The Broken Halo Chapter 79

Chapter 79: A True Demon

For a moment, it seemed like the entire Blackwind Forest went silent as Orianna’s headless body fell to the ground.

Jath, Bria, and Mona stared at the head of their companion.

Her lifeless gaze which still had the dread and unwillingness to die could still be seen, and the minds of the trio went blank for a moment.

Jath, Orianna, Bria, Sog, Mona, and Trog- the Two Horned Demon… were not close friends or anything of sort.

They met one another while waiting for the trials of the clan to start, and they all just seemed to fit together perfectly.

They all had noble bloodlines, and their families were not exactly weak.

They all had their personal reasons for wanting to join the Shadowgrave Clan, but a bond was formed between them after spending more than a week together.

Jath had been the one to gather all of them together, to share what they knew of the previous Shadowgrave’s trials and if they had heard any rumors regarding this year’s trial.

Jath suggested they form a group because he heard a rumor that one of the trials would be a group battle.

It was why he had formed this group of six.

But to see, not one, not two, but three of them fall at the hands of a teenager who he had deemed inferior to him gave him a feeling he could not even begin to describe.

His blood which he had calmed down a few minutes ago boiled.

His heartbeat increased and became much louder.

His body began trembling in fury.

And his breathing became loud, rough, and uneven.

“I’LL KILL-“

Grab!

A hand suddenly held his throat just as he was about to speak, and his eyes widened in shock and disbelief when he saw Simon in front of him.

“Hey there. You see, we’ve made quite a lot of noise recently, but it has been okay because we can also hear the screams of other candidates.”

“My killing intent has been deterring the beasts from approaching us, but if you shout and roar like that, I’m pretty sure a powerful beast, a curious candidate or candidates, or a member of the clan would come to this place.”

“And I don’t want that. So, please keep quiet for me.”

Clench

Jath groaned as Simon tightened his grip around his throat.

He growled with fury and madness in his eyes, then his nails on his left hand became claws.

He swung his left hand, hoping to slice Simon’s face in two. Especially the damned smile he had on his face.

However, Simon held his hand with his free hand.

Jath already expected this, so he was not surprised.

His right hand moved, and his eyes flashed with killing intent as he could see how his claws would rip Simon’s head in five.

Neither of his hands were free, and his sword was on the floor.

He could not use his legs to block his claws.

Which meant that the only way Simon could stop him was to release him.

Or so he thought.

Simon’s smile widened, and his teeth became longer and sharper.

Then he did something Jath never expected.

His head snapped toward Jath’s right arm at an extremely fast speed, and his mouth opened wide.

Four fangs shot out of his mouth, and with the fangs emitting a silver light… he bit Jath’s right arm, tore into it, and tore half of his arm away with a violent yank.

“Hmmm!!! Hmmm!!!!”

Jath tried to scream in pain while staring at his missing arm, but he could not.

Simon’s grip on his throat was getting stronger with every passing minute, and Jath suddenly realized a terrifying fact.

Something he hadn’t noticed because of his anger.

Simon was no longer a Minor Lesser Demon. He was now a Prime Lesser Demon.

Due to the battle, his intense emotions and unstable state of mind, and his body which could passively absorb the demonic energy in the air, Simon’s chaos flame had been growing at a fast rate, and he was now a Prime Lesser Demon.

And it was still growing, which meant Simon was getting stronger with every passing minute.

’What have I done? Who have I messed with? He’s… he’s… he’s a true demon. He’s the damned demon.’

Tears poured out of Jath’s eyes as he stared at Simon whose sky blue eyes glowed with a silver light.

Simon tilted his head and smiled at him.

“Simon says… say a word.”

Jath’s eyes widened, and he shook his head and tried to say anything for fear of his life.

But he couldn’t.

Simon held his neck tightly, preventing him from saying anything.

If not for his Silver Wolf bloodline which gave home regenerative abilities, he would have died a long time ago due to lack of oxygen.

Simon chuckled softly but with madness in his eyes.

“You fail.”

To Jath’s horror, Simon sank his four fangs inside his neck and tore out his neck.

Copious quantity of blood poured out of Jath’s neck, and the Silver Wolf shook like a fish that was placed on land.

Thud

Simon dropped him while savoring the taste of the Silver Wolf’s blood.

He looked at the black sky with a satisfied smile, then he shifted his gaze to Jath who was now a corpse.

Snap

The sound of a twig snapping in two drifted into Simon’s ears, and he quickly looked to the source.

When he saw Bria trying to run, his lips curled into a light smile.

He picked up his sword, coated it with his silver demonic energy, then he threw it with all his strength.

A scream of death tore through the forest, and Bria fell to the ground and breathed her last as a sword impaled her heart from behind.

“I didn’t miss.”

Simon smiled then he looked at Mona who was trembling on her knees and with wide tearful eyes.

“One left.” He said and approached her with an innocent smile.

‘How cliché. I’ve read countless novels where the Hero is betrayed by their companions… but was I wrong to trust those who fought beside me for nearly six decades?’ ----- Betrayal. A word many live in fear of. A word some never expect… until it happens. A word that completely shatters one’s view of life. Just like any other heroic tale, Simon was the Hero of Earth, the one who defeated the Demon King and was about to end the war between races with his companions. Yet, in the end, he was betrayed by his own companions for reasons he never understood. Instead of finding death, Simon found rebirth. To his horror, he reincarnated as the very race he had devoted his entire life to exterminating… a race he despised, feared, and was disgusted by. Reborn as a demon infant within one of the most impoverished demon tribes, Simon found himself at the very bottom of a world he once sought to destroy. Fortunately, he was not entirely abandoned. His unique Seven Star Blessing, bestowed by his patron God, followed him through reincarnation. Armed with this Blessing and the Demonic Magic of his new race, Simon now harbors an ambition greater than ever before… to rise higher than he ever did as the Hero of Earth. To become a God. But the path forward is far from simple. Betrayals from those he would never expect. Endless trials and tribulations. And the lingering question of identity… Should he cling to his past as a human hero, or embrace his nature as a demon to survive? Can Simon abandon his hatred and live among demons? Will he erase his past entirely and fully embrace his demonic nature? Will his thirst for revenge drag him deeper into darkness… Or will he rise above it? In the end… Will he be devoured… or will he devour all?
