The Northern Emperor narrowed his eyes, carefully sizing up the man in front of him. After a long pause, he finally asked, “Du Yu, how confident are you in killing that Buddha?”
“One in ten… no, maybe one in a hundred,” Du Yu replied.
“One in a hundred…” The Northern Emperor furrowed his brows. “Are you joking with me?”
Du Yu let out a cold laugh. “Why would I joke around with you? Do you really think that thing looks easy to kill?”
He pointed a finger at the gigantic, several-hundred-meter-tall Buddha looming behind them.
The Northern Emperor’s expression grew heavy. “Then what do you plan to do?”
“Didn’t I just tell you?” Du Yu looked toward the several Heavenly Venerables standing not too far away. “I’m going to discuss a strategy with them. Do you want to come along?”
The Northern Emperor pondered for a moment. He carefully examined Du Yu’s expression, then glanced at the distant Heavenly Venerables, feeling hesitant.
Right now, he only had two options.
Regardless, neither choice seemed particularly safe.
If the Northern Emperor wanted a one hundred percent guarantee of survival, he needed to find a much more secure path.
After a moment of thought, he spoke slowly, “Du Yu, I will accompany you to see the Heavenly Venerables and listen to your strategy. However, if I feel it is unsound, I will use a Fleeing Spell to escape immediately.”
“Alright!”
Du Yu nodded, turning around and walking forward with Medusa.
Medusa frowned. She glanced back at the Great Emperor of Beiyin Fengdu, then asked Du Yu, “This man seems quite annoying. Do you need me to kill him for you?”
“No need. He’ll die sooner or later anyway,” Du Yu answered with a smile.
It didn’t take long for the three of them to arrive before the group of Heavenly Venerables.
The Heavenly Venerables looked as though they had just launched a wave of attacks and were currently standing in place to regulate their breathing.
“Big Cat!”
Du Yu called out to the Western Queen Mother in the distance.
Hearing Du Yu’s voice, the Western Queen Mother turned her head, a complex expression on her face.
“You brat, do you have a death wish? Hurry up and find a place to hide. It’s too dangerous here.”
“Hide?” Du Yu chuckled and stepped forward. “Where else in the entire Underworld do you think I can hide?”
“You still shouldn’t have come here.” The Western Queen Mother cast a wary glance at the Great Buddha before them. “The situation seems much worse than I imagined.”
“Oh?” Du Yu raised an eyebrow. “What is the situation now?”
The Western Queen Mother let out a soft sigh and explained, “It’s exactly because the situation is unclear that I find it so troublesome. From the very beginning, Gouchen, Dangmo, the Heavenly Venerable of the Dao and its Virtue, the Heavenly Venerable of Primordial Beginning, the Heavenly Venerable of Spiritual Treasure, and I have been launching relentless attacks against this Buddha. Yet, we have no idea what it’s made of—no spell has been able to harm it in the slightest.”
“Oh?” Du Yu paused. “Is it really that tough?”
“But this Buddha is quite strange. It hasn’t moved an inch since the beginning,” the Western Queen Mother added. “It doesn’t attack or react at all. It’s just like a statue.”
Just as she finished speaking, countless flying blades formed from dust and earth shot toward the Buddha from a distance. Like rain striking an iron plate, they produced a massive, booming roar, but every single blade shattered upon impact.
Houtu slowly descended, scratching her head. “How bizarre. This Old Lady thought I could catch him off guard, but why isn’t there any reaction?”
Seeing Houtu arrive, the Western Queen Mother felt something was amiss and immediately asked, “Houtu, didn’t I tell you to protect the younger generation? Why are you here?”
“Protecting those kids doesn’t require this Old Lady at all.” Houtu pulled a massive broadsword out of thin air and rested it on her shoulder. “This Old Lady sent the Monsters and Demons to help them. Not many monks can actually defeat those three.”
Hearing this, Supreme Lord Laozi pondered for a moment before speaking up, “This is truly strange… Queen Mother, is this battle truly the one you claimed would destroy the entire Immortal Realm? Although there have certainly been casualties, it falls far short of the word ‘destruction’.”
“I…” The Western Queen Mother also wore a hesitant expression as she turned to look at Du Yu. “You brat, explain it for me.”
Du Yu thought for a brief moment before speaking. “Heavenly Venerables, you have been engaged in a fierce battle here, so you might not be aware of the situation across the rest of the Battlefield… There is something wrong with the scriptures this Buddha is chanting. Quite a few Huaxia Immortal Beings have already defected.”
“Oh?”
The several Heavenly Venerables all furrowed their brows at this news.
Causing people to turn coat relying solely on spoken scriptures sounded like an incredibly thorny issue.
Du Yu continued, “If we don’t come up with a countermeasure quickly, losing this war will only be a matter of time.”
The Western Queen Mother looked at Du Yu with a heavy expression and asked, “Brat, are you saying there’s a possibility we might lose this battle?”
“That’s right.” Du Yu nodded. “If even one of you Heavenly Venerables were to defect, I’m sure it would result in a bitter struggle.”
Everyone felt that Du Yu’s words made sense. Even though the Heavenly Venerables could still maintain their sense of self right now, no one could say for sure who might be the next to turn coat.
But what exactly should they do now?
“Brat, you always have a lot of clever ideas. Hurry up and figure out how we can shatter this Buddha.”
‘Shatter the Buddha…?’
Hearing the Western Queen Mother’s words, Du Yu raised his head, gazing at the Buddha that pierced the clouds.
Looking at this Buddha from such a close distance made Du Yu feel a wave of disorientation.
The last time looking up had filled him with this much despair was when he saw ten suns hanging in the sky.
These two moments had one thing in common.
That was Du Yu’s absolute uncertainty about whether he could win.
“Big Cat, do you think… it could be that our firepower isn’t enough?” Du Yu murmured, sounding almost as if he were talking to himself.
“Not enough firepower?” The Western Queen Mother furrowed her brows. “Are you stupid? All seven of us Heavenly Venerables are right here. How much more firepower could you possibly need?”
Du Yu scratched his head and said, “Now that’s not fair, Big Cat. You ask me for ideas and then call me stupid. No matter how strong you are, there are still only seven of you.”
“Everyone else is currently caught up in the melee and can’t pull themselves away. Even if it truly is a lack of firepower as you suggest, what good solution is there?” the Western Queen Mother retorted.
“Hey, didn’t I bring reinforcements?”
Just as Du Yu was about to push Medusa and the Northern Emperor forward, he heard the roaring sound of wind in the distance.
Ten thousand demons came speeding over on motorcycles, shaking off the black monks along the way and heading straight for the Buddha.
The leader, Shuten Doji, spotted Du Yu immediately and yelled with a laugh, “Hey! Brother!”
Du Yu was taken aback and looked toward the other side.
Zhi Er, whom he had met once in the Inner Yellow Springs, was rushing over with thousands of thugs.
Looking up again, ten eccentric figures carrying giant Scissors on their backs flew across the sky.
At the same moment, more than twenty female Immortal Beings from the Greek Domain appeared riding on white clouds. Each one was covered in scars, as if they had been fighting alongside Medusa for a very long time.
Seeing the scene unfold before them, the several Heavenly Venerables couldn’t help but look astonished.
The Western Queen Mother slowly muttered, “Brat, you really brought quite a lot of helpers with you…”
Du Yu gave an awkward smile. “If I said this was a coincidence, would you believe me?”
