I spoke in a low voice, briefly glancing in John’s direction.

John, to his credit, had his eyes widened in surprise, not expecting me to call him a friend.

“Ah, okay! So you aren’t registering? I don’t want to sound rude, but may I know the reason?”

I looked into the eyes of the girl.

“Miss…”

“Ella… Ella White.”

The girl named Ella introduced herself.

“Miss White, I think you should be focusing more on those who have already enrolled their names instead of asking me.”

I paused to let the words sink in.

Ella had a frown across her face on hearing my answer.

“But–”

“Not interested.”

I cut her off before exiting the hall through the narrow space beside the two girls standing before us.

Seeing my polite rejection, Ella didn’t call me out any further, and I could sense both of them entering the council room.

I had thought Victoria would glance at my back before entering, but she did nothing of the sort.

At least that confirmed the information from the game, to some extent.

And reduced any reason for me to hold back against her, should she try to stand against me in any way in the future.

Not that I would have done anything of that sort, even if Victoria had been close to Kael.

John spoke from behind me.

I turned to look at him for a moment before resuming my walk to the class.

Taking my silence as confirmation, John went quiet for some time.

After a long pause, John cleared his throat while speaking.

“I had heard that you weren’t on good terms with your family, but seeing today, I guess the rumours were understated. You could be said to be on the worst terms, huh.”

John was speaking more to himself than to me.

I didn’t interrupt his monologue.

“I mean I kind of had an inkling when you never initiated any conversation with your siblings despite being in the same class, but this… this distaste was on a more grand scale. Hey, do—”

“John.”

I stopped for a moment before fixing my entire focus on him.

“I have no interest in discussing anything pertaining to that family. So…”

I didn’t conclude my statement, but John seemed to have received the message.

Normally, I wouldn’t say such things openly, but this guy was bound to be with me for a long time.

Couldn’t have him questioning me every now and then.

The rest of the walk continued in silence, as neither I nor John had anything to discuss.
