, Sierra cried out in pain. The searing pain of the fresh wound was too much for her to bear. Memories of the past, of wartime, resurfaced in her mind.

She recalled the countless injuries she had suffered during that time, she recalled the countless deaths she had witnessed. Sierra recalled the soldiers she had killed. Her hands were stained with blood and so were her blades. Perhaps this was her retribution for the sins she had committed.

’Perhaps I don’t deserve him after all,’ She thought to herself.

Still, Sierra persisted in achieving her dragon form. Without Opal to support her, she would have to become her own beacon of light and pray that all went well. A new source of adrenaline was pumping through her veins as she searched deep within herself for the connection she sought.

Agnes, annoyed by Sierra’s lack of screams and begging, grabbed her by her hair. She winced in pain as she glared at Agnes.

“How does it feel? How does it feel to be beneath me?” Agnes mocked as she threw Sierra straight into the ground, causing her to blackout.

Her vision went dark. Sierra could feel herself slipping deeper into the abyss, the void. She desperately tried to reach for the light above, but it was useless. She continued falling further down.

“No!” She yelled out, waving her hands, trying to use any bit of strength she could muster to move upwards.

But it was all for naught. As she allowed the darkness to consume her, Sierra felt tears rolling down her cheek. Even till the end, she was not able to see Alistair for one last farewell.

Their last conversation together was through a letter. Their last face-to-face was so many days ago she could barely remember how he looked.

“Alistair,” she whispered beneath her breath.

“My sweetling, I got you. I got you.”

Was that Alistair’s voice? Sierra could not believe it! Was she dreaming?

“My dearest love, I’m right here. I’m never leaving you again.”

It was his voice again! Sierra looked up. A light appears above once more. She could hear Alistair’s voice echoing throughout her mindscape. She knew she had to get to him.

“Alistair! Alistair!”

A force of adrenaline pushed her upwards, like a geyser pushing water up into the air. Sierra gasped for air as the blinding light above enveloped her.

When she opened her eyes once more, she was back in the present. A familiar scent permeated her senses, one that brought her peace and comfort. She could feel the warmth of his body, pressed against her own.

She looked up as she reached for his face.

“My love,” she whispered hoarsely as tears blurred her vision.

“Sierra! You’re awake!” Alistair gasped in delight as he lowered his head, allowing their forehead to touch.

She was quick to notice that his facial features were different from what she recalled. Alistair looked less human, and more like a dragon humanoid. He had a pair of horns on the top of his head, and dragon scales that lined the sides of his face. His pupils were slits instead of round irises.

It took Sierra a moment to realize she was no longer in the dungeon cell Agnes had placed her in. They were now in the open courtyard. Alistair had torn down the walls of the dungeon cell to get her out.

The cool night air was a welcome change from the stale order in the dungeon. She felt like she could breathe again.

“I thought I was never going to be able to see you again,” Sierra whispered as she cupped his cheek.

“Same here, my love. I’m glad I made it just in time,” Alistair replied with a smile.

Recalling that they were still in the middle of a battle against Agnes, Sierra looked over to search for her. The battle was not over yet. Agnes was still standing, though it seemed Alistair had managed to wound her.

She looked deranged, with a crazy look in her eyes. She was looking less and less human with each passing second. Sierra could not understand. How was it possible that the Patron’s blessing became more of a curse?

“Something isn’t right,” Alistair whispered, confirming Sierra’s suspicions.

He gently placed Sierra down on the ground, leaning her back against some rubble. But she didn’t want to let him go, worrying that they would be separated again. Alistair crouched down and caressed her cheek.

He kissed her gently on the lips, not wanting to aggravate any of her injuries. Sierra refused to let him go, wanting to deepen the kiss and savor the taste of his lips. He didn’t want to pull away either.

But they were in the middle of a battle after all.

“We can continue this… little session after things are settled, my sweetling,” Alistair mused with a light chuckle.

Sierra laughed too, blushing beet red when she realized what she was trying to do. She winced in pain as laughing caused her wounds to hurt.

“Alright. Come back soon, don’t take too long,”

Alistair got up to his feet and cracked his knuckles as he walked over to Agnes. Sierra realized just how different his form was. He even had a tail behind his back.

Synopsis

Princess Sierra left her home kingdom behind to become the concubine of King Alistair. That is what everyone believes. That is what the official records state. That is what the marriage contract declares.

But here is the truth. Sierra is no princess.

She is the adopted daughter of a general, a knightess trained for battle, not for ballrooms. Her hands are more comfortable holding a sword than a silk fan. Her heart understands loyalty, duty, and sacrifice. It does not understand politics, lies, or pretending to be someone she is not.

Yet there she stands, dressed in royal silks, wearing a false crown, playing a role that was forced upon her. The real princess could not, or would not, accept this marriage. So threats were made. Arms were twisted. A knightess was threatened and given a false title to take the place of the woman who was supposed to be here.

Every day in King Alistair's court is a battle Sierra was never trained to fight. One wrong word could expose her. One suspicious glance could unravel everything. The servants watch. The nobles whisper. The truth waits like a blade hanging over her neck.

But fate has a cruel and wonderful sense of humor.

Despite all the odds, despite the lies stacked against them, despite the fact that she is not the woman he thinks she married, King Alistair falls hopelessly in love with her. Not with the false princess. Not with the title. With Sierra. The knightess. The fighter. The woman who never wanted any of this.

He looks at her like she hung the stars. He defends her against every whispering courtier. He gives her the one thing no one ever offered before. His heart.

And Sierra? She is falling too. Straight into the arms of a man who has no idea who she really is.

What will happen when her identity is revealed? Will their love survive the truth, or will the lies destroy everything they have built? The kingdom wants an answer. The court wants a scandal. Sierra just wants to know if love can be stronger than a crown.
