Legend Management Bureau Chapter 132

Someone died[ … words ]

[ … words ]

“Oh?” Cavendish was taken aback, noticing another man in black had appeared before him. This man’s aura was far beyond that of Du Yu and his fellow Controllers. Not daring to act rashly for the moment, he said, “How truly strange… What kind of magic are you using to endlessly transport Controllers here?”

“Old… Old Zhan?!” Du Yu was stunned. “I almost forgot you were still here…”

Zhan Qisheng did not speak. He slowly walked over to Yingning to check on her condition. That man named Cavendish had struck with extreme ruthlessness, directly hitting Yingning’s dantian. Fortunately, Yingning was a female ghost with an inherently intangible form, which was the only reason she hadn’t died on the spot. But if every one of his strikes was this vicious, that girl named Chada… was probably beyond saving.

“Xiao Zhan…” Yingning struggled to lift her head. “Be careful, he is a Great Luo Golden Immortal…”

“Rest assured. If I truly put my life on the line, I can make even a Great Luo Golden Immortal fall.” Zhan Qisheng gently patted Yingning. “Return to your vessel for now. Leave with Du Yu when you get the chance.”

“Xiao Zhan… I forbid you from risking your life…”

“Right, Old Zhan, one minute. As long as you can hold out for a single minute, we can leave,” Du Yu said.

Zhan Qisheng gave a slight nod and turned around to face Cavendish.

“Sir, you do not seem to be an ordinary Controller. Are you part of the management as well?”

“Oh! Sir! What are you doing? We haven’t even exchanged names yet!”

“There is no need for that.” Zhan Qisheng exerted force with his hands, forming two massive tornadoes inside the room. Tearing up the floorboards and the walls, the vortexes slowly swept toward the man before him.

The male driver and the woman named Campbell couldn’t even open their eyes in the gale. They crossed their arms over their chests to resist, but it wasn’t long before they, along with the two masked men, were blown away and smashed into the wall.

Only Zhan Qisheng and Cavendish were left standing in their original spots within the entire room.

“Powerful magic, icy aura. I like you very much. Are you interested in becoming a Controller?” Cavendish offered. “You would earn money that you could never dream of making in China.”

“Disgusting methods, annoying words. I dislike you very much. Are you interested in becoming a wandering ghost?” Zhan Qisheng replied coldly.

“Heh.” Cavendish chuckled, covering his face. “You really don’t know how to appreciate a favor.”

With that said, he shattered the ground beneath him and launched himself forward, swinging his cane in a horizontal sweep. Zhan Qisheng conjured a blast of fierce wind in his hands, forcefully deflecting the attack, but he was knocked back several steps in the process.

Cavendish did not pause. His right hand instantly turned blood-red, sprouting pitch-black nails. Emitting a bloody miasma, he clawed at Zhan Qisheng. Although Zhan Qisheng barely managed to block the strike, he suffered multiple slash wounds that began oozing terrifying black smoke.

“An evil cultivator?”

Zhan Qisheng frowned slightly, a dark energy rising on his face as well. He knew he couldn’t afford to drag out this fight; he only needed to stall for time. Consequently, a fierce wind flared up around him once more.

“Great Dao of Time! Reversal of Order!”

Zhan Qisheng shouted loudly, unleashing a strange power from his hands and aiming it at Cavendish. Unexpectedly, Cavendish stumbled backward uncontrollably and slowly sat down, assuming the exact same posture he had been in a few minutes prior.

“Eh?” He paused in surprise and remarked, “Truly astonishing! Your magic can actually force another person’s movements to rewind?”

“Five Elements Art! Wind Blade!”

Zhan Qisheng ignored the comment. Sweeping his hands, he conjured two sharp blades of wind and sent them hurtling toward Cavendish. With Cavendish currently immobilized, Zhan Qisheng was confident he could inflict a severe injury.

Accompanied by a loud crash, the two wind blades viciously struck Cavendish’s body. Yet, Cavendish remained as motionless as a stone statue. The wind blades only managed to tear through his clothing, revealing skin covered in red scales underneath.

“He’s a demon…” Dong Qianqiu whispered.

“Sister Qianqiu!” Du Yu bellowed. “All operators, throw every ability you have at him right now! Hurry! Help Old Zhan stall for time!”

The crowd in front of the screens was momentarily stunned before rushing forward, pressing their palms against the monitors one after another.

In an instant, absolute chaos erupted in the room where Du Yu and the others were located.

Fierce winds howled, heavy rain poured down, and blooming flowers blanketed the floor. The song “The East is Red” began blaring from above, while phantom rockets darted wildly around the room. Streams of floating text overlaid their vision like a barrage of bullet comments. Cavendish was utterly bewildered, feeling as though the entire world had gone mad. Before he could even speak, his vision was blocked by a flash of red, and a voice echoed in his ear saying, “Hey, punk.”

“Uh… um… I…” Cavendish fumbled for words, trying to figure out how to describe the current situation.

Zhan Qisheng made a prompt decision, his hands rapidly forming a lengthy sequence of hand seals.

“Time and Five Elements! Retrograde Wind!”

A peculiar current of air gathered on Cavendish’s body. In no time at all, bizarre winds enveloped him completely. With a wave of Zhan Qisheng’s hand, this wind dispersed outward with tremendous force, as if trying to tear the man apart from the inside out.

Du Yu noted to himself that he had only ever seen the wind blow toward a person; he had never seen a massive gale originate from within a person’s body and blow outward in all directions.

Cavendish let out a muffled groan. His clothes were shredded to pieces, and a trace of purple blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

Zhan Qisheng hadn’t expected the man’s physical body to be this resilient. He immediately formed another hand seal and chanted.

“Time and Five Elements! Reversed Flowing Fire!”

