The Broken Halo Chapter 78

Chapter 78: Clap

“WHAT DID YOU DO?!” Jath roared at Simon the moment he registered what had just happened.

Orianna, Bria, and Mona all screamed and stumbled backward in fear.

“What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck?” Orianna just kept on mumbling in fear as she stared at Sog’s corpse.

“WHY DID YOU KILL HIM?! HE DIDN’T FAIL!” Bria screamed with fear and hatred in her eyes as she stared at Simon.

Simon did not answer and just kept on staring at his sword which was slowly melting because of the Purple Orchid Demon’s poisonous and acidic blood.

He had been wary of Sog for several reasons, and one of them was Sog’s blood.

If he had used his hands and claws to kill Sog, he would have been poisoned and his hands or claws would have melted.

Also, Sog’s body was poisonous, and any slight contact can mean having to deal with a deadly poison which could and would most likely kill him.

Simon could have used his sword to kill Sog a long time ago, but doing that would melt his sword because of Sog’s blood.

He wanted to avoid that since it meant he’d have to look for another sword. But after thinking about it and seeing how troublesome the Purple Orchid was, he decided to kill him even if it meant destroying his sword.

He was just an annoying fellow to kill.

He looked at Jath, Bria, Orianna, and Mona who were staring at him with anger, fear, and hatred.

His lips curled into an innocent and charming smile.

“I didn’t lie to you. He failed… Actually, all of you failed, but I decided to kill one of you instead of all of you since I have a caring heart.”

Jath’s eyes spewed out flames of fury and hatred.

“CARING HEART MY SHIT! HOW DID ALL OF US FAIL?! YOU TOLD US TO TAKE A STEP FORWARD AND WE DID!”

Simon smiled at the silver wolf whose golden eyes were turning crimson and whose bloodlust was visible to all to see.

He was furious, but his instincts were seriously warning him to not attack Simon, that if he did, he’d die.

Despite Jath’s bloodlust and killing intent, Simon’s smile remained on his face.

“I told you guys that you must only do what Simon says, and when I told you guys to take a step forward, I never said Simon says you should take a step forward.”

“But you’re Simon!” Orianna shouted, and Simon nodded with the same smile.

“Correct, but like I said, you guys didn’t do what Simon says. Simon did not tell you to move, so why did you move?”

Jath, Orianna, Bria, and Mona instantly understood what Simon meant, and they could not help but gnash their teeth in anger.

“So, basically, if you don’t start a sentence with Simon says, then we’re not to do whatever you say?” Mona asked with a trembling voice, and Simon snapped his fingers at her.

“Correct.”

“Then… why didn’t you tell us this before? And why didn’t you tell us that if we fail once, we die?” Jath asked with visible anger in his tone and eyes.

Simon shrugged and smiled.

“Where is the fun in that?” He chuckled.

Jath’s eyes widened, and every single thought in his mind was roaring to kill Simon, but his instincts were telling him otherwise.

Simon would kill him, and he knew it.

’To kill an Orchid Demon, one has to cut off the orchid on their head, but doing so would spew out a poisonous mist.’

’Not many people would know how to kill an Orchid Demon without losing their lives, but he did. The moment he cut Sog in two, he distanced himself from Sog while coating his body in that strange silver demonic energy of his.’

’He’s very experienced. It’s like I’m standing before one of my father’s elite guards.’

’Who the fuck is he?!’

This was another reason why Jath did not attack Simon.

He was not only wary of Simon’s strength, he was also wary of Simon’s knowledge and experience.

’I’ll calm down for now. The game is simple, it’s just this bastard that’s toying with us.’

Jath closed his eyes and forced himself to calm down. He exhaled and inhaled deeply, then he looked at Simon with a cold expression.

“You said once we do seven things Simon says, you’ll let us go. We’ve already done three, so it’s only four left.”

Simon nodded with an innocent smile.

“Of course. I know. So… are you guys ready to continue?”

Jath looked at Orianna, Bria, and Mona. They all looked back at him, and he nodded at them with a determined expression.

’We’re all leaving here. We’re all going to survive.’Jath thought with fire burning in his eyes.

Simon tilted his head and smiled. “Hmm

Alright then… Jump up.”

None of them moved.

“Nod your heads.”

Simon’s eyes shone. “Wow. You guys are really good at this now.”

None of them said anything and just stared at Simon with cold and determined expressions.

Simon chuckled. “Simon says clap your hands.”

Clap

Clap

“Huh?”

Jath, Bria, and Mona instantly clapped, but the moment they heard Orianna’s voice, their expressions drastically changed.

Their heads snapped in Orianna’s direction.

“Orianna!”

Jath shouted with a horrified expression as he and the others all realized a horrifying fact.

Orianna only had a single arm. Simon had cut off her right arm.

She could not clap.

Jath quickly looked at Simon who was smiling while looking at the horrified Orianna.

“Wait. You bastard! You cut off her arm! How do you expect her to clap when you cut off her arm?!”

Simon shrugged with a light smile. “How do you expect me to know? I told you guys that I’ll give you something simple to do. Is clapping not something simple?”

Jath gritted his teeth in fury.

He was furious at the fact that Simon was right in a sick and twisted way.

But he was more furious at himself for being tricked twice.

Simon took a step forward, and Jath screamed.

“Stop! Give us something else to do! Be fair! Isn’t a game meant to be fair?!”

Simon paused, then he laughed loudly while covering his eyes.

“A fair game? How amusing… And how foolish.”

Simon’s smile slowly disappeared as he stared at Jath.

“No game is fair boy. Besides, don’t hate me… Hate the game.”

“NOOOOOOO!!!! I DON’T WANT TO DIE! I DON’T WANT TO DIE!”

Simon disappeared and quietly appeared in front of Orianna who screamed.

Without wasting a single second, he coated his sword with his demonic energy and indifferently sliced off Orianna’s head.

Despite the fact that his sword was getting blunt and uneven with every passing second, he was able to sharpen it with his demonic energy, effectively cutting off Orianna’s head.

And…

Thud

Thud

Thud

Orianna’s head flew and tumbled a few times before coming to a stop.

Then her body fell to the ground with a loudthud.

Everywhere became silent.

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