Cavendish gritted his teeth fiercely. Traces of steam rose from his body, and his skin flushed a deep red, as if a raging inferno had ignited within him.

Du Yu stared blankly at Cavendish. His torso was covered in bright red scales. Only the exposed skin looked human, but upon closer inspection, it seemed his face and arms were merely draped in a thin layer of human skin.

Dong Qianqiu checked the equipment nearby and called out, “Du Yu! It’s about time! Hurry up and get Chada ready to evacuate!”

With that said, she switched the transmission channel to Zhan Qisheng. “Zhan Qisheng, the soul-summoning equipment has been activated. You need to leave within five seconds, or the equipment will damage your soul!”

Du Yu and Zhan Qisheng both nodded in acknowledgment.

Shiranui Asuka helped Chada up, allowing her to barely stand on her own feet.

Zhan Qisheng reached out and channeled his energy. The air in front of him began to distort as he prepared to retreat.

Seeing that the enemies in front of them seemed unable to move, Du Yu suddenly had a bold idea. He rushed forward and grabbed the exquisite box resting on the table. “Sister Qianqiu, help me out! I need to transport this box!”

Zhan Qisheng was about to say something, but unable to retract his spell in time, his form distorted and he vanished from the spot, successfully departing.

At that very instant, Cavendish snapped back to his senses, glaring at Du Yu with a pair of snake-like eyes.

‘Oh no!’ Du Yu thought, realizing the situation had gone south. How could this guy recover so quickly after sustaining such heavy injuries?

Cavendish smiled faintly and vanished from his spot.

The next second, a muffled groan echoed from where Asuka and Chada were standing nearby.

Du Yu whipped his head around, only to see Cavendish appearing right in front of Chada. His hand had pierced straight through her chest.

It all happened within a matter of seconds; no one had the time to react.

“You!”

Just as he was about to speak, a wondrous power descended from the heavens. Du Yu, Shiranui Asuka, Chada, and Ramula all disappeared.

Meanwhile, Cavendish and his subordinates looked as though they had suffered a severe backlash. They spat out mouthfuls of fresh blood as their silhouettes flickered and grew translucent.

After a long while, Cavendish slowly picked himself up from the ground. He spat out another mouthful of blood and looked down at his palm, which was still clutching a faintly beating heart.

The transmission ended, the operators left their stations, and the giant screen in the Legend Administration Bureau gradually went dark.

“Ah!”

Du Yu jolted awake with a loud cry. Before him stood a multitude of immortals, led by the Queen Mother of the West and the Jade Emperor. An overwhelming sense of security instantly washed over Du Yu. He turned his head and realized he was lying on the teleportation device. Shiranui Asuka and Ramula were already sitting up. Only Chada was still lying there unmoving.

“Lord Laozun! Hurry up and save her!” Du Yu screamed.

Lord Laojun nodded slightly and said, “This venerable one is doing his best. By the way, my name is Lord Laojun.”

Golden light coalesced in Lord Laojun’s hands, continuously wandering over Chada’s body. But it wasn’t long before he began shaking his head repeatedly.

“What’s wrong? Lord Laozun, didn’t you say you could bring a person back to life even if they only had half a breath left?” Du Yu asked anxiously.

“All the meridians in her body have been severed, her limbs are shattered, and her heart is destroyed.” Lord Laojun shook his head slightly. “There is no one in this world who can save her now. By the way, my name is Lord Laojun.”

Chada coughed up another mouthful of blood and weakly opened her eyes. At this moment, she was on the verge of death, yet she felt that the pain had somewhat faded.

“Chada!” Du Yu rushed forward and grabbed her only movable hand. “I… it’s all my fault! I never thought we would attract those people…”

“No…” Chada shook her head and smiled. “Mr. Du, whether… whether you were there or not… they would never have let me go…”

Du Yu looked at Chada with a face full of guilt. If only he had been a little stronger. If only he had been a Great Luo Golden Immortal.

“Mr. Du… you helped me… recover a trace of my memories with Cathy… In those memories… I got to spend one more day with her.” Tears of blood rolled from Chada’s eyes. “Thank you…”

“Ah!” Du Yu hurriedly fished out the exquisite box from his clothes and opened it in front of Chada. “Chada, I… I don’t know if this is of any use… but I managed to snatch Cathy back…”

Chada quietly looked at Cathy inside the box. Her face was incredibly peaceful, just as adorable as she had been at six years old.

‘Cathy is just sleeping, right?’

She had waited for so long, never expecting that they would finally reunite in this manner.

Chada reached out her hand, wanting to stroke Cathy’s face one last time. But she suddenly noticed her hand was completely covered in blood. As if terrified of dirtying Cathy’s face, her hand trembled for a few moments before she settled for merely touching the edge of the box.

The long-awaited embrace could never be given. Chada’s hand slowly went limp and fell to her side.

“Chada!!” Du Yu cried out in alarm, but Chada no longer showed any reaction.

The numerous immortals stood to the side. Although they had long discarded their mortal desires and emotions to ascend to immortality, at this moment, tears streamed down their faces as they softly wept.

“Bastard! Son of a bitch! Animal! Monster!” Du Yu cursed over and over, hanging his head as tears spilled uncontrollably from his eyes.

The immortals wanted to comfort him but didn’t know what to say. Shiranui Asuka’s eyes were already red from crying as she tried her best to muffle her sobs.

Right then, two figures—one dressed in black, the other in white—slowly walked forward. They both wore expressions of deep confusion, staring at the weeping immortals in bewilderment.

“The two of us don’t quite understand…” Bai Wuchang frowned and spoke slowly. “What exactly are you all crying about?”

Du Yu snapped back angrily, “What are we crying about?! Seventh Master… someone died!”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he froze.

‘Huh?’

‘Someone died?’
